One of the easiest homemade sauces for pasta, bolognese is the meat sauce of the Bologna region of Italy.

Ingredients
  • Olive oil to saute meats.
  • 1 pound sausage, uncased
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 (26 ounce) can tomato puree
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons dried basil
  • 2 tablespoons dried parsley
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • Bay leaf
  • salt to taste

Directions
  1. Heat olive oil in Dutch Oven until hot.
  2. Add sausage meat to pot and cook, stirring and breaking up as you go.
  3. When sausage is about halfway cooked, add the ground beef to the pot.
  4. Cook and stir the two meats together until they are cooked through.
  5. Add tomato puree to Dutch oven.
  6. Stir into the meats well.
  7. Add the bay leaf.
  8. Add the basil, oregano and parsley to the pot.
  9. Mix well.
  10. Add salt to taste.
  11. Allow to simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
