Deeny's Meatloaf
Combine
1 lb hamburger
1 lb bulk breakfast sausage
1 slice stale bread torn into crumbs
1 stalk celery chopped very fine
1 med to large onion chopped very fine
1 egg
1 tsp salt
[optional] 1 tsp herbs de provence or Italian seasoning.
Shape into two loaves, place in glass baking dish.
Important: Pour pint jar of spaghetti sauce over all. Rinse out jar with about 1/4 cup water and pour in pan.
Bake 1 hour at 350°F. Allow to cool 10-15 minutes, slice and serve with rice or potatoes and a green vegetable.
Even better the next day in meatloaf sandwiches. But Deeny never served it that way.

Add some Cabernet to this...a splish and a splash. It REALLY does make the meat more moist and you can enjoy the extra!

Sounds great, Zena! The dry onion soup is a nice touch. Perhaps a handful of chopped parsley would be good?? I think I'll put this one on my list!

If I have dry onion soup mix in my pantry, THIS is tonight's dinner. I had forgotten all about Abby's recipe until a male friend from Chicago told me this has been a favorite for decades.
