How to make it

  • Place milk, water, onion and seasoning in a saucepan.
  • Boil for 10 minutes
  • Add Herring (cut into small pieces)
  • Cook until herring is tender

    I tried this recipe at a dinner party to have something different.
    Total DISASTER! Not one guest approved. I used smoked dried salted herrings that had been soaked. I sounds like it has potential but I'm obviously doing some thing wrong. Any Ideas??

    I'll use pilchard for this but where are most folks going to get raw herring? You don't say raw but I would think they are. Can you folks go to the local market and pick up a packet of frozen Herring? Bloody awesome. I am going to like this soup. RJ

    I love herring in cream sauce, so this soup sounds delish to me! Never saw it in Russia as I was growing up, though.
