Ingredients

How to make it

  • Sauté beef, onion, celery and garlic in a large pan until well done then strain off fat.
  • Boil potatoes until fork tender about 20 minutes then drain and mash with butter.
  • Blanch carrots and add to beef mixture.
  • Make a gravy with beef base and water then whisk in enough flour to thicken.
  • When gravy comes to a boil add beef and carrot mixture then reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes.
  • Spoon meat mixture into a casserole dish then spoon potatoes on top.
  • Bake 20 minutes at 350 then top with cheese and let sit until cheese melts about 5 minutes.

    just real quick.. serves 4 with 2 lbs potatoes and 2 lbs ground beef? I have to cook a meal for 7.. not sure if I need to double it or not ;)

    This sounds like a good one! I've been thinking of making a Shepards Pie for a long time! When I do make it, this is the one I'll try!

    So we used to buy the little shepards pie seasoning packets and like 2 yrs ago they stopped making them, or I just lost my head and can't find them...but anyway...I have been trying to find one that taste similar and this one is by far the best! Soooo good! I did only do half the meat and added corn and peas in it's place. The gravy you make for this is awesome and has great flavor! Added my pic. as well! Thanks Chefmeow!

    Not a dumb question. It is sold in the bouillon section or soup section of the grocery store. You can substitute beef bouillon granules if you want. Enjoy

    dumb question meow but I never made this. Didn't ever look appealing to me. Bu than I was watching a rerun of Kitchen Nightmares on hulu and Chef Rasmey had made one, it peaked my interest to make one.

    My question is what is this? 2-1/2 tablespoons beef base
