Grandmas Buttercream Frosting

This is my Grandma's recipe for buttercream frosting. It is the frosting I use on all of my decorated cakes, because it pipes well and tastes great!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter shopping list
- 1/2 cup shortening shopping list
- 6 cups powdered sugar shopping list
- 1/4 cup water shopping list
- 4 tsp. meringue powder (you can use two egg whites instead of the water and meringue powder if you wish!) shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. salt shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tarter shopping list
- 2 tsp. vanilla shopping list
- 1/4 cup milk shopping list
How to make it
- In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter and shortening until light and fluffy.
- Gradually beat in powdered sugar.
- In a small bowl, stir together meringue powder and water.
- Beat into frosting.
- Add remaining ingredients; beat until light and fluffy.
- If frosting is too thick, add more milk until desired consistency is achieved.
