How to make it

  • Heat oven to 375 degrees F when ready to bake.
  • Melt the butter in a heavy-bottom medium saucepan over low heat.
  • Sift together the flour, salt and baking soda and set aside.
  • Pour the melted butter in the electric mixer's work bowl.
  • Add the white sugar and brown sugar.
  • Cream the butter and sugars on medium speed.
  • Add the egg, yolk, milk and vanilla and/or almond extracts and mixt until well combined.
  • Slowly incorporate the flour mixture until thoroughly combined.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Chill the dough, then scoop onto parchment-lined (or use a silpat) baking sheets, 6 cookies per sheet.
  • Bake for 14 minutes or until golden brown, checking the cookies after 5 minutes.
  • Rotate the baking sheet for even browning.
  • Cool completely and store in an airtight container.

    This is an excellent recipe! I just made these and I can't stop thinking about them. I added a teaspoon of cinnamon but, I imagine some shredded coconut with a little coconut extract would be glorious. Thanks for sharing!

    Oh my you know I can't pass a cookie up. This recipe sounds so good. I have never made cookies with bread flour. They look super fat in the photo..I must give these a try asap!

    I love watching Alton Brown's show - and I love his recipes. I'm sure this one is no exception. The bread flour is interesting...another cookie I "have to" make (I like to twist my own arm). I will try them with the toasted pecan suggestion, as that's the nut I usually have around. Thanks, conner!
