How to make it

  • Trim sprouts and cut x in base of each.
  • In large pan of boiling water cook sprouts 10 minutes.
  • Drain and chill under cold water and press out excess water with towel.
  • Cut in half and place in shallow greased casserole dish.
  • Melt butter in saucepan over medium heat and cook onions stirring often for 10 minutes.
  • Stir in flour and cook stirring constantly 1 minute.
  • Add milk and cook stirring 5 minutes or until thickened.
  • Remove from heat and stir in half of the cheese, nutmeg, salt and pepper.
  • Pour over sprouts then cover and bake at 375 for 40 minutes.
  • Sprinkle with remaining cheese and broil uncovered for 2 minutes.
