Chicken That Cant Decide If Its In Chinese Or Barbeque Sauce Recipe

I've been making this for such a long time, you'd think I'd have a name for it.

Ingredients
  • 8 chicken thighs, bone in
  • 2 tbls. olive oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup apple juice
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbls. cider vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp. crushed red pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
  • 2 tbls. cornstarch
  • 2 tbls. very cold water

Directions
  1. Heat oil in skillet
  2. Brown chicken on both sides
  3. Drain oil and return chicken to skillet
  4. In mixing bowl, combine water, brown sugar, soy sauce, apple juice, ketchup, vinegar, red pepper and ginger
  5. Pour over chicken
  6. Bring to boil
  7. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 20 minutes or so
  8. Take chicken out and keep warm
  9. In bowl, combine cornstarch and water until smooth
  10. Stir into skillet with cooking liquid
  11. Bring to boil and cook and stir until well combined and thickened
  12. Spoon over chicken
