How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  • Stir together dry ingredients in a medium bowl.
  • Cut in the shortening until blended thoroughly.
  • Stir in buttermilk and 2 T. of the melted margarine until well blended.
  • On a lightly floured surface, knead dough for 1 minute, or until smooth and elastic.
  • Roll out dough to 1/2" - 3/4" thickness; cut with a floured biscuit cutter; place biscuits on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden.
  • Brush hot biscuits with remaining melted margarine.

    Do you ever find butter flavored shortening too soft for the job. It seems that since they changed the formula for Crisco, it doesn't work as well in recipes. I think I'll try this with butter instead. THX for posting. :)
