How to make it

  • Peel and cut turnip into 2 inch cubes.Cook in salt water just covered until tender.Drain reserve liquid.Mash turnip until smooth.Add butter,egg,milk,sugar and some of liquid to make moist mixture.Pour into greased loaf pan bake at 325 for 1 hr.. Makes 6 servings

    I did make this and have added a photo. I'm not sure how big your turnip was but mine cut up into 3 cups of turnip cubes. Following your instructions with regard to the milk I found it to be way way way too much liquid. Rather than toss the whole thing out I added 5tbsp of coconut flour to absorb the milk. The dust on top is a bit of nutmeg.

    The flavor is very light and gently sweet. The consistancy is similar to that of flan. If I were doing this again, I would use 6 cups of turnips for that much liquid OR cut the liquid in half.

    I got this perfect beautiful fresh turnip from Parksdale Farms in Plant City yesterday. They don't last very long but I'm the only one at home who enjoys them. I'm going to try this out it looks like it will be perfect for me to keep for a few days of side dishes. I'll let you know how it turns out.
