diva, I love both of those herbs, but they're a bit ticky.....(I can't keep them alive). I have a beautiful Bay laurel that is a topiary. I have it in a large pot on my back porch. When I'm making soup, roast, chicken.....I just clip off a few small branches, wash them off and add them to my recipe. It's a hardy plant and has new leaves popping out everywhere.

I also like chive. I grow it in an old McCoy pot. It looks like grass. I snip off the tops and add them to everything.

I really love basil and thymec but right now I have a huge rosemary plant. We keep clipping off branches for cooking, and also for tea, and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger!

With so many good herbs, I just can't say I have one favorite.
I have good garlic and onion chives. I enjoy my parsley, as well as cilantro. I also like my basils. I also have enjoyed my volunteer dill. I just let it grow and it reseeds itself each year. As well as provide us with dill weed and seeds, it serves as a place for monarch caterpillars to eat. I share, making sure they are safe and protected.
I'm going to make a concerted effort to grow and use many more herbs this year and make sure I get them dried and put away for winter use.

I'm even trying my hand at a stevia plant this year.
I use pineapple sage as a flower in the fall garden but I think I will use the crushed fresh leaves in iced tea this summer. It just smells so pleasant when it's brushed! Love it!

speaking of rosemary, walmart and even my local stop-n-shop are selling very nice and healthy super large rosemary plants for those (like me) who seem not to be able to over winter them. for $15 per plant... I have a pretty good green thumb except for gardenias (have no clue as to why) since I can take care of other picky plants like violets, crotons, ferns.. hmmm

This year I'm having the best luck w/ my lemon basil plant. It is several feet tall now. I took some advice from someone in this group and planted it in a big pot w/ cilantro and a marigold. The bugs haven't touched it yet. My dill plant is reseeding itself, so I have some little ones popping up. I had to prop it up against the fence. It is over 6 feet tall!

I am having great luck w/ my peach sage, lemon balm, and chocolate and orange mints. I have these growing like crazy around a big oak tree in my backyard. I saw that thepiggs is having luck w/ pineapple sage. I planted one and my husband thought it was a weed and wacked it. I planted another one, but it is not growing fast at all.

I love to grow basil, chives, rosemary, and mint. All of these are growing great right now! I'm making lots of pesto. Love to drizzle it on fresh sliced tomatoes. In the fall I will plant cilantro.....too hot now.
