The "Add to Group" button has dissappeared

I know this button was there on day one of the roll out and functioned correctly. I am no longer able to see it on any recipe. If its a browser issue I'm using FireFox 3.6

It's not gone, Otterpond, they just have it set that now only the owner of a recipe can add it to a group...and, only to a group they belong to.

Some of us are sorry to see this change, but apparently others had abuse issues with it?? I'm not sure what happened, as I enjoyed my recipes being added to various group, but I don't want to belong to all of them. :)

As mentioned previously, only recipe owners (who are also group members) can add their recipes to a group. Let me give you an example of why this is the case.

I'm a malicious user, who is upset at you. I create a new group called "These recipes are crap", and proceed to add each and every one of your recipes to that group. Now on every one of your recipe pages there is a message that reads: "This recipe is in These recipes are Crap group".

Sure we could add the ability for a recipe owner to go delete their recipes from groups like this, but that puts entirely too much burden on the uploaders. The process of uploading a recipe should be quick, easy, and a one-off event, not something that involves babysitting a page for malicious activity.

Furthermore, we believe that only allowing member uploads leads to a better group with more involved members. Understandably there are "good finds" that you want to share, there are other avenues in place to do this.

Exactly. I think you are dead on with that Kristopher! I don't want to spend my time deleting from groups I choose not to be in. On the other hand, in Our Daily Dinner we did post recipes we were making that day, whether they were ours or not. Now, I just copy and paste the link into my discussion in the group, and they can follow it from there if they want.

I see a possible compromise here. Perhaps you could have an option “suggest a group” that way the owner of the recipe can approve or reject groups they want their recipes to belong. For example, suppose I see a recipe for Elk Heart Stew and think it should be added to the Hunter’s Favorites group that I belong to. I’d like to be able to suggest that to the owner of the recipe. There are so many groups here (many of them no longer active or have missing owners) and by seeing them attached to a recipe is a good way of me know just what groups are out there.
Speaking of groups, I hope you find time someday to fix my log in problem so I can get back and manage my own group. TIA

Joyce, maybe leave a comment on the recipe suggesting the group...? I used to find groups the same way. : )

I guess that would be suggesting it in a round about way Sparow. but I'd still like to just click a group name that I am a member of to make the suggestion.
