    Recipeby DetroitTokyo: Apple Cider Chicken

Sweet but not too sweet, savory and a little heat on the end. Couldn't find my red pepper flakes so I used cayenne. Didn't adjust for the difference in flakes to powder. So my recipe had a little more than a little heat on the end.
SHUT UP KENI. I hear you over in the corner snickiering!
Recipe worked out exactly to spec. Made some baked home fries to go with.
I don't cook with fennel often at all. Had forgotten I put the spice in the mix. On sampling the dish I kept on tasting an unfamiliar flavor. What is that!? What is that!? Liver and onions come to mind. AAHHH! The fennel.

That looks like it would be a lovely sauce. I don't think I've ever seen fennel seeds! Of course, I've never looked for them either. :)

Fennel's fine. I just forgot it was in there and was trying to figure what the taste was. The first couple of bites made my memory's tongue say it was liver. I like liver too.
Fennel has a licorice aroma and I don't think it is normally paired with onion or apple juice. It just threw me for a minute.

Oh okay just didn't know if you were associating it with something you hated lol! I like fennel and fennel seed but it is something many people dislike too...like cilantro!

I recently read about the health benefits of fennel and fennel seeds, mostly having to do with digestion so I've been trying to incorporate it into more dishes.

Thanks so much for trying it out P7O!

Thanks on the picture compliment, Marie!

Frankieanne, they should be readily available in the spice section of your local grocery.
