Baked Beans

    Baked Beans

I didn't like this recipe. Too much salt. It seems like it wanted to be bbq beans instead of baked beans.

It's going to take me quite a while to eat these beans as left-overs.

It is not Tuilelaith's recipe but one transcribed.

I won't make this again unless it is reworked.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that, Points. Have you tried putting a potato in the mix to "soak up" the saltiness?

Not just yet. The dish is fresh out of the oven and I had to get some vinegar out my system about this dish.

Went back and looked at the recipe searching for a reason the beans were too salty, hoping to find the possibility for a typo. But the list of ingredients clearly states: 3 teaspoons salt.

Two pounds of beans can be overcome by 3 teaspoons of salt. Interesting. I would think it took more than that.

Doesn't it have salt pork - does that make it salty?

Salt pork AND table salt. Followed the destructions faithfully.

LOL - destructions! Never had salt pork personally - somethin' about the name just turns me off.

Great Neptune! Added some dark brown sugar. Much more palatable now.

You could always add some mustard too, if you like that tangy taste . . .

Next bean recipe I look for will need brown sugar as an ingredient.

huh...ya know, for so many recipes, I'm a believer that their original intention has been destroyed by the need to just keep adding ingredients whether the recipe needs 'em or not...but, I've just discovered baked beans isn't one of those recipes... mine are posted, too, and while the amount of salt and pork aren't too far off, the addition of tomato sauce, and brown sugar seems to balance out, okay, for us, at least :)

Sorry it didn't work out for you, Points...lookin' forward to seeing what you pick, next :)
