Homade Peanut Butter Cups

Recipe by Cook123: Homade Peanut Butter Cups
This is a good Peanut Butter Cup. The closest I've made to Reese's so far. The addition of powdered sugar and ground graham crackers gave it the sweetness and grain in the peanut butter texture that was missing last time.
I find painting the individual cups too tedious for me and opted to make them in an 8x8 pan. Like the addition of shortening in the chocolate. Seemed to make the final product more cut worthy.
Had a small issue with the peanut butter adhering to to bottom layer of chocolate. Probably my technique in making them in a pan instead of individual cups. I pressed the peanut butter filling onto the chocolate when it was cool. Would probably get better adhesion if the peanut butter was just a little warm to melt the two boundary layers together. No problem with the top layer of chocolate holding onto the filling. I poured it still warm.
The chocolate layers are still a little thick (using my technique) but I didn't mind. Maybe painting with a brush is the way to go.
Overall sedates my choco-sweet tooth. Am pleased with the result as it is a better clone to Reese's than the last recipe I tried.
Instructions are a little nebulous in combining the filling. I think the ingredients are to be melted and stirred together over the stove top on a medium to low heat.

You're very ambitious, pso, and have more patience than I do to make a homemade peanut butter/chocolate candy. Painting paper cups would drive me nuts! Thank you for the (as usual) great report! I will be happy when you can use your camera again though. I miss your pictures.

Gosh, it really doesn't take that long. Waiting for the layers to firm up takes the longest.

I wonder whats in the real thing that gives it that graininess? Could it really be graham crackers..? Anyway, great looking recipe :)

It's peanuts. They're ground finer than what's normally found in chunky peanut butter. Although no copycat recipe I have researched called for the finely ground peanuts. Take a gander at the ingredient list on the real McCoy.
