Honey Orange Chicken

Recipe by Mrspaquet: Honey Orange Chicken
A good recipe. Lots of flavor. I did modify it a little.
In past citrus recipes I have found the citrus flavor to be weak. With that in mind I zested 4 oranges and squzed them. It was maybe a little over a cup of juice which I reduced down to 1/4 cup and added the zest back in. Then continued making the sauce.
Sauce does get thick after resting.
Didn't have any rice vinegar; used balsamic vinegar.
Couldn't just make sticky rice. Made some five spice rice with a couple sauteed bell peppers added.
Good honey orange flavor. Could have used more salt. Used 1tsp ea of the seasonings mixed up in the flour.
My chicken pieces were a little bigger than 1". Measuring stick was from the first to second knuckle. Fried them 3 minutes on a side. Did it in batches.

Just got an "I love you" from mother for the dish.
Only used a pinch of red pepper flakes. Couldn't taste any heat. So probably could have used more. I'm always careful about putting too much heat in a dish.

It looks like my kind of chicken, Points! Great yummy looking pic:) Did you use 2 Tbs of Sesame oil? I find Sesame oil quite powerful and use it sparingly. 1 Tsp would probably be more than enough for me! I like your idea of reducing the orange juice and adding zest to it to make the orange flavour more prominent as well. I am going to make this very soon. Thanks for the thumbs up:)

Wow 2 Tbs is a lot of sesame oil! I'm the same as you Joce, I ALWAYS cut back on sesame oil. I usually don't even measure it out, just do a little splash :)

I have this bookmarked as well. I wonder about the sesame oil myself. I find it way overpowering. You do have a nice tomato crop.

Used the full measure of sesame oil. I think the honey covers up most of the sesame flavor. It is a powerful oil.

thank you pointsevenout for trying my recipe. i usually make up my own recipes when i can't find one i like online. if my hubby really likes it then i add it here so i know how to make it again. i like your suggestion on the oj reduction. and i love sesame oil so i always over pour. if you're using a good quality honey the flavor will take over.
