    Hot Dog Goulash

As is this recipe is absolutely 5 stars in being good. What I am planning is on the next time I make this wonderful recipe is put some corn bread on top and bake in the oven.

This posting is a big coincidence! Yesterday I received a used book I ordered of Depression era recipes. I was flipping through it last night and found "Poorman's Meal" which calls for three large potatoes, an onion, four hot dogs and tomato sauce. I was thinking "gee, I've never heard of this!" and here you are making it. :) It looks good!

I bookmarked this when it hit the IMI group. Just trying to get up the courage to make it. Hotdogs are on my NO list. But if they are all beef, just maybe I can convince myself to make it.

Glad you liked this Nadine and that if worked out for you :) Points, Applegate brand has an all natural, no nitrate and grass fed hotdog, check out the ingredient list!

I buy it and some of their other products. Find it at my local grocery store and health food stores, BUT of course it's pricey...like all healthy stuff lol.

It is amazing how expensive hot dogs can be when you get the better ones. I have a feeling that when this recipe came about, hot dogs had stuff in them that you wouldn't want to think about!

It's sad that you have to pay and arm and a leg to get things that are made the "right" way.

Cornbread topping works well. Got a nice thick topping baking at 450F for 20min.
I used 3c water to cover everything and thought it would be too much water and make it to soupy. But after the 20 minutes simmer time for the potatoes to get done, there wasn't much water left at all. In hind sight I probably could have used 4c water.

Thanks for the link to the no-nitrate hot dogs, Mommyluvs2cook. Hot dogs are on my list of forbidden foods, but every once in a blue moon, I indulge in an all-beef kosher dog. I don't remember seeing Applegate around here, but then I wasn't looking for it, so will next time I go grocery shopping.
