Sour Burger And Meat Ball Steak

Okay, this recipe intrigued me. It just screamed "comfort food" but with a very slight Asiany twist. But, with the vague directions and amounts, I thought it was the perfect recipe to play with. So, this is what I did:

I mixed the ground meat(I used venison) with garlic, 1 small minced onion, salt and pepper, bread crumbs, the flour(this is new to me, here) and the egg but I also added a lil lemon grass and Chinese hot mustard. I then formed into balls and baked them.

For the sauce, I sauteed another onion with some garlic and a few hot pepper flakes. I added about 2T each of rice vinegar and oyster sauce and about 1T of my soy sauce blend(It's called Dale's...it's mostly soy sauce, just a few other things added) I also added about 1-1 1/2 cups of beef stock in place of any water. For the banana and tomato ketchup, I subbed Chili sauce(the Heinz kind, not the Thai kind, even though I was very tempted! ;-) and for that, I used about 1/2 cup. I didn't see where the "hot" came from, so, I also added several dashes of rooster sauce.

I cooked this down until it thickened up nicely and when the meatballs were done, I tossed 'em with the sauce and served 'em along side Creamy Wasabi And Chive Mashed Potatoes
The end result was delicious and JUST as I imagined when seeing the recipe....very American comfort foody, but with a slight twist. :-)

Are you going to rate it, Keni. ;-)
I've never heard of banana and tomato ketchup. Sounds like an interesting combination. Thanks for your idea of a substitution. It sounds like it would be a tasty meal! Quick as well. Glad you showed us!

Thanks, Frankie.... na, not gonna rate it. I wouldn't be rating the recipe. :-) Banana ketchup is a thing.... apparently it tastes very much like tomato ketchup. We don't eat, or even have ketchup in the house, but I had this bottle of chili sauce left over from football season.

The meal ended up really good in the long run. :-)

Keni, You did a lovely job and the using venison in this just adds to the attraction. Great pic too! Banana ketchup is quite hot at least any brand I have ever tried. Thanks for bringing this to our attention:-)

    Thanks, Good4u!

Is banana ketchup spicy? I didn't see that when I sneaked a lil peek online. Interesting....so, that's where the spicy is in his original dish. :-)

Those look awesome, Keni. Really good. Im REALLY hungry too...Hmmm What are those black seeds?

Oh and is lemon grass the same as sour grass. Or thats what I called it as a kid. It grew everywhere and we would pick it and chew on it. Really eye squinting sour. It would have little yellow flowers on top

And I have also never heard of banana ketchup. I like what you did with the recipe. I wish I had some of those........And those mashed potatoes sound great. I LOVE wasabi Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh : )

...everything looks better when you're REALLY hungry. ;-)

And, no, lemongrass is a tropical grass...looks a bit like bamboo... it's common in Asian cooking. It's hard for me to get, here, so I usually use the real stuff in the tube from the produce section. http://www.gourmetgarden.com/us/product/view/Lemon-Grass

The taters were tasty... as you know, I'm not as big of a fan of wasabi as you are, but I loved these. You can certainly add more for your liking...and, the stuff I used in that recipe is like this: http://www.amazon.com/Silver-Springs-Wasabi-Sauce-9-25-Ounce/dp/B001SBAS34
