Roast Beef And Sauteed Onion Panini

Made this tonight for a late dinner. This was such a good sandwich. Had a great crispness and the Gruyere cheese was awesome. I LOVE that stuff. I made a pretty big sandwich since the SF sourdough loaf was soo wide. Perfect size. Used 1/2 a large red onion and about a 1/3lb or roast beef. Loved it. Thanks for a great recipe, mommyluvs@cook : )

I want to make this, too. It looks so good! That's a nice looking sandwich. Do you have a panini press?

It looks excellent Mr. P. I have this bookmarked to try and I have a good feeling I won't be disappointed:-) Frankie, I am going to guess Mr. P. used a grill pan? A panini press would seal it down more.

Could be, G4U. I don't have a panini press but I have a George Foreman grill and I find I get good results with it.

Frankie, I really like my GF grill and find no need to have a panini press. I think I have tried pretty well everything on it and been quite pleased with the results:-)
It does do a bang up job on sandwiches though:-)

Thanks guys......I dont have a true panini press. This is what I have.

I dont get a chance to use it often because I would rather grill outdoors rain or shine. I mainly use it for single servings only such as this or a quick hamburger. I hope you both get a chance to try it. I will be making this again.

So glad you enjoyed! I actually made this sandwich again the next day cause I was craving it! What kind of cheese did you use? Thanks for adding the great pics!!

I wouldn't mind having a GF grill for easy inside grilling. I have a CI panini press that I love but not much good for anything but sandwiches.

I wanted to make one today, but I ate all the roast beef snacking. As for what type of cheese I used...........ummmm.............Gruyere :)

Ah...I swear I read that over again to make sure you didn't say anything about the cheese! Oh well...it's the wine!! J/K no wine here lol, but I can keep blaming it right?? All I know is gruyere is delicious!!

Hehe... That's OK. You made me re read it too to make sure it wasn't the wine on my end : ) Its a great sandwich. And I think the gruyere was the perfect addition................... I need to work on my will power to leave the next batch of roast beef for sandwiches only. I rarely buy deli meat because I snack on it till its gone and dont get to make many sandwiches : (

Thanks so much for the great review and picture! Yesterday after you told me you were gonna make this today, I ended up picking up some roast beef this morning to make it again too! But, my MIL called and asked me to go eat sushi with her...so sushi won :) Now, it's on for tomorrow! Never thought of it for breakfast...hhhmm, now that may be what I do...

Good looking sammie FA! I like to do something similar with turkey..but my husband LOVES horseradish with beef, so I'm going to bookmark this one for sure! I don't have a Foreman grill or Panini press..I use my Grandmother's very old, very heavy cast iron skillet when I make grilled sandwiches:D

It makes a good breakfast, ml2c. I like eating different things for breakfast other than breakfast things on the weekends. Breaks up the weekday monotony and rush.
If he likes horseradish with beef he will love this, Marie!

Been eyeing up this recipe ever since I saw it. What's not to love about roast beef, melty cheese, onions and horseradish right? Even managed to find some California sourdough at the Grocery store! Couldn't find gruyere in slice form (and was too lazy to buy a big chunk and cut it myself) so got Havarti instead which I love. Sauteed up a whole big pile of onions and added the beef slices at the end. Really enjoyed the horseradish mayo. Used my Panini grill. Thumbs up from all lucky lunch diners.

I made this in my waffle iron tonight. Instead of the horseradish/mayonnaise I used the new horseradish mustard I bought last weekend and it was fantastic with the other ingredients. I used smoked gouda and added a waffled picture to the recipe. :-)
