My Kids Favorite Pancakes

Hey, these were good!! The batter seemed thin at first, so I let it sit for 5-10 mins. and it thickened right up. Great flavor and perfect with butter and syrup :) Made a double batch so I could freeze them for quick breakfasts. This made more than the recipe called for, I'd say I got around 40 pancakes with the doubled recipe. Lol, I giggled at how big Darbar's serving size's are :) :) Anyway, kids loved them for sure and I loved that they were healthified a bit with the wheat flour.

Great photo, Mommyluvs2cook! That does seem like a lot of buttermilk to the amount of flour, almost equal parts. We love pancakes for a quick dinner and making them with half all-purpose and half whole wheat flour definitely makes them healthier. Have you tried the white whole wheat flour? I really like it, my hubby not so much. He doesn't mind eating healthier, a long as it doesn't "taste healthier".

Awesome photo! Great idea to let it set and thicken up. Doesn't sound like you will have to make pancakes anytime soon.

    Thank you Manella :)
It does seem like a lot of buttermilk Bakerme, I was so scared to pour that amount in lol, but it worked out really well! I have not tried the white whole wheat flour, but I have heard of it. Is it as healthy as regular wheat flour?
Lol Diz, well with the way my kids (and husband) eat pancaked, you'd be surprised at how fast these will go :)

    Yum, looks delish Michelle!
I want some for breakfast, right now!! Lol ;)
I love whole wheat flour pancakes! I hide the whole wheat taste with a bit of blueberry or mashed bananas inside the batter if I use all whole wheat flour or oat flour. You definitely need more liquid with whole wheat recipes as it is much drier than regular flour. Good tip on letting it sit for awhile!

Yes, Mommyluvs2cook, the white whole wheat flour is just as healthy as the regular whole wheat, but without the harsher wheat taste. I buy the King Arthur Flour brand at the grocery store, so you may be able to find it locally by you, too: http://www.kingarthurflour.com/flours/#signatureflours
Scroll down a bit to read about it. I tried their Tasting is Believing brownie recipe made entirely with white whole wheat flour and it was excellent! Even my husband liked it! I halved the recipe for just the two of us and it was still good:

He doesn't like the white whole wheat flour in pancakes, though, because he can taste the wheat and doesn't like the flavor.

Frankie, years ago I used a 50/50 mix of all-purpose flour and regular whole wheat in pancakes, and added cinnamon to hide some of the wheat flavor.

I love the banana idea Shona!! That definitely would hide some of that wheaty flavor. My kids don't see to mind it thought, but they love bananas anyway, so I'm gonna do that next time!
    Thanks FA :)
I will have to keep my eye out for that flour Bakerme, thanks for the info!
