Oven Fried Catfish That Tastes Like Real Fried
Well, I have never had catfish before so I can't say if this tastes like real fried or not. I wasn't sure I liked the taste. It was very different for me! I didn't want to rate it less than five stars as this was my first catfish attempt. I think it needed something to flavor it up a bit. It didn't taste "fishy" but it tasted kinda - something. Anyway - next time I would try cooking it a different way. Or maybe catfish just isn't my thing. Didn't add the picture to his recipe. I guess I won't link the recipe back here either - just in case!

Frankie, I LOVE you ,,,,,,,,,,,,A whole celery bunch. Too funny. I want some of that : ) I need something healthy, too. I kind of over did it on cookies the other day =D

Looking at the ingredients, I dont think this would have much flavor myself. I have never had catfish this way, so I wouldnt really know. Only fried in butter with pepper, garlic and lemon. I LOVE it that way. Same with tilapia and trout.

Im glad you tried catfish. Sorry it didnt turn out well for you. Did you soak it in milk to remove the fishy taste? Did you want it fishy? And does this chefjeb person not like people to post pics to their recipe? Dont think I care for that.

I too LOVE the entire head of celery in the background Frankie....so funny! That recipe is majorly lacking seasoning IMO! Catfish is very mild without a strange flavor like you said. Maybe it was the breading. Or you just might not like it?? I don't know....

    Too funny with the celery!

I have yet to cook catfish at home but I've eaten it many times prepared different ways. It is not as mild in flavour as tilapia or the like & can also get a weird slimy texture.. I appreciate trying to oven fry it but I'd either really fry it or blacken it. Mrp's preparation also sounds good.

I had a wonderful fried catfish sandwich last week & then I saw Sunny Anderson make one on Cooking For Real on the Food Network. Yummy!

It didn't taste fishy to me. It tasted kinda like dirt - or mud. Maybe it was just my imagination as I know how they eat. I don't know. It was farm raised. But ChefJeb said that was the best kind. I may try it again but right now I am wishing I bought the nice piece of cod that was right next to it. I gave the rest to my cats and dog. One cat wouldn't touch it! :-D
You can't blame ChefJeb too much, MrP, about him not wanting people to post pictures on his recipes. Around the time he left, things were kind of ugly around GR. It was not being monitored and people were posting pictures on other people's recipes that weren't pictures of food. All kinds of stupid stuff was going on around here. He left when all that was going on. I can't really blame him. I almost left a couple of times myself.

Oh OK. That reasoning is much better than what I was thinking about people posting pics to his recipes. For some reason I thought it had to do with pics not being up to his standards. I dont know why I thought that, though.

Did you get full on celery : ) Those potato fries look good

That was a russet, peeled, cut up and tossed in olive oil, garlic powder, salt and pepper and put in the oven about 10 minutes before the fish.
Actually, I don't like celery that much. Just the very inside, teeniest ones that are nearly white. It was just for visual effect. :-P

Well it was a great visual. I dont like it all that much either (raw), except with peanut butter. For some reason I got labeled with celery : P I like it cooked though. It absorbs flavor well. Stir frys, stews and now smothered pork chops.

I think Im going to try those potatoes. Thanks
