    I found this using the search ingredient "tri tip." Tri tip is also pretty common here in California and I had a little steak on hand. I only had Jack Daniels which is sour mash whiskey - not rye - but I don't use whiskey much so I wasn't going to go buy another bottle. I really could taste the whiskey and also got that (not too) familiar liquor "burn" on my tongue when I was eating this. I had grilled my steak over charcoal for five minutes each side and was worried the alcohol hadn't burned off. That is how much I could taste it. I'm typing pretty well so I guess I'm not tipsy but I wouldn't be surprised if I was. :-P Served this with my first potato crop of the year, which I mashed.

    We actually have some whiskey right now which we never do! This looks great..now I just have to find the tri-tip which I hardly ever see around here. Is there another name for it maybe? I know meats go by different names in different areas so it can get confusing lol!

    Oh cool, I'll have to save this! I live in a prairie province! Rye whiskey is what we have in Canada, a blend of corn and rye to be specific and usually we just call it Rye. It's a little spicier and has a bite to it so I can see it being good here. Lol at being tipsy, I'd probably be too ;) Love the picture, looks good!

    You'll rarely see tri-tip unless you ask a butcher for it, it's used to make other cuts of meat. Sirloin tip is made from part of the tri so that would be the best sub. :)

    It drives me nuts how the cuts of beef vary from area to area. There is no such thing as "brisket" where I live and I never can find a similar cut. Too odd. There are bunches of recipes using brisket and I feel left out. :(
