Reviews member

I got to thinking that perhaps some of our newer members may not know "who" or what we were talking about.

I would love to know if anyone is using the bookmarks here.

I went there a couple of times just to check it out. I find it more convenient to click on a link between the "IMI" group and the authors recipe. But then when I search for a specific type recipe or ingredient, the filters Kris has in place do me just fine.
It is nice to have a sort filter in the "tried and reviewed" recipes, which is what the people/reviews is about, I just haven't found the need to use it. Although I have made recipes that were already in people/reviews because I notice the icon in the "people who like this dish" section of the individual recipes.

I have no idea what the review thingy is. I went to the link and its a member page or looks like one. Then I see that there are no followers listed but if you go to the followers tab there are a bunch of people. What is the purpose of it? Was it created when IMI was? Is it a substitute for IMI? Are you supposed to post on the page if you made something? There is still a lot that I dont know about GR. I usually hit the home page, IMI and then my page. Heck I tried that planner thing for a bunch of recipes and when I went to try and find them there was nothing. But then Im not the best planner anyway :)

It is a Faux member page created by lilliancooks as a repository for recipes that have been tried, reviewed, and given a favorable rating from GR members. It's main advantage is the ability to do a search by keyword of recipes in its database which is separated from the general population of recipes at GR because they reside in the reviews member profile page.
I have written a short blurb in the comments section of the Reviews page covering this. Read more about it in the "about me" section of the reviews profile page.

Thanks, Points. I will go look. Would that be the same as this group with the ability to add recipes? I recently noticed this group has them in a tab. I havent looked thru them yet.

BTW, Frankie, it looks like you have some work ahead of you. Thank you for that. Im glad the original IMI will remain. This is such a great group. Especially for me.....

Here's a bit more explanation, MrP.
Only the moderator of IMI can add recipes to this actual group. A recipe poster can add a recipe to any group they are a member of when they post a recipe, but only the moderator gives the final OK and adds them to the actual group. There are a few sitting here right now that have been submitted to IMI to be added here. The moderator can OK or Deny the recipe. Any recipes added to this group can be seen in the Recipes tab.
Because some of us make recipes or have made recipes that were posted by members no longer active here, there was no way to get the those recipes posted to this group because there was no way to get the recipe poster to request it added here. And the poster has to be a member of IMI in order to request the recipe be added to the group in the first place. So - virtually impossible. Why in the heck members of a group cannot add a recipe to a group they are a member of is beyond me!! It used to be an option in the "old days." I think its probably the one thing that is missed the most around here.
So, Lillian started the Reviews "member" and as Reviews she would bookmark the recipes made here. Then they showed up in Reviews' bookmarks. One can also search Reviews' bookmarks so - all the recipes made in IMI were there!
I hope that makes sense. After I read it, it doesn't really. :-P
I think what I will do is, as Reviews, bookmark the most current recipes and work my way back. I probably can figure out where Lillian left off by checking the last bookmarked recipe, but going back and finding that thread would be nearly impossible.

I don't think you are working with the comments threads, just the recipes.

Frankie, I'm a little late here, been off the computer all weekend.
I remember when Lillian started both groups. and honestly, the Reviews page just seems like a doubled effort that's not used. (A few of us hinted that to Lillian when she started it). Especially now that it hasn't been used in so long. If you know how to search, the recipes are easy to find. Kris shared how to search back when the site first changed, maybe we need to inform newbies of the search parameters.

Such as, if you are searching for a recipe that you think a member posted as Baked Spinach Chicken, and you search Baked Spinach Chicken on their page, then the search feature will bring up everything "baked" in their posts! BUT, if you search their page for Spinach, then the results will be much fewer and you can find it easily. Not to mention that all they have to do is search the threads here to find it.

Anyway, I would opt for IMI only. But, that's just me. I'm glad Lillian added you as a moderator!

Also, Kris explained in the beginning of the new site why members can no longer add recipes of other members to groups. Reason being, that there was so MUCH childish drama before. Someone could create a group called "These Recipes Taste Like Sh*t" then members could go through the site adding any recipe they wanted. It was a feature to help cut down on stuff like that. Unfortunately, a few bad apples spoil it for the whole barrel sometimes.

Hi, sparow. Thanks for letting me know your thoughts.
I do remember Kristopher's reasoning behind members not be able to add recipes to groups. But, as it is now, the moderator can accept or decline any recipe that a poster has requested to be added to a group. So, as there is that function now, it would be nice if other members could request recipes be added to a group as well. The moderator could then allow or decline.
After much thought, and as the above isn't an option, I still thought that it may be nice to have all the tried and true recipes in one place. That way, if I knew that I wanted a recipe that was a guaranteed success, I could go look for it at Reviews by typing an ingredient search. Also, my memory is terrible. As member Reviews and bookmarking recipes that have been posted here in IMI, I realized I had forgotten so many great recipes I have made. So, I guess I'll continue to have Reviews bookmark recipes. Frankly, I am already back into the threads that were posted eight months ago (it was raining this weekend so I had a lot of time) and there are already a bunch that are bookmarked anyway. A lot of us have made the same recipes that others have made in the past time and time again.
Thanks again, sparow, for your thoughts. I hope you don't think I'm totally ignoring your suggestion as that isn't the case. I guess I kinda figure that Lillian had something in mind that could be a good idea - if it was used. Maybe now that people have again been made familiar with Reviews, or even just introduced to it, then it will get used a bit more.
I do agree that a search refresher post would be nice.
By the way - y'all make a lot of macaroni and cheese here. :-D

lol Frankie...that's totally up to you. I know you aren't ignoring me. You have to do what you think is best. : ) I wish more people would use IMI. Sometimes I get a note that someone has made a recipe that might have been posted eons ago, but, they aren't active in groups so no one else ever sees the note. : /

Yes, I wish more people would use IMI, too. Especially as it isn't that hard to find. While I was adding recipes, though, I did find that a few people posted to IMI but then didn't bother to rate the recipe or even comment on it! So, those reviews really got lost.
Speaking of Reviews - I do believe I am caught up to where Lillian left off. It seems so. Hopefully, after these thread both IMI and the Reviews page will get used more.

Thanks again Frankie. I have requested several times that GR to allow us to send requests to recipe owners to add theirs to a group to no avail. I also wish there was a way to search for the IMI review for those recipes where there was not a link added. Is there one that I don't know about?

Lovebreezy, I cannot find a way to search for recipes posted in IMI using threads. I don't believe there is a way to search the threads. Only the recipes that have been posted to the group have the search option. If I'm wrong, which could be!, I'd love for someone to show me how to search the threads. It would be nice to type in a search for "chicken" or whatever and have every thread that ever had that in the title pop up, but I don't think its an option.

I didn't think so. That is why I'm so glad that IMIers started posting a link to the review on the recipe's page. That said, I wish the old IMI recipes had that post too. Oh well, in time the majority will have them.

You have to go to the "recipes" tab in the IMI group. Then you can search for attributes to a recipe. Don't know how long the recipes will be in the IMI group. Frankieanne might be deleting them as she moves them to the "Reviews" page. But the strings will always be there.

Oh, that reminds me. I need to sign in as "Reviews" and bookmark a bunch of recipes that have been posted to IMI in threads. Thanks for the bump (reminder), Lovebreezy! :)
