    Scones For Afternoon Tea
Yesterday was my boss's birthday and he loves scones so I wanted to make these for his coffee tomorrow. I've never made scones before. Holy cow, I am just not a baker. I had a heck of a time with these. My dough was super wet and sticky. I had a hard time kneading it. I had dough all over the place. I managed to get nine scones cut and on the baking sheet. I don't even have a pastry brush so I had to pat the milk on top with my hands.
But - I have to say they were delicious.
Although I don't know if they look "right" or not. :-P

The scones turned out beautiful Frankieanne! I have never made them before either..now you have me wanting to make some...Baking can be messy, I think that's one reason I don't consider myself a baker, there's usually flour everywhere..I'm messy:)
    You did an excellent job!!!!!

Awww, Frankie, I'm sorry you had such a hard time getting my recipe to work for you. :( Scones are basically just sweeter biscuits. I'm glad you liked them in the end, though, and hope your boss enjoys them. I like clotted cream or Devon double cream on mine and my husband likes lemon curd or clotted cream with strawberry or raspberry jam on top of that. What a great birthday present!

Bakerme, if you will excuse my interjection.
The same techniques you learned on my biscuit recipe can be used on this scone recipe.
You have blowout through the top of the "sweet biscuit". Which means it needs a few more kneads.
When the dough gets wet like it did, just throw a handful of flour on it and knead.
I don't see any cut marks from the round biscuit cutter.
    Keep plugging.

Points, I never have any problems with the scones coming out well for me. I think you meant to offer the helpful tips to Frankie. ;)

Frankie, to be honest, yours don't look like my scones. Mine look like my biscuits, but hey, as long as they tasted good and your boss enjoys them, it's all good! :)

    OK, Bakerme. Thank you. :)
I don't know, pso. I'm getting kinda tired of trying to make biscuits. I've never liked baking much due to the mess. Maybe its coming through to my baked goods. I need a break for now. Maybe next year sometime. Thank you for the encouragement though.

Bakerme, what are we to do with Frankieanne? Is it time to ask her to hand in her green apron and offer a hookup with the Pillsbury Dough Boy? :-P

Frankie, I wish we lived closer so we could go over to your house, or have you come to one of ours, and show you in person step-by-step how to make biscuits and scones. I know *I* learn better when someone shows me, or talks me through the process while I do it myself. All the notes in the world don't help when I get down to actually making or doing something and I think, "What did they say to do here??" I could show you how to make biscuits and you could show me how to make one of the amazing recipes you've tried and photographed! What a feast that would be, huh? :)

    Hahahaha, Points!

Yeah, I know, Bakerme. I've thought of that, too. You and pso and I will have to plan a meet-up somewhere. We can all bring flour. Lots of flour. :-P
OK, OK, pso. I get the message. I have a long weekend coming up. :)

I think everyone struggles when baking certain things, no matter how experienced. There is this recipe for homemade cinnamon rolls on AR that everyone I know LOVES...but boy is it a pain in the butt to make EVERY single time...but they always turn out SO GOOD it's totally worth it :)
These do look delicious though, so glad they came together for you in the end..maybe get you some brownie points with your boss? Hehe :)

I think that some people are definitely better at other things than others are. No matter how much practice, teaching etc it just isn't going to happen. Like some can sing or paint or play sports and some cannot. I'm going to try a couple more times (probably) and then call it a day. But - I will try again. I've gotten along fine with the Dough Boy in the past. :)
