    Tex Mex Grilling Rub
This was too salty for me. I ate my steak but I kept reaching for my iced tea. I picked this one because of the brown sugar, but I couldn't tell it was in it. I used chipotle chili powder instead of cayenne.

That's a *lot* of salt. :p Makes me want a glass of water just reading the ingredient list. Your photo, though, looks fantastic, Frankie, and the steak is done to perfection! A beautiful medium-rare, just the way I like it.

    Yum, your steak looks good!
I can see how the salt would over power everything! Did you use a kosher or large flaked salt? I find you have to use half the salt if your subbing fine/table salt for kosher salt or sea salt. I think I'd still use less than half the salt though, a tablespoon of salt would be plenty for that amount of spices, otherwise it does sound like a good rub! :)

Beautiful picture of the steak! I agree that's a lot of salt. You wouldn't want to rub a bunch of it on. Maybe just sprinkle it over the steak.

Thank you, everyone. I used kosher salt. The steak was beautifully done, if I do say so myself! That is why it was upsetting that it was so salty. I needed more brown sugar than salt. I love brown sugar on meats!

Oh Frankieanne I can see like others about the salt levels. I checked out the rib rub that I have and while the salt is 1/3 of a cup the rest of the dry ingredients are way up the amounts used. Sorry it did not work out the way you had hopped.

That's too bad the salt ruined your steak FA.
I agree about brown sugar with meats. It caramelizes it beautifully without it being sweet. It also helps keep the other spices on the meat, and enhances the flavor! :)

Thank you for stopping by, Nadine. Truth be told, I thought about rinsing it off! But, I didn't.
I love brown sugar on chicken! Yum. :)

Is the rub recipe posted here, Nadine? I can't seem to find it in your recipes. I would love to take a look at it!

That steak is beautifully cooked but wow, the salt amount compared to the rest of the ingredients is so high, so I can see how it is salty! Do you still have some rub leftover? Just add extra of the other ingredients to do it to save it, don't throw it away! :)

I thought about that, Michelle! Definitely a good idea but then I knocked over a glass of iced tea that resulted in some tea mixed in what was left. But - yep - definitely would work and fix the problem, too. :)
