okay, I guess I'll be the first one to ask: How much weight did you lose?

I just went to mckenna.com. I guess that's the website, but you have to register and all that..not in the mood..

I just want to know: What is the crux of the his diet plan? Carbs? No carbs? Fat? Low fat?

Basically what McKenna says is that in order to be a thin person, you have to act like you are already thin. To tap into your body's signals to tell you what you need. I will start a new thread about the steps and techniques.

Hey, I'm really glad to see this on GR! I have absolutely no idea what this McKenna thing is----but I'm really looking for support and ideas. This weekend is super scramble busy for me, but I will try to make time to check this out.

Thanks for the great group---let's hope it lives long and WE all prosper from it, lol!

someone should make a quick 'tapping video' so people like gg can understand...its funny looking though - hopefully you tap in the privacy of your home ! lol

I should record it to video the taping I made, then send you a copy you then will see everything he is talking about... it truly is very interesting - there's no calorie counting...just listening to your stomach and mind frankly - and to remember that before you put food into your mouth.

I have the Four Golden Rules posted. For the first week just follow those rules and disregard everything else.

For those who are curious though. The tapping thing is tapping on certain pressure points on your body (like acupuncture without the pins) to relive sudden cravings you get for reasons other than hunger, like when the brownies come out of the oven and you know you'll burn your mouth but...tap tap tap, i feel better now, lol. Anyways I can get a video posted, but I will post it when I can get to the craving busting part of the program. This week coming up for sure though.

You guys that don't know McKenna will LOVE this. No equipment to buy, no calories to count, no obsessing about food. You learn to love yourself the way you are, then everything changes and you lose weight without trying too. In six weeks I lost 12 pounds AND I am down 2 inches on my waist!! I am never deprived and occasionally I have one of the for-mentioned brownies, whenever I am hungry that is.

    Thanks, diva! Hi knox.

OMG..you just described EXACTLY what I do with just baked brownies!! Guilty!!!

I am not overweight but that is because I work out like a maniac!! (But I did recently lose 10 lbs) My problem is definitely not making the best food choices on a regular basis. If I did, I wouldn't have to KILL myself at the gym. I'd like to eat more mindfully.

Okay..I went ro the site this morning and I see McKenna employs hypnosis. People (hypnotists) have attempted to hypnotize me in the past and not one of them was successful.. They all said that my "willl" was too strong.

    Can this be overcome?

gg, the good news is that you might not be able to by hyptnotized - lol and the better news is that you are strong willed, period! its about really thinking and being aware of your self, your mind and your stomach before eating. His ideas are nothing new quite frankly, but are certainly handy to be reminded of since we easily can forget, say when we eat in front of a TV, where we can eat easily twice than we actually should. His examples he shows on the TV are wild, and really help understand the points he is trying to teach us. Very rational, very real, very helpful!

its free to join at his website, which I did, but btw, haven't been back since...

Glad to see this group! I recently DVR'd the 4 part series from TLC and I've only watched the first part so far. Being mindful of what you eat just makes so much sense to me. I don't have much time today, but I'll be back this weekend to check it out. Thanks again for the group, smitten!

you don't have to worry about being hypnotised. The first time I listened to the cd, I was like this is just weird. And I was wide awake. But I didn't give up. I try to listen when I am getting tired. It might just be me, but I have to get up at 5 every morning for the hubby. At about 1 I am dog tired. So I lay down, put the head set on and rest, usually fall asleep. 17 minutes later, when he says you'll wake up when I count down from 10, My eyes seems to snap awake when he reaches three. I always feel like I had a long sleep, even though it was less than 20 minutes.

I think it helps but your mileage may vary

BTW smitten, you never told us how much weight you've lost so far and if you have achieved your goal yet.

Also did you incorporate exercise into your program?

I'm off to the gym..be back later!

One of the unwritten rules of Paul's methods is to get rid of the scales. If you really must know, only weigh yourself once a month. In people who are naturally thin , their weight goes up and down based on the time of day, day of the month, whether or not they had a bit more salt that day and or a host of other reasons. No one is going to jump on the scale and lose 20 pounds over night. Do not get tied to a number.

As for success, about six weeks ago I bought a belt, XL of course, and it was a bit tight. The little hole I stuck the buckle in a more oval than round now. As of this morning, I am down two notches and those holes are perfectly round!!

Glad you asked about exersice. Paul says that studies have shown a naturally thin person takes about 6000 steps a day, an average fat person takes about 4000. Those extra 2000 steps is a 15 minute walk. Anyone can walk for 15 minutes. Get a pedometer and try to beat the day before's steps by 100. Soon those numbers will add up and you won't even realize it. I had over 15,000 steps one day.

I actually gave up some exersice. I was doing 12 second sequence, 2X week. After watching Paul's show about exersice, I did the routine twice more. After that second time I realized that I just plain don't like it and if I kept forcing my self to do something I didn't like, I would lose interest in all exersice, like I have done so many times before. Now I walk, hike, I am making a veggie and fruit garden, I am slowly making my yard look better. I am teaching an after school program called outdoor adventures, (a six week thing). I bought a bathing suit because I love swimming, just waiting for the water to warm up enough. I love photography so I look for reasons to go take pics, those hikes and walks. The dog has lost weight too.

I know what you mean about the scale.. I have one down in the basement and I DON"T use it!! I know that I lost 10 lbs based on the fit of my clothes. They were a smaller size, of course.

But I also don't use it because I've noticed (over many years of working out with weights), that even though I might be smaller, the number on the scale would not really reflect that.... I know that muscle weighs more and takes up less space than fat but PSYCHOLOGICALLY it was bringing me down!! Way down--so I just stopped weighing myself!

Tomorrow I'll be stopping by the bookstore to pick up this book.

    Thanks, smitten!
