What was your first Mediterranean dish?

I grew up in a family that wasn't very culinarily adventurous. Case in point, for the longest time my mother thought capers were fish eggs! My aunt's friend is Lebanese, so she was my first introduction to Mediterranean cuisine. I believe it was cooked kibbeh. It is now one of my favorites - Greek, Turkish, Lebanese, Moroccan - it's all good!

I can't remember my first dish..however I do remember when I was first married there was a local Authentic Greek resturant and I didn't taste anything I didn't like! I am excited to try to make some of the recipes you have on the site and hopefully add a few of my own.

Maybe it's not quite Mediterranean but it's Middle Eastern.
Someone I knew was married to a Persian man and she cooked many dishes for him. She gave me a sample of one of her dishes and I loved it.
This is probably all wrong but I think it was beef (maybe lamb), celery, parsley and a little rice, all in a nice broth.
It seemed to be simple but quite wonderful. If anyone might have a recipe that resembles this, I would really love to have it.

My first dish was spanikopita as well. My mom took me to a Greek Festival and I remember it was just one of the yummiest things ever.

I lived in Turkey for a year right on the Aegean Sea and I guess my first was a sandwich called SUJUK . ("sausage" in Turkish) . We ate off the street vendors and it was awesome ! My favorite is donar kebab, tho . It's the same thing you put in the gyros with the zatziki sauce...yum !

Hmm... when I was a teenager my mother and I went to a Greek festival in Portland, Oregon. I think that was my first experience, and I've loved Greek food ever since! I don't recall exactly what we had to eat, but I know there was lamb, spanikopita, and baklava.
