Fab Friday!

Good Morning everyone! TGIF! It's a glorious morning here in the Ottawa Valley! Jim and I are going to put the bikes on the bike rack and head downtown after breakfast. There are some lovely bike trails along the Ottawa River and the Rideau Canal that we are going to go check out. Hope to have lunch at the Dosa Food Truck. Have been hearing about it for over a year now but haven't had a chance to try it out.

    Going to make
Guy Fieris Chicken W Salsa Verde
for dinner this evening. I've got ingredients for a # of different salads so we'll see what I choose based on what time we get home!
Had to giggle at the thought of training Charlie to be a St. Bernard with a cask Tina. I think you're on to something! :) That's very nice that the Foodnow driver is so helpful. There are very good people in the world aren't there! Smiley's Deli sounds like a neat place. Hope Liv has a good time with all the 4th of July celebrations at the Toasted Monkey. Yum on the crawfish boil.
You sure got a lot of rain Karen! That's sad that you lost another chicken.
That is a great story about your Mom winning on a lottery ticket Laurie and using the funds as a down payment on a house. She did very well for herself.
    Wishing everyone a great day!

Love the picture! Quite the "biker" takeoff! Ha ha.

    Enjoy your bike ride.

I have read on a couple of FB posts (I know, FB is hardly reliable) that poultry in Texas and Oklahoma and ??? have just been up and dieing with no seeming cause. Wayne WILL put a game camera in the coop to check for snakes or weasels, the only thing small enough to get inside, and maybe one outside to check for would-be-chicken-dinner-eaters. The war is on. I must protect my critters. Still afraid to order more for fear they succumb also or are already infected. I know dog and cat food using ingredients from China has killed American pets, so maybe the brand of chicken feed I bought has some also. Other than concertina wire around the perimeters (JOKING) I am out of ideas on how to protect them.

Tina, I had to Google Full Sleeve - once I got past the tattoos there were some beverages shown, so I assume it is a low / no calorie drink. Not sure exactly what you have on the walker, but it sounds like anything tall and tippy is a no-no, and anything flat and low works. So if you lay the unopened can on its side, the dinner in a flat container alongside, it will work? Creative thinking is good. I have no plans on getting a tattoo, but if I did it would be a miniscule Morgan Horse or Colt .45, preferably on somewhere hidden from public view - Bwahahaha! I think maybe I will pass. I don't like anything permanently affixed. It seems to be quite popular now to get one, though.

    Good afternoon!
I have a migraine and the med's are making my tummy ache--boo!
I have a quick question Janet, how long in advance can you freeze the philly clouds? and when you take them out to serve, do you let them thaw for a bit or just serve right away? Sorry that's two questions lol. I went to the store yesterday and got everything but forgot the lemon! I have the lemon curd though so maybe I can use orange juice in place of lemon juice?---I'll improvise somehow!
    Lol at the tattoo Karen!!!

What a fun jaunt! LOVELY, LOVELY bike ride along the Ottawa River. Parked at Remic Rapids where there are a ton of these cool rock sculptures. The bike path was under construction just before Parliament so we had to take a detour and then just walk our bikes past Parliament Hill. Carried them down to the Locks at the Chateau Laurier and then doubled back. Tried to get to the Dosa truck by 2 (closing) and made it with ten minutes to spare but he'd ran out of masala dosa and only had weird flavours, spinach and paneer, walnuts and olives etc. left and I had my heart set on a masala dosa (potato and veg.) So.....we drove to China Town and went to a little Dim Sum place we hadn't been to in a long while. Had a great lunch. Stuffed though. Will be eating dinner late tonight.
Grabbed a couple of groceries and some wine for the weekend and now I need to go prep the chicken. Think I may just cut up some grape tomatoes and avocado slices and drizzle them with my Gremolata Olive oil as a side.
On the topic of chickens in the U.S. Karen, you just reminded me that when we were in Rainy River my Mom told me that the Canadians were not allowed to bring chicken of any sort back over the bridge from Baudette, Minnesota. A lot of people in Rainy River do their grocery shopping over there. I never did find out why, but....
Had to google concertina wire. :) I figured that was it but never knew the name. Then I wondered why it was called that? So had to google (I may be addicted to googling?) :) Turns out it is named after a concertina which is an instrument that looks like a small accordion. You learn something every day I tell ya!
Oh Shona....you are having a bad time of it aren't you! Rest up. Feel better! Sending you some virtual broth to ease your stomach. I usually make the philly clouds up in the morning and freeze them all day. Infact, you can make them days in advance and they keep well in the freezer, but...I'd say an hour or two minimum in the freezer should freeze them up. I do let them thaw for maybe 5 min. before serving just so they are not rock hard. I think you could totally add orange juice instead of lemon, or even lime juice. Hope you like them.

Hi! Slept in today then went grocery shopping! It's nice grocery shopping when there isn't kids asking for something every thirty seconds lol. I had over $300 in Kroger cards from the Union still, so I was in heaven. Lobster tails and ribeyes were on sale so I got some! Michael and I are going to have a lobster tail each and split a humungous steak...then the other 3 ribeyes are going in the freezer. I've only cooked lobster once so I need to read up on how to cook them again. Hope everyone is having a great day!!

Thanks Janet! I ended up using a tablespoon of cream and a tsp of lemon extract for the zest. They are freezing now :) Wow, what a lovely day you had today, love dim sum! My brother told me awhile ago that they are asking everyone at the border about poultry because of the avian flu outbreak, so no poultry allowed right now.
I have desert figured out but no dinner, lol. It's so hot, even with all the fans and AC it's still 28c in the house. I think dinner will be salad!
Mmm, dinner sounds great Michelle! I bought steaks and jumbo shrimp for tomorrow's dinner. We grill the shrimp on a slotted grill sheet. You can grill the lobster tail too! :)

How fun to have that much in gift cards at the grocery store Michelle. YUMMERS on your lobster tails and ribeyes. I always feel paranoid cooking lobster because a) it's so expensive to buy and b) I don't cook it often enough that I have confidence I'll do it right again. :)
Glad you got the dessert all done Shona. I've never grilled lobster tails.

Hi all. Janet, loved your FB pictures. The restaurant looks interesting. Nice bike ride - I might make it one block and back if there are not hills or slopes - ha!

Michelle, lobster and steak sound great. Shona, so does your plan for tomorrow. ! It is bacon and eggs tonight and burgers tomorrow for the 4th. We ate at Applebee's after picking up a part for the baler and I had sirloin on whole grains with grilled tomatoes. It was O.K. but our waiter was new and messed up Wayne's order slightly - I am certain he did not hear it correctly, but hey, everyone has to start somewhere. So we just didn't worry about it - don't sweat the small stuff. The food was not quite up their usual standards, I think it depends on who is cooking. After ordering, I noticed they DID have soup and salad options, but it was a tad bit late. LOL!

We put a game camera in the hen house so we can see if a snake or weasel has figured out how to get inside. They all huddle under the warming lamp, so we are going to leave it on for them. I was sweating while in the coop closing up and adding feed. They ran for the warm light. We put some fresh hay down and they were happily scratching away. One came within a foot or so of me and so I think they are beginning to tame a bit. Still worried about them.

A HUGE red tailed (I think) hawk landed right outside the sun room, and of course I had no camera! He stood as high as my knee, tip of tail to tip of beak. I should say she - the females are larger. A little bird was very upset that it was around. Will get a netting to put over the chicken yard so they will be safe. Relatively speaking! We have a birds nest in the GARAGE and it gets locked in / out sometimes. I don't think the eggs will ever hatch because she gets locked out and we can't leave the doors open at night or who knows what will get inside. Can't move it or she will not find it. So we leave it open all day and hope she can get in by nightfall when we close it. Sigh!

    Hi everyone!
Did a big grocery shop for tomorrow. I'm making the Mexican cornbread salad I think it's from allrecipes. Cheesecake brownies. Chocolate chip cookies. Hamburgers and dogs for the grill and everyone else is bringing stuff. Trying to decide whether to make cupcakes too.
