Fish Taco Friday!

  • chuckieb 7 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! It's going to be another scorcher here in Ottawa today. Going up to 33C/91F. I'm going to weed my herb garden at the side of the house this morning after breakfast and then perhaps pop into town this afternoon and do a bit of clothes shopping and errands. Just want to get a couple of new things for when we head out on holidays.

I think I'll make fish tacos for dinner tonight. Main reason is that I have three avocados I need to use up so I thought I'd make some guacamole and I can use that on fish tacos. :)

What's everyone up to today? Any plans for the weekend? Jim and I are hoping to do a day trip to Gananoque tomorrow and to stop in to visit Fort Wellington on the way.

I want to pack a picnic lunch to bring along as it's really pretty around there.

I should do some house cleaning as well. Next week Jim and I are heading to his Dad's cottage for a few days and we might get visitors for the Long Weekend just after we return home. Not sure I'd have enough time to do the house work then, so I should probably do a bit beforehand. Not that I feel any motivation to do that whatsoever. :)

    Wishing everyone a great Friday!

    Good Afternoon Everyone!

It's 93 here and we had a light afternoon shower to really steam things up. Rest of the day will be spent inside.
Rented the truck this a.m. and moved what we have so far in storage from one company's unit to another. It wasn't that bad, it could have been worse ... right? Rest of the weekend will be cleaning, packing, rearranging, gym, etc... just the usual for now.

Yum on fish tacos Janet, they are always good. Have fun shopping too. Fort Wellington looks cool, hanging my head that us Americans caused so much trouble but on the positive side we gave reason for needing a Fort and now a historical site. :)

Pulled out ground beef and will grill Patties for dinner with a vegetable side and perhaps make a small salad.

I got the weeding I wanted to do accomplished but boy was it hot....even in the shade. Am in the midst of cleaning the house now. It's really not too bad, just needs a good dusting down.

Ugh on your 93F Linda. Good for you guys getting your stuff moved over to the new unit. LOL....no need to hang your head re: the battles at Fort Wellington. Countries are always trying to usurp more land aren't they?

I've ixnayed the Fish taco dinner idea and the clothes shopping idea. Too hot to go anywhere. I'm pretty sure I've got a couple of chicken patties left from the last time I made
Chicken Green Chili Burgers Wguacamole Topping
and I still have four cobs of corn left from last night, so that sounds like a plan.

    Helllloooo!
My computer is S-L-O-W, it's lagging. When I type it takes a few seconds to catch up with me, haha. It's rather annoying so I haven't been typing that much over the last couple of days. I've rebooted everything, I think the kids are using up all the internet so I should be kicking them off so I can use it ;)
I just made blueberry scones for breakfast, the local berries are yummy this year! And I just put some chicken tikka in the oven for dinner as it will be hot later. It's the hottest weather we've had in a month, since May and June...we'll be seeing 30C over the next few days, and higher with humidity because of all the rain we had. My hair is frizzzay! ;)

Wow, that's hot Janet! I heard there was some heat warnings in Ontario. Yum on guacamole!! Not a fish lover here ;) I don't know what we'll be doing this weekend. I need to pull weeds, and do more work on the kitchen..but we'll see how hot it gets. We wanted to go camping, but we'll wait for cooler weather and the bear warnings to go away. There's been two Bear attacks at campgrounds/parks this past weekend. It's berry season! Good idea on cleaning the house, coming home to a messy house after travelling is no fun. That Fort looks cool! I think I saw it on tv once, where they talked about the war and they showed the re-enactments....I believe it was on Haunted Canada? Apparently people have seen ghosts there, lol! I've been to Fort Henry, it's neat when they dress in period costumes--have fun!! :)

Hi Linda, wow...I wouldn't be able to breathe in that weather! Me and hot-humidity don't do well and I get asthma attacks. Will it be much cooler in SC? That's great you found a better storage place, too bad you had to move all your stuff again though! Don't work too hard! ;)

    Have a great day everyone!

I didn't see your recent post Janet! Lol, maybe I telepathically changed your mind about the fish! Haha, just kidding! But boy do those chicken burgers look good, yummo!

I am very much envying your blueberry scones AND chicken tikka Shona. Sounds wonderful! Yikes at the Bear warnings and attacks! That would freak me out. We went to Fort Henry once, and it was quite impressive, but....it just didn't seem 'real' since no battle was ever fought there ever.

Those chicken burgers look right up my ally, saved!
Yum on the blueberry scones Shona. Haven't made scones in some time and probably won't for some time to come. I cleaned my oven about a month ago and have no intention of ever turning it on again. The inside looks brand new and I need to keep it that way. I have a very large toaster oven type thing so if I need to bake I can but I've already started packing items away. South Carolina will get hot during the summer but the humidity is lower ... not always hot and not always humid like here which reeks havoc on my sinuses. I know we have bears here but I have yet to see one, can't imagine coming face-to-face with one, I'd stay away from the campgrounds too.

I need to give the dog a bath but am taking a little break right now. Later I'm making myself one of those frozen banana drinks with rum! I could really go for something cold, creamy, and with something in it to numb the senses. HA!

LOL @ "the inside looks brand new and I need to keep it that way". I hear you. Mine, has not looked new since probably the first week we got it. LOL. Wish I could teleport you and a pitcher of that rum and banana concoction into my living room Karen! :) That is the way Friday should be celebrated! Does LD dislike baths? Nice on the rain.

I'm done cleaning the house and am just waiting for the second entrance way to dry.

LD is more embarrassed than anything. He hates being seen in a "vulnerable" state which is too why you can't look at him if he is doing his business. Once bathed and dried he runs around like a crazy dog because he feels soooooo good.
    Still raining ... Uughhh..

    Hi. Busy day today.

Baler wheel snagged on a tree stump and they had to take the part to a friend of his buddy, who had the equipment to straighten it. That left me with four teens to monitor / survive etc. I made egg salad sandwiches and threw a mix cake in the oven. They were not bad kids, except one girl brought her boy friend....'nuff said!

The fish tacos and Linda's banana rum (maybe sob vodka since rum and I don't agree), blueberry scones, and burgers sound wonderful. Any of the above. Will probably pan fry a coule steaks and steam green beans for supper.

The excessive heat warning has been extended to Sunday. Yesterday the heat index hit 109F. Actual temp was around 96F. It looks like most of the USA are under some sort of advisory. The heat has had a bad affect on trees, etc. I am ready for fall!

LOL @ LD being embaressed Linda. :) It is thundering here but don't know if we'll get any rain. Maybe a couple of minutes worth? Send yours here please.
Uh Oh on the baler wheel snagging Karen. You guys have had a problematic time of getting that hay in! Egg salad and a cake would keep teens happy I'd expect. Steak and green beans sounds yummy. Ugh on the heat warning being extended. Heat is indeed bad for trees. We've got a couple of elm that look like they are shutting down but I suspect they'll come back once we get more rain and cooler temperatures.

Just whipped up the crab mixture for
    Curried Crab Pitas
Jim and I want to do a picnic lunch somewhere tomorrow and the Crab pitas always taste better the second day when the flavours have had a chance to meld.

Total hay was 215 bales. Good we had four young backs to throw the bales. These went to his buddy. We have enough in the loft for next winter unless it is a severe, long one.

The strip steak and green beans were good. First time I used the steamer/pasta cooker we got at the auction. I really like it. You can ship some virtual crab pittas this way if you like....LOL! Yum!

It is to hit 97F tomorrow. 98F Sunday. Little chance of rain. Wayne is looking at auctions but it will have to be inside. Have a good day!

Hi all! Another busy day for us! Dinner was just fast food. Another busy day tomorrow, we have a car wash for Girl Scouts and then my best friend is in town from Georgia and they will be having a get together at her Sister's house in Houston, so we will get head that way after the car wash. SO excited to see her! Her oldest daughter Avery has been friends with Bri all their lives. They are only a couple months apart in age and Face Time each other often :) OK off to paint my nails, goodnight everyone!!
