Frosty Friday

    Good morning.

It is clear and cold outside - two indoor thermometers say 14 F, one 17. Sunday afternoon is supposed to be rain / sleet mixture. Monday should be bad. Snow is hinted at for next Wednesday and Saturday. A typical January. With the freezer full, I hope we don’t have an ice storm or prolonged electrical outage. We have limited generator capacity and then only a few hours a day, but could probably keep it from thawing if we left it closed and ran it off the generator part of the day. We can only hope.

Not feeling particularly creative this morning. Chiropractor treated centered on my neck and that is the problem area. It is a bit stiff this morning.

The blond raccoon returned. I have a pix from last year - will upload it. He brought a friend, also very unusually colored. His cohort is sleek and has a shiny, deep gray on top and a lighter underneath color. He almost matches my kitchen walls! Intellectually I know they are nasty, dangerous little creatures that would just as soon tear you up as not, but we have missed our orange raccoon! As long as he behaves, he is welcome.

Good morning Karen:) The raccoon is beautiful, I didn't even know there were blonde raccoons:) I hear ya on hoping your power stays on, especially with a full freezer..at least you have a generator..that's one thing we should get..we have been fairly lucky as far as having power during storms..if it snows a lot, that's when we lose power..and we don't USUALLY have a lot of snow here...but then again, I remember a few storms that shut the town down:)

I have been busy with end of the year stuff..and we've been busy work wise as well..we have a load of doors being delivered this morning so I need to go to Dolly O's and pick up some donuts for our driver:)

Joce, I hope you're feeling much better each and every day:)

Tina, my thought are with you dear...

Dinner, I don't have a clue..we do have leftover spaghetti:)

    Hello to all:)

I'm sure your driver will appreciate the donuts.

It is past time to be productive so I guess I better do some housework - empty the DW - etc. etc.

    Good morning Karen and Marie:)
Karen, your Butterscotch Raccoon is very different. I wonder what caused it to go away and then decide to come back to see you? I hope it stays well behaved while it and it's friend is there.

Marie, You are always so kind to your drivers. I am sure they all appreciate you going for doughnuts and coffee for them.

Not sure what I am having for dinner yet. Den will have a rib eye steak and fries. I might have a lobster as I have one left in the freezer? We shall see later on if I still feel like it or not.

Tina, My thoughts are with you and Liv. I think you mentioned Liv goes back to work today? Hugs))) to both of you.

    Happy TGIF everyone!

Yes Karen, they love the donuts & coffee..and the tip as well:)

Hi Joce:) We enjoy treating the drivers..they have a long drive, and the other door companies don't give them squat..I believe it makes them feel appreciated:) (Which they are)
Oh man, I would LOVE to be having lobster for dinner! Did you see where Janet found some lobster tails for something like $3.99 each? I believe that was the price...what a bargain!

Joce, I think the super cold weather made food gathering difficult, so he returned to easy pickings. Would like to get a photo of his companion, but that is a bit tricky since it is so cold we sure don't want to lower a window and pix don't do well through windows and screens. We have nicknamed him Blondie (before we realized he was actually a male). His previous mate brought her babies up one time - very cute but I really don't care to be a day / night care for raccoons.

Very cool, Karen. Were the babies lighter blonde coloured as well?

Marie, Yes the tails were on for $3.99 a pound but, they aren't very big only little canner size. You might get a couple of good bites from each tail. Good enough for surf and turf though. They go on sale often like that when they are in season.

Hello. Just a note, I haven't been able to focus and read the threads, I'm sorry. Olivia ended up getting the day off. We are trying to decide where to go and leave the house around 3 to 6 today. Time of death was 5:07 and neither of us want to be here. She picked up 9 death certificates yesterday from the health department.

I went to the doctor on Wednesday for the hand. It is definitely not healing correctly and he has ordered an imaging to see if the nerve and tendon, soft damage tissue can be repaired. He said we have a small opportunity to reopen the wound and put things back together the correct way. Trouble is I can't find an imaging facility for a woman of substance. I am back on antibiotics, stronger this go round.

Celebration of Life is Jan 20th, 5 to 8 pm at the Toasted Monkey. Arrangements made for cremation. We are working on the details slowly.

Liv and I are not sleeping well and we have had Allison bringing us meals. Scotty has been helping. We had Wendy's chili last night. We have to take the dogs into the vet for stitches removed Monday. Molly has a polyp that we are worried about.

Freddie did so much for me, this is tough. Tougher than I ever imagined. I love him and miss him.

Good Morning! Crossing fingers you don't get power outage Karen! I didn't know there were blonde raccoons either. Pretty color!

That is sweet that you get donuts for the driver Marie! Bet they love it :)

Hi Joce, lobster for dinner sounds perfect! Wish I could find a good deal on lobster, it's NEVER on sale around here :(

Going to go to the FM today and pick up some venison sausage while I'm there. We have a TV repair guy coming in a bit, (our apps aren't working on it) so I will wake up Michael to wait for him. Also we have a birthday party to go tomorrow next door so I may make a stop at Toy's R Us for a gift. What does a 6 year old boy want? Lol! Thinking of making these tonight, they look so good Thai Chicken Burgers With Spicy Peanut Slaw not sure what to have along side them, if anything? Okay, gotta move, hope everyone has a great day!

Hi Everyone! Jim had a Dentist appointment (getting a crown) at 8 a.m. so we were out of here pretty early this morning.
I had known about Sosousme Joce. Saw her going about it a while back. She's from Santa Rosa and back when Jim and I were travelling back and forth to California she actually gave me some restaurant recommendations when we were about to tour Sonoma country. Which was very nice of her. She did have some good recipes on GR as well.
All the power to you and "GO YOU" Laurie fighting that pipeline. It's so important for people to stand up for what the believe is right and it's not until they do that things change. Good luck and keep us posted.
It has warmed up CONSIDERABLE here and we are no longer in a deep freeze although the temps are going down quite a bit overnight.
That certainly is a different coloured raccoon Karen. Very neat. I know raccoons are wild and certainly can cause a lot of damage but they can also be adorable. One year when Benjamin and I were out in the front yard, five small babies came right in close to us and had a blast in the bird bath. They were highly entertaining to watch. :)
Good luck with the door delivery and your year end work Marie.
Good to see you Tina. 9 death certificates? Having never been through that process I have no clue how these things work but 9 sounds like a large number. If I'd been guessing I'd guess a person got one. That's good that Liv got the day off. I hope you and she have a nice quiet dinner out some where. So sorry to hear your hand isn't healing well. My heart goes out to you. Take care.
Oh goodness Michelle, those burgers certainly do look good.
I'm going to make some sort of Asian short ribs for dinner tonight. Something like this:
    Korean Style Kalbi Ribs
    with edamame on the side.
Jim's crown was supposed to take 2 1/2 hours and only one appointment but the machine that mills the crowns broke down so it took 2 hours, 45 min. and he has to go back for another appointment in a couple of weeks. While he was in the chair I ran errands. Had breakfast at McD's, then groceries at Sobey's, Pharmacy, Hardware store, picked Jim up then did a Costco run and then I had to hit a couple of stores as the power cord to my laptop totally died so I couldn't boot it up. ARgh. However....Canada Computers had the cord I needed for $18. I was so pleased. The guy at Best Buy told me to expect to pay around $80. Jim and I went to the Urban Turban for lunch and had the buffet which was okay but not fantastic. Roads were really greasy this morning but by the time we came home they were 100% better.
Need to go make a Szechuan sea salt for my edamame. Picked up a movie for tonight "Boyhood". Don't know if it'll be any good or not.

Michelle, Did you cook those mysterious green leaves yet? Sounds like you are going to be really busy for the next few days.

Good to see you drop in to give us updates, Tina. It is a long tiring process settling anyone's estate. We generally get our death certificates here from the funeral home and a rule of thumb is, you pay for an unlimited amount of death certificates b/c, you need them for practically everything. Same thing for copies of a Will if there is one. Please try to take it easy if you can and take care of your hand. HUGS)))

Wow! That is a long time to spend in a dentist chair, Janet. Poor Jim:( You were really busy this morning as well! Those ribs look good. LOL another bookmark I forgot I had:) I have never heard of the movie "Boyhood"?

That makes sense re: death certificates Joce. I hadn't realized. Rotten Tomatoes gives "Boyhood" top marks so I'm optimistic.

SP Tina! I don't blame you for wanting to leave the house at that time. Have you and Olivia been doing that every day? I do hope you can find an imaging facility for you soon, and figure out what to do with that hand. That is so good that Allison is bringing you meals, it's always nice to have a friend like that.

Wow on getting warmer weather Janet! Is that pretty unusual for this time of year? Those ribs look fantastic, and I just love edemame! Ugh on the crown appt. and having to go back. I have had 4 crowns and all are such a pain in the butt! Sounds like you got a lot of running around done, that's always a good thing!

Joce, I am probably going to cook up the greens either tomorrow or Sunday for lunch. I had no idea what they would smell like cooking and I didn't want the TV repair guy to get hit with a bad stench when he came in lol!

Going to get basically a whole new “computer” inside the T.V. What's wrong with it is that it won't play any app's such as netflix, amazon prime etc. It's just not connecting. Anyway, I was kinda hoping they wouldn't be able to fix it and give us a whole new one :) It's actually a really nice T.V. You can talk to it! Did all my running around and made a few extra stops while I was out. Buckee's is right by the outlet mall Toy's R Us is in so I stopped there and picked up some of their homemade beef jerky, it's really good stuff. Also had to stop at Walmart (BLAH) to get wrapping paper and a bow. I swore that Toy's R Us had that kind of stuff?! Okay off to make the cole slaw!

When I say 'warmer weather' Michelle, I'm talkin' -10C/14F vs. yesterday when it was -26C/-14F. And yes, that's fairly 'normal' for us. Big blasts of cold and then some milder temps to keep us sane and to stop us from alllll packing up and moving to Florida and Texas. :) Good that they are fixing your TV. Our newest TV is a Smart TV and has all the features but our internet connection and speed is just not up to par and thus it is painful to try and even download a Youtube video on it. Yum on beef jerky. I'd have thought Toy's R Us would have wrapping paper and bows too!
A bit more snow is falling. Jim is starting us up a fire.

Yep, we need a death certificate for the insurance company, the mortgage company, the bank and just about everyone else you can think of...the funeral home would do it for you, but charge for this service and it takes a week. We can pay and do it and get them within 30 minutes. Freddie wanted the cheapest possible arrangements, even if it meant more work for Liv and me.

We have been home most days, but runaway was the name of the game today. She went back out after dropping me off. I'm tired and I want to crawl into bed and cry for awhile.
I can't get an imaging on my hand until next Friday. I hope it won't be too late.

SeaHags treated us to dinner, I had the pork tenderloin sandwich and a big salad. Liv had their twin pork chops because that is what Fred would have ordered. It was a teary dinner.

Tina, there will be good and bad days. Death certificates are best ordered in bunches - every insurance policy / company / bank etc. wants one. How sweet that you have been treated to lunch at SeaHags and that Allison is looking after your meals. Time will help. Don't try to do too much too soon - it will get better.

Janet, do let us know how the greens turned out. I understand not wanting to chance strange aromas wafting about until the repair guy is out of the way. Ugh on the long dentist appt. I would have to request bathroom breaks - LOLOL.

Michelle, around here the saying is you know you have lived in MO too long when everything you need can be found at WalMart.

We had a grass fire call this afternoon. I was the report getter. We called on 2 other departments for mutual aid. The development is sold as lots only, with people living in tents and small RVs, etc. Our large fire trucks can't cross the rickety wooden bridge so they had to stage on the other side. I hope they fix the bridge before a house fire happens. Before the fire was out we had a call for an accident, turned command over to one of the other depts., and headed for the accident. Busy!.

I did decide that if we have another 3 hour fire to fight, in temperatures hovering in the 20s with a viable breeze, on flat land with no concealing bushes, a porta-potty would be of prime importance.

It was dark when we got home, and A.C. escaped into the night. I spied a blond raccoon tail disappear around the gazebo, A. C. in hot pursuit. Fortunately for A.C., Blondie was faster. Cold, shivering in 20 degree temperatures, we hunted 15 minutes until he finally flew across the yard, pranced about, then gave up and let Wayne pick him up. When we brought him inside, he flipped his tail around and threw a fit. One ticked cat. He is now asleep on Wayne's lap, oblivious to the rest of the world -- until the next time! If it was not for poor old Miss Kitty, I was ready to leave him outside to fend off the raccoons alone!
