Fun stuff for Friday!

    Good Morning Everyone!

Canadian Thanksgiving is quickly approaching. The weekend of Oct. 8th with Monday the 10th the official Turkey day. :) Jim's cousin in Montreal wants to have us join them for the occasion as long as their kitchen reno has been completed in time. I imagine we'll hear from them soon. They have two little girls and I came across this recipe for Rice Krispie Turkey legs the other day and thought it was Hilarious! So if we do indeed head to see them I am going to try this out:
    http://www.hallmarkchannel.com/home-and-family/recipes/rice-krispies-turkey-legs

Also came across a cute devilled egg recipe for fall.
    http://www.foodista.com/recipe/RBMZQ6CT/thai-spiced-deviled-eggs
I don't know that I'd do the thai thing, but I think I could just add food colouring to the egg yoke and make it look the same?

And.....I saw this recipe for a Carrot Cake Trifle
    http://www.kraftcanada.com/recipes/carrot-cake-trifle-194234
with Kraft caramels. I'd prefer to make the carrot cake from scratch and also use real whipped cream, but I think the whole thing together just looks so nice! :)
Can you tell I'm getting excited for Thanksgiving to arrive?

Even if we don't end up going to Montreal I love making Turkey dinner at home. And even if we do go, I'll go buy one to make when we do get home. :)

    Making the
    Leeky Chicken
for dinner this evening for sure.

Jim got the dirt back in the trench and re-landscaped it with a proper slope but didn't get to re-planting the shrubs and hostas so he'll do that this morning along with a bit of re-parging of the concrete wall for aesthetics. I may go mow the back lawn. Then we'll head into town in the afternoon and run some errands.

Hope you got a good sleep last night Bren!

Ugh on car trouble Marie but glad it was a quick fix.

Your description of your fave Chinese items last night has me craving them now Shona. Especially the peppered tempura. Never heard of that before! Sounds like you had a feast!

I see you have the new IMI group up and running Michelle. I signed on first thing! Good Luck to you, and have fun!

    Wishing everyone a grand Friday!

Good morning Janet. Those turkey legs are adorable and I'm sure that they would be a hit with the children. Yum on the eggs and the dessert looks stunning!! That chicken recipe looks good too. I've made some of her recipes and enjoyed them.
Thanks Janet, I woke up feeling tired and have a long day ahead of me. Way too much going on here.
Congrats Michelle and thank you. I think that you and IMI are a perfect fit.
No plans for dinner yet but it will probably be fish. We will spend Saturday at MIL packing and sorting and I'm taking Sunday off to shop with my daughter. We're going to hit the Paderno outlet and the Nike one.
    Wishing everyone a great day!!

    Good Morning Everyone! T.G.I.F.!!!

The food items you noted Janet are really cute. I too love everything about Thanksgiving and love the leftovers even more.
Nice that your home project is almost complete and that it wasn't as 'back breaking' as first thought. A lot of work though.

Thank you again everyone for the bday wishes yesterday. I see Bren and Marie posted late so wanted to say thank you again.
So sorry you both are having "those days" that just leave you ragged. Hoping the weekend brings a pleasant change.

Looks like it might be a really nice day here. It stormed yesterday and looks like it's cleared up today. Going to take advantage of it and plant some stuff for Bella for Bunny in the planter. I have two planters empty and will start radishes in one and lettuces in another.
Doing some laundry and dusting today.
I'm wanting to get an aromatherapy diffuser. I keep reading such great things about aromatherapy and think it would be nice to get one. I will treat myself and look at ordering one today. I have my eye on this one (only because I am familiar with the site) but I will look around first and compare prices and then educate myself a little about what to use for what reason. I know Lavender is suppose to help with sleep. I have Lavender essential oil already and hoping it will help DH sleep better.

I need to look for a recipe to make so I can post to the new I.M.I.! I know I have stuff saved, just need to pick something.
    Happy Friday everyone!

Pace yourself Bren. No sense burning out! Doing the outlets with your daughter Sunday sounds very fun. I used to sell Paderno when I managed the Hardware store. It's great stuff.

It kind of looks like it might rain here but it's not supposed to. :) Have fun planting Bella goodies Linda. :) Good luck with the laundry and dusting. That is a super cool aromatherapy diffuser. I have a couple but they're the simple ones with a little tray on top to hold the essential oil and then a spot below to light a candle to warm the ceramic tray to emit the smells. I LOVE lavender. I think it just makes you feel better and calmer and more relaxed. The electric diffuser would be a lot safer. I also love the scent of balsam and find that relaxing as well....makes me think I'm in the midst of the woods. :)

Had a super yummy brekkie. Fried egg and toast with a cheddar stuffed sausage. SO good.

I will just go ahead and order it. I trust the site, I follow Dr. Mercola religiously and because his information is shared free I'll support it by ordering my diffusor. I'll save myself a lot of time too looking around to save $5 or $10. I like that it'll turn off automatically, a BIG advantage, and too doesn't use anything I have to light. I'm known to forget something 2 minutes later.

Take it easy Bren. As Janet says ... you don't have to do everything at once, a little at a time and then take a little time for yourself.

Hi Janet, those turkey rice krispie legs are too funny, love that! I think you could add paprika to the egg yolk mixture and that should make it orange enough (red and yellow make orange) :) I've made a similar carrot cake trifle from Canadian Living magazine, it's really, really good! I did one large trifle, but the recipe is for mini trifles which would be fun too!
    http://www.canadianliving.com/food/recipe/mini-carrot-cake-trifles
I was just thinking of making that trifle again for Thanksgiving the other day :D
The tempura had pork in it, which was coated in different dried peppers, red chili, Szechuan and black peppercorns. Then tossed with crispy carrots, onions, garlic and bell peppers. I've never had it at any other Asian restaurant either. I've seen salt n pepper pork, but this takes it up a notch. And it's not as spicy as you might think, unless you get one fully coated in peppers! lol ;) Enjoy your Leeky Chicken, hopefully you get all your errands done today. :)

Hi Bren! Hopefully your MIL's house will be finished up soon, no doubt you guy's have a lot on your plate right now! Have fun shopping on Sunday! :)

I've been eyeing those diffusers up too Linda!! Sophia's teacher had one in her classroom last year, and her new classroom has one too. They run an anti-viral aromatherapy oil so she always smells like rosemary and eucalyptus when she comes home, lol ;) I guess the teachers are sick of getting colds too! They seem to have gone down in price since I first looked last year.

I have to run to town after I get the kids from School. Colter is starting a job tomorrow, with a catering company!!! He needs a white shirt, black dress pants and shoes. His friend started working there last year when he turned 14, and he asked his boss if Colter could join him since they just lost an employee, so it's very last minute! It's usually just once a week, Saturday nights. I always did the food for catering while other people did the delivers, he has the easy end of it----no dish pit! Lol ;)
I'll pick up some grocery's as well for the weekend. Pete wanted to get my new car ready for me, but he's having problems with parts. He might be able to fix it this weekend, we'll see. Tonight is leftover Chinese food.

Have a great day everyone :)

Hi Shona! Goodness that Tempura pork sounds incredible and right up my tastebud alley! Those mini trifles are ah-dorable. What is it about mini desserts that make them look so fancy? :) That is so cool that Sophia's classroom has a diffuser in it and very neat she comes home smelling like it. Congrats to Colter on his job. Very fun! You haven't seen your new car yet or have you?

Sending rain vibes your way Marie. SO nice to see you on here! :) Yay! Good luck with your grocery shopping and dinner plans!

I'm all finished mowing and Jim's got my plants in the ground and the wall parged.

Hi Marie, I hope you have a nice, quiet and relaxing weekend--you deserve it!

Nope, haven't seen the new car yet Janet. After guessing almost every model of imports, that he said no to, it only left a Mitsubishi! But when I talked to my Dad and Brother last night, they were both under the impression it was a Subaru. Either way, I'll take an Outlander or an Outback, lol, as long as it's 4wd ;)
That's great you both got the outdoor jobs done!

Thanks Shona:) Cool on your new car!

Janet, I was taking a peek at the Leeky Chicken recipe..it cooks for 90 minutes..it the chicken overdone at all? I would probably use boneless skinless chicken breasts and thighs...just wondering:)

That's fun Shona! I'm excited to hear when you do get it. :)

Hi Marie! No, I wouldn't cook it for 90 minutes. I use 6 bone in thighs when I make it, which probably weigh 1 - 1 1/2 lbs. but I don't half any of the other ingredients. Then I end up with lots of gravy which is nice over garlic mashed potatoes. I'd say I probably cook it for an hour and it'd be done.

The poor Leeky Chicken is actually getting bumped AGAIN! Jim and I went for Dim Sum for lunch and we're so stuffed that we decided to forego dinner. I picked up some little munchies, cheese (aged havarti, looks deelish) , prosciutto, etc. veggie tray, and that'll do just fine.

Costco was a zoo but we got all we needed plus there was a super good deal on a 4 pk. of LED lightbulbs with a coupon bringing the price down to $3.99, so a buck a piece. Awesome! Sobey's had Butterball turkeys on sale and Game Hens so I got our turkey for just a bit over $15 and I bought 2 Game hens. Had to go to Metro too as Sobey's carries neither green enchilada sauce nor Campbell's Golden mushroom soup. I stocked up on both. I use Golden mushroom soup in Rouladen during the winter months.

So fun to see all the chit chat over in IMI. I think it's going to be fun.

    Lol, poor Leeky chicken!
That's a good deal on LED bulbs! My dad ordered us some from his supplier, he's also getting us the LED strip lights for under our kit. cupboards and the outdoor LED motion lights. He's been doing part time Electrical work for my Brother's contracting Business and found a good wholesaler. Anyways, I think the bulbs he got us work out to a $1each as well.
We just got back from shopping. I think that was the longest my son ever lasted picking and trying on clothes. The shoes were the toughest, I think he tried 8 or 9 pairs! Thankfully he's all set for work tomorrow! :)
I forgot to get the Butterball turkey at the store! I like to get it early as the frozen ones can take days to thaw. I can't believe Thanksgiving is next weekend already. The store was nut's here too.
