I Say Sufferin' Succotash Sunday

  • notyourmomma 9 years ago
    Good Morning friends.
Michelle B. Honey, it was nice to see you pop in. Good grief, if your only choice for a meal was a Mickey D's in Walmart, that was a sorry state of affairs. Your temperature alone has me shivering. Ugh on the dreaded blue screen. I do hope you got some supper eventually.
    Enjoy the Grey Cup.

Karen, good call on the boar head. It was the scariest looking kill on my neighbor's wall. It gave Olivia nightmares. Good job on processing all that meat. Total bummer on the grinder breaking down. The investment in an industrial grinder seems to be in order, no matter how irritating. Like you said, better than the aggravation of constant issues. Very nice stash of meat. Ironic that the deer caused the fence damage. I do hope that you have a lovely read of Harry Potter. I enjoy re-reading books that are favorites, it is comparable to climbing into worn jammies with a favorite cup of tea. Warm comfort and familiar words that transport. Wish I could send you the pie. The kitchen help at Toasted will have it eaten in five seconds.

Laurie, nice stack of change for DD. Isn't that a happy moment? Glad you didn't have to work at Macy's.

We are having a warm breakfast before Olivia goes to the football game. Today it should be in the mid-70's F. I put away the turkey stock for another day. I have mushrooms, egg noodles, some cream and some parmesan. That means turkey tetrazzini for the freezer. The sweet potato casserole leftovers are frozen. I think I can make them into a) sweet pancakes b) filled dumplings with browned sage butter or c) sausage sweet potato soup. I have so much soup frozen, that I think b) will be my option. Between the onion soup, the borscht, the Brunswick stew, the greens and sausage soup and now turkey broth. I'm set.

I've been craving Mexican food. I'll have to check the pantry and see if I have the fixin's for tacos or enchiladas. I've got more romaine for big salad. If I can't fix a Mexican meal, it will be pork chops, succotash and salad.

Hope all have a wonderful Sunday full of sunshine and blessings.

Silly picture of Olivia in the jammies I bought her, a pic of the table before we sat down, and a close up of my sister and me.

Olivia's jammies made me think of this musical interlude. I apologize ahead for the ear worm.

COPY OF KAREN'S POST FROM THE OTHER THREAD FOR SUNDAY
    MissouriFarmWife
Good morning. I see I missed several posts last night. SP ? Hi to all.

Wayne stays over tonight so I will go to church closer to home and then pick up Church's Chicken for my obligatory chicken fix. I like the stuff but he doesn't.

The end table we bought fits in the sun room corner, and has a shelf which just fits my laptop. If / when I get a replacement it won't - but so far so good. We need to get another light outside so that at night I can tell what is there - it is pitch black at night and a herd of quiet elephants could be meandering through and I would not know it.

We learned quickly to keep a couple of flashlights with us if we were in the woods. It gets dark quickly and the trek home can be quite adventurous if you don't have a source of light. The last day of deer season I had to use a flashlight to cross the dry creek! No street lights in this part of the country!

Wayne is packed and ready to leave. I will see you later.

Good Morning everybody! I could swear I checked in last night but can't see my post so guess I was dreaming! :)
The wild boar links sure looked good Karen! Love
    http://marxfood.com/seared-wild-boar-tenderloin-recipe/
    How delicious does that look?
That's awesome you ordered a Madeleine pan through Amazon Joce. I had checked Amazon out. They did indeed have some well priced ones but I didn't want to add the cost of shipping onto the pan and I didn't want to just 'buy' something else because I wanted the free shipping. :) I did end up buying one. Can't even remember from where now but I did get one. Haven't used it yet but am looking forward to it. Maybe around Christmas. I want to do savoury ones I think. And yes, I did get a new measuring cup as well. Although for $2.97 I could certainly spring for another. :) Thanks for letting me know about the sale at HH. I have some wine glasses on order there so will try to remember to grab a measuring cup when I go pick them up. What colour is your depression glass measuring cup? I had to google depression glass. Wasn't familiar with it.
Hope the job estimate went smoothly Marie. What movies did you end up watching?
    Will be back shortly.

    Good morning all,
Wow Tina, your freezer full of soup has me envious. I am waiting on a pot of "everything" soup right now. I had a black bean soup mix that I got at a craft show and then added some carrots, corn, ham, tomato soup and seasonings and it looks like it is going to be ok. Sunday just seems the right time for clearing up the odds and ends of things in the fridge into soup.
I will have to look up madeleine recipes Janet - I always thought they were just a sweet item. What would you put into them? We have a madeleine pan so at least that part I have under control.
Both Sean and Laura are off to work for 12 so it will be a quiet afternoon with only myself and Jason and Desarie home. Dylan's car wouldn't start so his plans to come over for the day changed to car repair and probably getting a new battery. That's not all bad because I want to take some time to get ready for a job interview I have on Tuesday and once the work week starts I don't even have time to breathe much less get ready for an interview.
    Enjoy your Sunday,
    Michelle B.

Tina, the "Cards against Humanity" sounded like a lot of fun. LOL @ decorating the Boar's head. That's hilarious! I did laugh out loud at the "Attack of the Stay-puff Marshmallow man". That's awesome! Wow on no brussel sprouts being left but I will say that the one with bacon and balsamic did sound nice and I would try a smidge just to see. :) I think I would have loved your sage, sausage stuffing. I really, really want to try a sausage stuffing but don't know how well received it will be by Jim. :) Cool on the crockpot mashed potatoes. Yummmm on the horseradish devilled eggs. I'm still REALLY craving Turkey. Oh my goodness at Allison counting presents. :( Sigh on the cinnamon ice cream. Sounds like everyone was just too stuffed from the gargantuan feast to have much room left for desserts eh? :) KILLING ME with the Hot Turkey sandwiches. Argh. Nice idea about repurposing the corn casserole, fried in butter with an egg over top! I like that! Yum on your crescent roll bread pudding too. You're good at this repurposing stuff aren't you! :) By the way, before I forget, that picture of the Barred Owl in the ODD avatar is probably the nicest shot I've ever seen of a Barred Owl and I have seen that same picture elsewhere but can't remember where. Nature is just so amazing.
Cool idea on making some Boar sausage Michelle. I've never tried anything like that. Yum on your sausage with jalopeno and cheese. That Oxo measuring cup is a nice one alright. Thanks for showing me. We do have a Target store not far away either. Lucky Bri on the Gaming Laptop for Christmas. How fun!
Karen, the trichinosis thing scares me but it's just because I'm unfamiliar with such things I guess. And I want to ask but am a little afraid to.....What makes the boar a much less clean critter than a deer? That's too bad your grinder gave up the ghost. You sure got some nice meat off of the boar though! I am envious. Goodness at the broken fence. You'd think the deer would simply jump it instead of barging through? It wouldn't be that idiot hunter guy responsible for it would it? (The one that had the open fire) Driving through? (I LOVE all the Harry Potter books)
I am indeed looking forward to baby shopping Kimmer. It's been a long time since I had the opportunity to go and buy those adorable little things! :) Benj is great thanks for asking. He'd been dating so much that I quit asking him about it until things calmed down a little. I was very happy for him as he hadn't dated a lot here. Last night he sent me a very quick message saying he'd been seeing a girl named Christine for awhile now and they were 'officially' a couple so now I can actually keep up with what's going on. :) And again, I'm pleased for him. He sounds very happy and very busy. He's working lots and looking forward to coming home in Feb. I have to book his trip this next week. (I sure miss him though OBVIOUSLY) :)Sorry to hear your daughter had another altercation with her ex. It's too bad she has to deal with that. Super glad you had such a great day with your grandson! :)
How are you doing today Joce? Is it getting any better? Did you end up ordering Chinese?
Another freudian slip now for Laurie...."Bleak Friday" instead of "Black Friday". I hear ya! :) Ugh on Macy's staying open alllll night? Gross! Glad you didn't have to work! Wow on all the people not having power on Thanksgiving Day. That would suck! Saw the lovely picture of you and the girls at the baby shower on FB. It's a great picture! Hope you're feeling all better now today! Wow on Rachel's tips. How awesome is that!
Cool on your trip to Winnipeg Michelle.(Brrr on the temperatures though) Ugh on your computer woes! Yum on dinner at Montana's. What did you get? Fun food you've chosen to make for Grey Cup!

LOVE the pictures of Liv and Lola. Those p.j.'s of Olivia's are pretty spiffy and LOL at the Fox song. Hadn't heard that in awhile! :) Great pic of you and Allison and that huge table of delicacies! Very nice! :) Yum on turkey tetrazzini!
Enjoy your Church's chicken today Karen! You should get one of those motion detector lights outside so that it only comes on if something is moving out there. I love those. They're fun. :)
Michelle, this recipe of Luisa's is the reason I bought myself a madeleine pan...
Savory Chive Madeleines With Smoked Salmon And Creme Fraiche
I recently saw this recipe as well and think it may work nicely too....

Sean and Laura will be disappointed they can't watch the Grey Cup game since they have to work! :( Good luck on your interview. You are such a busy lady!

Okay...I'm pretty well caught up now. Sorry to inundate you guys with all these posts! :) Jim and I had a really lovely weekend. Yesterday we drove my niece and her boyfriend downtown. Mike (the boyfriend) loves reptiles and has some snakes and such and he wanted to check out an Ottawa pet store as I guess different cities have different regulations about what they can or cannot sell. So we brought him to one. (Was a bit relieved he didn't see anything he wanted as it would have had to live in my house for the rest of the weekend) :) Then Jim drove them up past the Parliament Buildings and the Prime Minister's House and we saw lots of Embassy's and the Governor General's place, etc. Then we parked the car and brought Cynthia (my niece) to the Rideau Centre (a big shopping centre right down town Ottawa) where she got to meet up with a friend she'd known in High School that was working there and who she hadn't seen in years. Then we treated them to lunch at the Aulde Dubliner in the Market. Mike had a Bison Burger and onion rings, Cynthia a Market burger and fries, me a Corned Beef panini with fries and Jim had a Thai chicken curry over rice. It was all yummy. For dessert we bought Mike a Beavertail (Ottawa dessert specialty). He got a triple trip with choclate, reeses pieces and peanut butter. Holy sweetness Batman! Everyone else was too full from lunch to have anything. Walked through the Byward market and popped into some delis and things. Got some double smoked, double garlic sausage at one of them. SO GOOD! Then home. Sens Game. Lost again! :(
Made them Poached eggs on bagels for breakfast. Mike and Jim went out for a morning hot tub with their cup of coffee and after breakfast they played some pool. They have at least a 5 hr. drive ahead of them. They'd wanted to leave at 11 but didn't get away 'til just before noon. I packed them up huge cold cut sandwiches for the car along with a bag of chips, banana bread, pop and garlic sausage so at least they won't have to stop for anything except bathroom breaks. :)
It was really sweet of them to make the big trip down to see us and we all had a super good time.
Jim is out re-assembling the hot tub deck after we had the leak fixed. I am taking it easy today and will shortly start up a fire and pull out a book and cuddle in.
    Wishing everyone a lovely Sunday.

Janet, glad you could get caught up and no worries on the posts. Good Heavens, I wrote a novel in my posts yesterday. I'm glad you had a nice visit and were able to show them around the town. Your meal at the Aulde Dubliner sounds delicious. That Beavertail dessert has Fred's name written on it. It is good to hear that Benjamin has been doing well. The time until he gets here in February should be full of festivities so it won't drag. Officially a 'couple'. Hmmm.
I do hope you have a lovely Sunday afternoon as well.

Michelle, it is nice to have the stash of soups. An 'everything' soup starting with black bean would be right up my alley. What kind of job interview, if I might be so nosy? Something so you won't have to travel so much? I do hope you have a quiet afternoon to get ready.

Joce, hope you are feeling better. I'm still not right after all the cooking/lack of sleep.

Breakfast was yummy and we have the game on TV. Olivia said they are on the 35 yard line and their seats are great. It is a beautiful day for football.

NO tortillas in the house, so the pork chops are defrosting for our supper. I'll make them with some fried peppers and onions on the side.

2nd try - I dropped the post myself -- hit the wrong button!
Janet, your weekend sounded great. I'm sure they will appreciate the munchies on the way home. How does it feel to be a great aunt? You mentioned the boar / deer difference....I think we should have hosed off the pig after skinning it. They wallow in crud and some of the dirt fell on to the meat when we removed the hide. Being a clean freak when it comes to meat, I spent forever checking, rinsing, rechecking to be sure it was ready to wrap. Deer hide is easier to remove and they are not sleeping in mud or filth. I know bear and wild pig have to be handled with care, and since this is my first attempt at wild porcine critters, I will probably go overboard on the cleanliness factor. Somewhere I read to freeze it at least two weeks before using it, so I will do that. Am so curious to see how it differs from domestic pork. I thought about motion detector lights but it would be going off every time a branch swayed in the wind.

Michelle B., kick up your shoes and relax. I am home, in the sun room chair, typing away. Went to church about 20 miles away, picked up Church's Chicken, mailed a letter, and came home. the chicken was good, the mashed potatoes were good (not like homemade, but for fast food they were quite acceptable), and I am pleasantly full and relaxing before I tackle anything else. Your everything soup is intriguing.

Tina, your pictures are so cool. Love the spread - such a pretty table! It sounds like you had more than enough food! I'm lukewarm on Brussels sprouts but I do eat them and they sound yummy with the glaze.

I will have to decorate for Christmas since daughter and family usually come up here for Christmas dinner.Youngest GS can shoot his bow and arrow if the weather is decent, or maybe practice shooting a BB gun s the first step in handling guns properly - he still has the hunting bug, and we need to train him right from day one. I think a nice freezing cold day in a deer blind might change his mind but we shall see.

    Hello all
Made turkey pot pie from the leftovers. Cheated and used store brand crusts lol I posted a picture of the pies on facebook and someone commented wow your crusts look awesome. Should I confess ?
Went to a flea market this morning, they used to have knock off north faces and Ugg boats but they got busted by the FBI so they had a lot of pocketbooks and scarves and such. Rachel got three hats for $10. One for herself and the other two are Christmas gifts.

Morning!! Tina you have got enough meals frozen for an army! Lol! Soon we are going to pull out the big pot we do drawfish boils in and make up a batch of chili using 10lb. of ground beef to freeze. vote chicken enchiladas for tonight, I have been eyeballing these forever now Roasted Chicken Enchiladas With Poblano Sour Cream Sauce Cute pic. of Olivia in her onesie, I have 2 onesies that are just calling out for a cold night :) Great pics of you and your Sister!

Hi Karen! Sounds like you are having a time with that boar. Michael helped his Dad clean deer when he was younger and said it's pretty easy. He said a boar would be a different story.

Yum, that boar tenderloin does look delish Janet!! Ohhh thanks for the reminder, I need to put some wine glasses on my Amazon wish list!! That savory madeliene recipe looks fabulous...I think I remember you showing that one to us a little while back? Now I MUST get a madeliene pan! Sounds like y'all had a VERY nice time yesterday! Yum on that garlic sausage!! Yum on breakfast as well. Do y'all have a pool table, or did they go to a pool hall? I would LOVE to have a pool table one day! Hope you having a relaxing day :)

Hi Michelle! I too thought madelienes were only sweet until Janet posted that recipe. You have a good Sunday as well :)

Yum on turkey pot pie Laurie! Don't confess lol! Good deal on the 3 hats!

Bri had a friend stay over last night so I ran around catering to them most the morning. Got donuts from a new donut shop that just opened up down the road, then cleaned up the messy living room. My Dad came by to drop of an early B-day present for me (don't worry, not for another 2 weeks) :) he got me a juicer!!! Yay, I have been wanting one for so long, now my only problem is where to store it?! Currently watching the Texans who are KICKING BUTT!!! WHOOP! Dinner tonight will be chicken fajitas with all the fixings, gaucamole, peppers and onions, salsa. Hope everyone has had a great day!!

It feels very cool to be a Great Aunt Karen. :) I'm very excited. I have a motion detector in the front yard and it doesn't get set off by branches. I think there are settings to how touchy you want it to be.
Yum on turkey pot pie Laurie. LOL on the crust dilemma. If it was me I'd just say they were frozen but just because I wouldn't want anyone to think I'd done something that I really hadn't. But it's really not a big deal either way is it. :) Fun on the flea market.
I have a good fire going and Jim came in and has turned on sports.

    Good afternoon all.

Been a lazy, lazy unproductive day for me today and that's just alright with me! Go back to work tomorrow after week's vacation so lazy day in order! Do have all my
Thanksgiving decorations piled up on the dining room table to be put away. Kaiden helped me with that yesterday. Had wanted to get some Christmas things out but not looking too good right now.

Went to bed last night after watching Gordon Ramsey's kitchen nightmares. Last episode I watched all the way thru was the Burger Kitchen one. Woke up craving a good ole cheese burger. So that is on the menu tonight. Got some Angus burger and gonna make my red onion, mushroom and butter concoction to go on top with toasted buns and enjoy a bit of beef after all this turkey, lol! Not sure of a side yet but will come to me. Perhaps just some plain rice and beef bouillon. Hubs likes that. Simple but flavor!

    Sleep Sweet All............as always..................

    Hi all.

Lauire. I gave up on pie crusts a long time ago. Marie Callender's and Slice of Pie (best) brands are good.

Michelle, a neighbor showed us the techniques on deer, I could not do it all but if Wayne gets it started then I can help with the butchering and wrapping. The boar meat took longer and the muscles had more sinew. The backstrap and ribs were easier to do, also the hams. We just ground the rest.

Kimmer, I enjoy Gordon Ramsey on Hell's Kitchen, but would NEVER want to work for him. Our daughter gets a lot of good ideas from him. I haven't even started getting out Christmas ornaments, but will have to soon so we can get the sun room decorated before New Years -- LOLOL.

Janet, we have a m.d. light on the aide of the garage that we got from Lowe's. Wayne has adjusted the settings but when we have a stiff wind the branches set it off.. When the raccoons stroll across the yard the side light alerts us. So funny.

Speaking of the raccoons, they have not been seen for over 5 months, so I guess they have plenty of food in the forest. Wayne's buddy wants to trap on our place -- I outlawed the "grab 'em and sink into the paws'" trap -- too nasty and evil. Live traps I don't mind since he dispatches them humanely.

LOL Michelle! I was thinking the same thing about the amount of food in Tina's freezer! Super nice! That Poblano Enchilada recipe looks amazingly good. I already had it bookmarked. Can't wait to hear what you think when you make it. Do I understand correctly in that you're going to make up a batch of chili containing 10 lbs. of hamburger? Wow! That's investment cooking at its finest. :) Yes, we have a pool table in the basement (the basement being unfinished as of yet). It's a very nice one actually. We got it included in the house deal when we bought. Who wants to move a beast like that right? :) It doesn't get used a lot as I'm not a pool playing person and Benjamin never showed any interest in it either (although he did start going once he moved to Taiwan) :) It usually only gets used when we have company. Lucky you on the juicer. I've always eyed them myself and it'd be great for me as I'm way more likely to eat my veggies if I can't see chunks. :) YUMMERS on Fajitas. Sounds most delicious. GO TEXANS! Jim's watching football at the moment too. I know so little about football that all I can tell you is the game is between GB and NE?
So if you've already put away Thanksgiving decorations Kimmer when did you put them up in the first place? Glad to hear you got a good R&R day and that's nice you had the whole week 'off'. Yum on your cheeseburger. I could totally go for one of those right now!
Karen, our raccoons have disappeared now as well but simply due to hibernation now with our cold temps.
Just saw that a new Masterchef Jr. starts Tuesday. Anyone gonna watch it? Also...channeling Marie here.....:) "Downton Revisited in on tonight at 9 p.m." Yay! :) Just came in from a Hot Tub. Have a lovely fire going and just poured myself a Bloody Caesar. So good. :)
