Monday Morning!

Hi all!! Kids are back in school and I'm back at the gym. Have some cleaning to do around the house today. Dinner last night at Maggiano's was delicious. I tried their eggplant parmesan and it was the best I've ever had. It was kind of stacked tall like lasagna but still stayed crispy. Have a little leftover but I'm pretty sure it won't heat up crispy lol.

Caiden has his first basketball practice tonight. He's nervous but his age group is 4-8 so I'm pretty sure they will all not know how to play. I think he'll like it! We've been dribbling some with him in the driveway but we don't have a net to practice with. I figure if he really likes this season we will get him one.

Have no clue what's for dinner. Something I can throw together and leave on the stove like soup maybe? So everyone can eat on it when they get home or have a chance since Bri has softball also. Have a great day!!!

Good Morning Everyone! Supposed to be another lovely Autumn Day in Ottawa today. Tomorrow we're getting rain so Jim and I have decided to stay home today. I'm going to make another batch of Cranberry jelly. We did a taste test last week and both like it. :) (I didn't as a kid) and it seems such a waste to just leave the berries on the tree. Tomorrow we'll run into town and do our errands.

    Going to make Don's
Italian Chicken Escalopes With Wine And Lemon
for dinner tonight. Asparagus on the side. Maybe something else?

Jim's just come in and said Wortina the turkey is wanting her breakfast so I'll be back in just a bit. Morning Michelle! :)

I hope Caiden likes basketball, Michelle. I am pretty sure he will once he gets the hang of the rules. Glad you enjoyed your dinner last night. I am not a fan of eggplant but then again I have never had it like that. Sounds like you are going to have a busy evening again.

Pleased you like the cranberry jelly you made, Janet. It looked really good in the pic on FB. I am sure it would be nice for gifts. Lol @ Wortina wanting her breakfast:) She has you well trained:) Don's chicken is a perfect choice for such a beautiful day.

My back is killing me again. I probably overdid it working out in the garden no doubt. Today is Den's last day of vacation:( It really went by too fast! We will be having ham and scalloped potatoes for dinner with some sort of veggie on the side.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Sounds like all three of you had a nice meal last night Karen! Did you end up getting lots of rain?

Hope Caiden enjoys his Basketball practice. Good luck thinking up a dinner idea. Go you at the gym. :)

SP Joce! So sorry to hear your back is bothering you. :( Gardening is a killer on the back alright! Can you use a heating pad to help or no? Oh my goodness ham and scalloped potatoes for dinner sounds good! A shame Den's vacation ends today. But Monday's a good day to miss at work at least and he'll have a shortened work week too. :) Enjoy your day!

    Good Morning Everyone!

Was out of the house soon after getting up to go to the Farmers Market. I was looking forward to it. Brought LD and of course other people are now bringing their dogs and he barked and barked and barked. I'll have to rethink bringing him again. He hates other dogs.
Bought veggies, fish/shrimp, bread, and a pastry. The best deal was the produce. For $12.50 I got celery, 3 huge carrots, 2 avocados, 2 lemons, broccoli, cabbage, spinach, 3 tomatoes, asparagus, and a head of Romaine. The pastry was to die for, had tons of pecans all over it drizzled with a glaze and almond flavored. Bought 2 loaves of walnut raisin bread and 2 small ones of hazelnut cranberry for toasting in the mornings. Also got wild salmon, these huge wild caught shrimp, more grouper, and some kind of fish I can't remember that the guy said was good.
They had other stuff but I bought what I needed and will use. It's easy to get "carried away" and start buying everything you see.

Hope Caiden enjoys basketball Michelle. Why is he nervous? Because he doesn't play or because of the other kids? Maggiano's was one of our favorite restaurants when visiting Las Vegas.

I bet that Cranberry jelly is good Janet. Are you going to gift some? Yum on the chicken, Don has many recipes I like, we must have similar tastes. You'll have to build Wortina a turkey house for the winter. I'm telling you, she's yours now.

Oh No Joce on hurting your back. I hope you feel better soon. Do you have a heating pad you can use?

Tonight will be ... you guessed it ... the some kind of fish that is suppose to be good with asparagus and carrots and perhaps rice.

WOW! You did well at your Farmer's Market, Linda! I would love to have something like that here for sure.

Oh forgot to mention when I got up this morning DH pointed out the birds in the back yard. It was a rather colorful gathering. There was a red cardinal, a few blue bluejays, a couple of black blackbirds, and a beautiful gray and white woodpecker with a red head.

Caiden will be just fine when he gets over his nervousness, Michelle. With his sports background, he should soon learn the game. I doubt if any of the other 4 year old kids are schooled in basketball, either. They will all learn together. Wishing him luck! Soup is a good idea when everyone comes home at different times. It can simmer away and probably taste better the longer it simmers.

Janet, the cranberry jelly sounds great. Did you have homemade or out-of-a-can cranberry jelly / sauce as a kid? The chili was good, and on a cool rainy day it just hit the spot. Yes, poor Wortina will need her brekkie for sure, but I doubt if she would adapt to a house....ha ha. She is definitely old, so you are being kind to her, which is why I let Blondie partake of cat food for several years. There are game feeders that shoot out grain / corn twice a day, but that would attract many other critters that you probably don't want in your yard. The wild hog that strolled thru ours was a prime example....

Too bad your back hurts, Joce. I was redoing cupboards today and mine finally bothered enough that I sat down until the washer finishes so I can toss the permanent press into the drier. Decided aging is not for the weak! Our garden needs to be harvested, the worse of the tomatoes given to the chickens, and something figured out for the still-good cherry tomatoes.

Wow at your farmers market finds, Linda. We don't get fresh caught shrimp here...LOL!
Cute bird spotting so early in the morning! Our cats want out early just in case the birds do something other than scold from the treetops.

We removed a shelf from my pull out shelves between the refrigerator and cupboard so we can atore larger items. It now holds lots of canned goods, honey (I am addicted to it), etc., and my home canning will go from the top cupboard shelves to the actual pantry so I can remember to use them!

Cleaned the silverware drawer and reorganized it. That took most of the morning because it is a two layer one and I have utilized the bottom section of it to keep an old rosewood flatware set that Wayne adores, can't bear to part with, but would not hand wash for all the tea in China....they can't go in the DW! I think I can safely keep them in the storage room off the sun room now, and free up more space in my kitchen.

The three brave felines spent all morning outside, then came back inside for a snack. AC and Trouble finally learned that they don't have to come in to access the litter box from outside. They were slow learners.

We are not going anywhere today...yay! Out of bread, but that is no problem. Tuesday is errand day and I can either give him a short list to pick up, or have him leave me at WalMart to pick up bread, cream, etc. while he is at Rotary. We had pancakes this morning for a change.

Church is having a 500th Reformation anniversary program Sunday. They expect from 30 to 50 people, I think that 50 is overly optimistic. However, better safe than sorry so I am bringing three loaves of zucchini bread. Have 4 or 5 in the freezer but need to use some frozen zucchini and make more. It goes over quite well but not everyone likes it. Menu is baked beans, pulled pork, potato salad, cole slaw. The beans are home made by one of guys, who is also smoking the pork. The program after the pot luck should be interesting!

Guess I best get going and transfer canned food to the pantry so I can finish reorganizing the kitchen, well, part of it anyway. See you later.

Oh dear that LD wasn't keen on the Market Linda. :) The bread and pastry sound lovely. Amusing that you can buy 3 carrots. At our Market they are simply sold in a bunch. Nice seafood purchase as well. It sure sounds like a good Market! I've gifted quite a few jars of my first batch of Cranberry Jelly already but absolutely if anyone wants more I have it. :)

Be back shortly. Just finished the jelly and I've prepped the Chicken. Jim wants to go for a Hot Tub.

Wow on your backyard birds this morning Linda. Very colourful. I'm not getting my normal battalion of morning visitors. Perhaps they are getting prepped for winter and have too much to do. :)

My Mom served both homemade cranberry jelly and canned cranberry sauce when I was a kid Karen and I hated them both. LOL! Lucky you still harvesting vegetables from the garden and NOM on the fresh tomatoes!!! Yum on pancakes for brekkie. The Church Anniversary dinner sounds delicious.

I got 10 250 ml jars out of this second batch of Cranberry Jelly. Feel good that we didn't wasted the berries although if I really concentrated I bet there's enough out there still to do a third batch. Not going to though.
