Prison Trip Thursday

  • chuckieb 8 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! No....I didn't get thrown in prison....:)
Jim and I visited a Human Rights memorial park today that used to be a former prison during "the White Terror". Kind of fitting that it was Remembrance Day yesterday as the people who were imprisoned were 'dissidents' that the Government decided to put away. Heartbreaking seeing photos of their lives before they were thrown in prison and to learn a bit about everything that happened. I'm not great with Canadian History never mind Taiwanese History. :) But it's super nice to learn. Taiwan was under Martial law from 1949-1987. I'm going to try get some books to read up on it more when I get back home.
Including a couple of pictures for you. Two from the meal we had last Thursday, including the Century eggs (LOL) and the squid mouths and the last picture is of that 96 year old lady that Benjamin was chatting with on the train Sunday. 96! I'm so impressed! :) FoMer those of you who have already seen them on my FB page I apologize for the repeats. :)
Went for Danbing this morning and then met up with our friend Patrick to go to the Memorial park. On our way home we stopped off at the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial and walked around a lovely Zen pond. Always bridges and birds and lots of turtles. That being said, I also saw two rats scurry by. Bleck.
Nhan is coming into town to say good bye to us and I'll give her the ear rings I brought for her from Ottawa. The four of us are going to a nice Seafood Hot Pot place. I'm quite looking forward to it.
And then tomorrow is our very last day here. We're ready to go. But it's been a blast.
Goodness on the limb down on your daughter's porch Karen. Hopefully it didn't cause too much damage. I was curious to know much that Harley was selling for at the restaurant when I saw the pic on your FB page. :) Let me know.
We grabbed a Gua Bao for a late lunch/snack. A steamed bun with some meat? inside (LOL), chinese greens and crushed peanuts. Pretty good.
    Have a great day everybody!

Janet, it is still at the restaurant...he is not being encouraged to go get it (ha ha) and it may already be sold. They have been advertised from $7,900 t0 $14,000 depending on condition, etc. I have to go into St. Robert so will stop in and check on the availability. He is still drooling. If he does get the bike, I will put it on FB with the caption, "Can I keep it, it followed me home." LOLOL.

The center picture looks absolutely wonderful. The memories you have from your visit will last forever. So cool you had an entire month with Benjamin.

Winds are still blowing like mad. No trees down in our lane. Last night there were about 10 deer in our pasture, mostly babies....neither of us will shoot the little ones.

On the way home, a huge deer stood in the lane of the highway. It was that in between dusk and night when it is so hard to see them. It watched until we came to a dead stop, about 30 feet away, then casually strolled off.

No raccoon in the trap today. Didn't see Blondie but he may have showed up later or not come around last night. He is so cool. But I don't think I'll try to get up close and personal - ha ha!

LOL Janet! Glad to hear you're not in prison! haha:-D Love the pics! Especially the one with Benjamin & Nhan with the 96 year old woman:) I agree with Karen, so very very cool you and Jim spent a month there visiting your son and his gf:) What an experience you all have had!

Karen, oh dear on the high winds! I HATE when that happens..stay safe..are there any large trees near your house? There are here and that makes me totally bonkers when the winds blow:)

I'll be heading to Chico to do some stuff for my parents, Rick will be working up here..

Quick question for everyone:) Do you usually get a fresh turkey or frozen? I usually get a frozen bird, but hate having it in my one and only fridge to thaw for days...I'm leaning toward a fresh turkey this year...

Have a lovely day..it seems like Monday since we goofed off yesterday!

    Dinner???????

It is very cool you have been able to spend a whole month there visiting with Ben and Nhan, Janet. I am sure Nhan will like the earrings you brought her. I love the pic of the 96 year old talking to Ben. Like Karen, I like the pic in the middle. It looks Yummy! Enjoy your last day.
Lol @ Wayne still drooling over that bike:) Second or maybe third childhood toys for boys:)
I have bought both frozen and fresh turkey, Marie. Now I just buy a small frozen Butter Ball Turkey. Fresh is much much more expensive here!
Glad to hear Sophia is feeling better, Shona. I am just getting normal blood tests nothing unusual. Lol my doctor sends me for blood tests every time I see her.
It raining and very dark and dreary here. I think I am going to hunker in as it will be so damp and chilly out there. NOT my kind of day! I am going to make a stew for dinner tonight which is quite suitable for this dreary day. I feel like baking something but I am not sure what yet... maybe muffins or a cake?
Hoping everyone has a great day!

Hi Joce! Yes, fresh turkeys are more expensive here as well..I'm getting a 20 lb, for plenty of leftovers for us and also to send home with my family, and it takes up so much room in the fridge to thaw! I NEED another fridge to put in the garage! I love hunkering down on a cold and dreary day..it's cold here, not so dreary:) Yum on cake and muffins:) Let us know what you decide on:)

Another BTW, we both had Chicken Parmesean at Olive Garden yesterday..it was good, but Janet's sauce in her Chicken Parmigiano is sooooo much better:) I love that recipe...

Brekkie for dinner..Linguica (for Rick) poached eggs on toast and hashbrowns & fresh fruit:)

Morning! Glad to hear you not in prison as well :P What a neat and memorable trip though! Love the pics!! They sure do make the food look pretty, regardless of what it was lol! Awww..so sweet of Benjamin to chat up the old lady, wow 96!

Yikes on the high winds Karen...we get pretty high winds here often being right next to Galveston. Wow on the deer in the middle of the highway, hhmmm not too smart huh? Lol!

Hi Marie, I never buy the turkeys but my Mom does and they always get fresh. I have no idea what's cheaper though, never had to look! Glad you enjoyed Olive Garden yesterday :)

A dark and dreary day is perfect for baking and for stew Joce :)

Went to the gym this morning then grocery shopping. I got the smaller basket because I didn't think we needed much and ended up having it so full it was overflowing. There's no getting away from over shopping lol! I plan on making a menu today for the weekend and part of next week, I'm tired of waking up and having no clue what to make, plus I'm going to the FM tomorrow and want to know exactly what to get and not over buy there too. Pulled out some ground beef and want to make something home-y like sheperds pie or something...hhmm..will have to think about it. Enjoy your day everyone :)

We are getting a frozen turkey - easier to find and less expensive. Turkeys are supposed to be higher due to some bird flu that has wiped out many of the turkey flocks. I found one at WalMart that was .99 lb but since our daughter is getting one I don't really know if that is typical.

Janet, the bike is $9,000. It is in fantastic shape, well maintained, 5,000 miles. The picture is on FB.

Hi Joce - Marie - Michelle - everyone.

Hope you had a good visit with your parents Marie. I only bought a fresh turkey once and I was blown away by how expensive it was. And...it didn't taste any different than a frozen one IMHO. I think I'll always buy frozen....when they're on sale....:) Thanks for the compliment on my Chicken Parm sauce. :) Very sweet of you to say.
Baking sounds like the perfect thing to do on a rainy dreary day Joce. Hope you had a good one.
Sounds like you had a good grocery shop Michelle. Have fun at the Farmer's market tomorrow. I've already started making up a grocery list for when we get home. :)
That's nasty about the turkey flocks being wiped out Karen. I hadn't heard about that. :( That does sound like a good price on the Harley. If Wayne gets it will you ride it as well?
LOL. Poor you Bren. That happens a lot! Some people here write up their post and then copy and paste it to avoid that happening. Hope you had a good day!
This will probably be my last post from Taiwan. We are getting a late start here this morning. Almost noon and we haven't had breakfast but Jim did run down and get us a cappuccino. :)
We had a super nice night with Benjamin and Nhan last night. Really enjoyed the Hot pot dinner. Lots of seafood. Nhan said the ear rings I brought her were beautiful so I hope she indeed does like them. We may hit the Fine Arts Museum after breakfast then come home and pack. Low key dinner with Benj this evening. Goodbyes and tears and then a car picks us up tomorrow morning at 6 to head to the airport. If I don't get a chance to get back on, have a great day tomorrow and I'll see ya back in Ottawa. :)
    Night all.
