Savoury Saturday......

Good Morning Everybody! Overcast in Ottawa at the moment although they were calling for sunshine today. I have a big pot of chicken broth simmering on the stove but haven't thought about what I could make for dinner yet.
My Ottawa Senators won 5-1 over Montreal last night. Goodness I was cheering loudly! :)
Sorry to hear your shoulder is giving you so much trouble Laurie! Nice on the Kohl's spree! Glad Becca got some swimsuits she likes.
How was the pizza Tina? What kind did you get?
Good luck to Caiden @ his game today Michelle.
How'd you make out with your errands yesterday Joce?
LOL @ Mel so patiently waiting for the mouse yesterday Karen. :) Have fun at the auction!
So great you have your internet up and you're all moved in to your new place Michelle B. :) Too fun!
I slept like a friggin' log last night. Thank goodness! Felt amazing!
Include three pictures from our trip. Just of the lovely flowers that are blooming in New York, a carousel/Merry-go-round in Bryant Park where we ate lunch our first day, and one of the Flatiron building. Something to stroke off my bucket list. Such gorgeous architecture there.

Morning! Yum on chicken broth Janet. Glad you got some good sleep last night! That Flatiron building is too cool!

It poured down last night and this morning. Caiden's game and Bri's tournament both got canceled. Luckily it stopped since the neighbors (not the greedy one's) b-day party in a couple hours is including a jump house and water slide :) It is being put up right now and it is taking up most their front yard and their driveway lol. The greedy neighbors on the other side of us are at it again. They invited us to a crawfish boil for Jimmy's (the mooch) birthday. They conveniently planned it at the same time as the kids bday party and put on face book for all the kids coming to bring their bathing suits. Now the neighbors having the party are mad and don't want a bunch of little kids at the party that they don't even know. Much less after Jimmy and Jenna invites us to the crawfish boil they then said they may not have enough crawfish and that if we want to get a bag we could!? What? So now we have to buy a bag of our own crawfish ($75) to bring to THEIR boil so that all their guest can eat on it too? Screw them! I'm over it and definitely not even going at all. Rant over :) Not sure whats for dinner..we have a bunch of leftover spaghetti from last night so that's probably what it will be. Have a great day everyone!

Too bad Caiden's and Bri's activities got cancelled. ROFL @ the reference to the neighbours....and just to clarify.... "Not the greedy ones". ROFL. Too funny. ROFL Jimmy the Mooch. I love it. Ai yi yi on asking a guest to bring a $74 bag of crawfish. That's crazy.
I am trying to decide between Joce's
    Old Fashion Stuffed Pork Tenderloin
    and
    Toad In The Hole
for dinner this evening. I'd also bought some brie not long ago. Had seen a recipe for a pork tenderloin stuffed with hot peppy jelly and brie and grabbed the ingredients, forgetting that Jim likes neither brie nor hot pepper jelly. I don't want to waste the brie so thought I might be able to give it to him in small doses, like in an appetizer. Found a recipe of Corinne's
    Chicken And Brie En Croute
that sounds quite yummy. I might be able to get Jim to eat that. I'll have to go buy crescent rolls though.
If anyone else has a good recipe using brie I'd love to hear about it!

Okay....Jim says he'd like to try out the Toad in the Hole. Should prove interesting. I actually had some bangers down in the freezer and I'm going to make up a beef gravy to serve over top. Wish me luck.
A girlfriend of mine gave me some Wild Hibiscus Flower Pyramid Salt Flakes as part of my birthday gift. It's so cool and I'm very anxious to try them.

What a great game last night, Janet! LOL I was cheering really loud last night too!
Beautiful pics! The architecture is really outstanding there! Glad you had a good sleep last night. YUM! I would love the pepper jelly and brie stuffed pork tenderloin! Yes maybe a little bit at a time for Jim. Sometimes I am lucky with Den I put things in I know he thinks he doesn't like and then he says it is really good. The only things I can sneak in on him are of course horseradish, any sort of fish or seafood and anything too hot and spicy. Your dinner ideas sound just great to me.

Michelle, Holy Crap! What a dilemma you are in with your greedy neighbours! LOL@ your descriptions of both neighbours and Jimmy the mooch:) It sounds like the makings of a good TV Sitcom:) I agree stick to you guns.

Laurie, I really hope you don't have fibromyalgia and they can fix you up. Sounds like you were really hurt when you were hit by a car when you were a child. Do you remember how it happened? Were you checked out by a hospital after the accident? Nice that Becca found some flattering bathing suits. They are so hard to find! I hope your shoulder is feeling better today.

Karen, I hope you enjoy the auction today and you found a good seat. I couldn't stand for hours either! I finally found you on Pinterest yesterday:)

Tina, How was your pizza? I hope Liv was able to get some much needed rest.

Michelle, How is your unpacking going? I am going to see if I can find you on fb to see your Fiji pictures as well. My name is Jocelyn Raymond.

Marie, I hope you get some time to yourself this weekend.

Shona, I can't seem to find you on Pinterest? Under either your real name or Westcoastmom?

Den did the grocery shopping after taking his car in early this morning for its regular check up. He picked up a bunch of chicken quarters for $1.29 a pound which are huge! They will do very well on the BBQ. He also picked up a bunch of rib eye steaks and some boneless chicken breasts. Everything is all wrapped up and put away in the freezer. I know Den is having his cheeseburgers and fries. I am not sure what I want for dinner at the moment. The wooden blinds we ordered came earlier this week and he might get a chance to look at them. If he can't put them up alone Chris will come and help him do it. My doctor upped my meds again and I am getting used to them. They make me feel a bit weird for a few days until I get used to them.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Nice buy on the chicken Den! :) The chicken quarters will be awesome on the BBQ Joce! That's great your blinds came in. Take pics for us when you get them up! Glad your Dr. is watching over you closely. Hope the meds settle in nicely.

Hey Joce, I think I started following you on pinterest!? There was quite a few people with the same name, but I saw a recipe from group recipes on your board so I guessed it was you, lol. When you search there, you can refine the search by looking at Pinners only, that's how I found you. Funny, I got a deal on chicken quarters last week too, and we're having it again tonight! ;)
Woke up to snow this morning! Was not expecting that, yesterday the kids were outside in shorts and tank tops jumping on the trampoline! Lol, I guess that's Canada for ya ;) I shouldn't be surprised, we always get snow in April!
I made Ricotta pancakes for breakfast, and tonight is Spice roasted chicken quarters for dinner with roast potatoes and corn on the cob. I had some leftover ricotta cheese from the pancakes so I am baking up some ricotta-peach muffins, they smell yummy already....This is my recipe on AR that I'm making. I should add it here too soon. http://allrecipes.com/personalrecipe/64380252/spice-roasted-chicken-quarters/detail.aspx
I think I figured out why I couldn't log on, I was trying to log in from here, not the homepage, maybe that's why? It kept saying "wrong log in stuff". As long as I don't clear the cache/cookies I'm still logged in, yay!
Yummy dinner Janet! I've never been to New York, but whenever I see it on TV or in pictures it reminds me of Vancouver, the older parts. Especially the last two pictures you posted. Love that you can cross something off the bucket list!
Lol, Michelle, that does sound like a sitcom with Jimmy the Mooch, lol. I don't blame you for not going! Maybe the other neighbours can charge for any stray kids using their jump house and water slide ;)

Ugh on the snow Shona. Keep it there please! :) I'd love some corn on the cob. I really should buy some from the grocery store one day and try it out. I always wait 'til the roadside stands are out and that's not 'til August. Those Peach muffins sound delicious and boy I bet they'd make the house smell wonderful!

    Hello all,
    Wow on thhe neighbours Michelle!
Love the pictures Janeet, it must have been a great trip. You all sound like you are making lots of good sounding food and I am eating bananas lol. At least for the moment. When I moved in the landdlord said there was 1/2 a tank of gas for the stove and then he said maybe 1/4 tank. I am limited for supplies until my container arrives in June so I have a 2 quart pot and a gas stove but no other cooking things. Yesterday I decided to make tea so I boiled a pot of water and then threw in a teabag and poured it over ice glass by glass to get iced tea. Unfortunately boiling that one pot of water used up the gas so today has been cold food Sunday..
This afternoon I will go out and see what I can find open to get some more essentials like a broom. Moving is interesting...
I hope to be able to try some more local food cooking and then I will be able to use the fresh produce that is all over the place here. There is the big market down at the port but there are random roadside markets everywhere too. Mostly a few crates and a tarp over for a roof and then someone selling their produce. I got about 20 bananas yesterday for $1 which is about 60 cents at home and they are delicious. Bell peppers are another story. They don't grow here so they are imported and cost almost $20 for a kilogram which, even with conversion is not a great price.
Apparently there is a local lady who gives cooking lessons on traditional foods so I am going to check that out.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Shona. My iPad tells me that I have the wrong login stuff, so I try again and it says to go have a cup of coffee you are already signed in. Crazy!

For those who follow Pinterest, I am seldom on it, but once in a while do a search for whatever. I follow Allrecipes, same name (Missourifarmwife).

Michelle, I am glad I live in the country with neighbors no closer than half a mile. Good luck with the cheapo neighbors and, yes, I agree I would not want kids running all over - especially ones I did not know and did not wish to feed expensive seafood! Don't blame you for not going, and hope you explained exactly why,

Janet, love the flowers you posted! Very pretty. 🌷 💐 NYC is a beautiful place to visit. Glad your Sens won! The trap sprung later and Mel beelined over to bat it / mouse and all. Crazy cat! Funny on Jim and the do-not-like list. Wayne hates sauerkraut, cucumbers, pickles, etc. I sneak tiny bits of pickle in egg salad and potato salad, and he eats it just fine. Sauerkraut is a hopeless cause, however.

Joce, the auction ws okay --- all "boy toys" but my buying encouragement was needed.
LOL! I did buy myself a camo black powder rifle, so now Wayne is assigned the task of teaching me how to shoot black powder. It is a CVA Wolf model, definitely a "pretty" gun, which is my weakness. They had a silver plate, highly decorated, 12 gauge shotgun which went fo about $1,700, if our collective memory recalls correctly. No, no, no way could I justify that much for a shotgun! But it was surely pretty! He got a wooden bench for the work area in the garage!

We tried a BBQ place on the way home. Their food was okay. I had the hamburger steak. Was good and ordered unsweetened tea. Their tea is fresh brewed and tasted really good. We would go back again. It was a bit "casual" and had a hand lettered sign specifying no booze allowed inside, but they had a bar as well as dining area inside. Rustic is the word to describe it, I guess. Well, faux rustic!

Ugh on running out of gas Michelle. Is gas expensive or quite reasonable? Jim and I tried an Iced Oolong tea when we were at Momofuku's last week and it was very, very good. Benjamin gave Jim and I a tin of Oolong from Taiwan for Christmas and I'd like to try ice it. Momofuku used some sort of Lemongrass liquid sweetener. I'll have to research it. Holy on 20 bananas for .60 cents. I don't know if we could eat 20 bananas before they went bad but I bet they sure were awesome. Never had a banana that wasn't flown from a very long way away. That is super cool about the cooking classes. if you do them please give us details. :)
Sounds like you had an enjoyable time at the auction Karen. :)
Cross your fingers for me that this yorkshire batter rises as it should. I've only tried it a couple of times. We're eating late but Jim was outside working 'til after 6:30 and then we went for a Hot Tub. Fire going. Still chilly outside.
