Sunday's Sprouts

  • LindaLMT 7 years ago
Good Morning All and happy 1st day of May! Hope it's warming up for some of you as you're still getting chilly weather.

Not much has happened between last night and this morning. Just a normal lazy Sunday morning here. Dog is sitting on my lap and I'm drinking a cold brewed ice coffee with cashew milk.
I sprouted seeds earlier in the week and they are ready to be harvested this morning. I have a blend of Red Clover, Alfalfa, Crimson Clover, Radish, and Arugula ... I love the bite of the Radish and Arugula. I'll make up some tuna salad (Olio Di Oliva Tuna Salad) and when ready for lunch I'll make a nest with the sprouts and put a serving of the salad in it. Healthy is the objective.

Janet you had asked which hand held spiralizer I use ... this is the one. I bought it at the drug store in the "seen it on tv" section. It works best on softer veggies like zucchini or cucumber, I find trying to spiralize carrots or anything hard is just about impossible, thus the reason I don't do a lot of spiralized veggies. http://buyveggetti.com/

Nothing much planned for today either. Will probably do some laundry and clean up around the house. I'm obsessed now with cleaning out my closet/drawers and will probably visit that as well and partake in another little on-line shopping trip to JCP. Will do a grocery store run for a few fresh items and perhaps go back out to the gym (since it's paid for). I'm thinking grilled burgers for dinner without the buns and a garden salad with lots of good stuff in it.

GMTA. I have a tall glass of cold brew too. Very healthy plans for today, Linda. You are ambitious.

What did one plate say to the other? Dinners on me.

I have no dinner plans yet. I'm trying to see Allison. She is still losing weight. Her white cell count appointment is Thursday. Fingers crossed that she doesn't have to get the bone biopsy.

I got a spiralizer that has suction cups to hold it in place. It handles the harder veggies and has five different blades. It even cut up half a cabbage for slaw. From Amazon $29.

Scotty and Olivia spent the last week in Orlando with his family. They came back tanned and rested. His family went back to South Bend.

Charlie got out once again because the yard crew left the gate open. As he was charging around the neighborhood, a man decided kicking him was the best option to greet the goofball. I heard his yelp and the guy kicked him in the side three times and then yelled at me. Poor Charlie has been limping for a week. He let me feel his ribs and I think he has bad bruises. If you know him, he is a big dog just saying hello. If you don't, he can be scary. Yes, he jumps upon you. He is big and rambunctious. Then of course, Molly, Lola and Skippy got loose as well and I'm trying to round up the crew while using my walker. fun times, NOT. Lola has taken to showering with me. Silly pug. At least she waits for me to rub her down with a towel instead of dripping through the house.

Have a wonderful beautiful first day of May. Hugs to all.

Oh ya.....it's May Day today! Thanks for the reminder Linda. We're at 10C/50F at the moment but it's supposed to get colder as the day goes on, and then rain this afternoon. The rain we need. My grass is still brown and the plants will welcome some precip.

VERY NICE on all the sprouts. How exciting! Refresh my memory...do you use a sprouting kit or do them in jars or?

I've heard of the Veggetti. I appreciate you telling me it doesn't work well on carrots as I really want to narrow down my search and get something that will work on carrots and beets and such. I detest zucchini and even turning it into spirals won't help. :)

Good luck on your clean up. I'm going to do a deep dive in my make up drawer. Pull everything out, re-sort it and then wash out the little divider trays I have. It looked great when I first did it but now needs some TLC.

Yum on grilled burgers and a garden salad.

In my continuing endeavour to clean out the freezer I thawed a
    Toasted Mushroom Bread
for our lunch and took out some chicken thighs. Had a container of some leftover Balsamic Chicken gravy so am thawing that as well. Purge, purge, purge. :)

Will play around on Ancestry and my family tree today and am also trying to get "Travelling to Infinity" by Jane Hawking read by Tuesday for my Book Chat at the library.

What did you buy at the Auction Karen? Hope Fritz let you sleep despite all his pent up energy. :)

Wishing everyone a lovely Sunday. We had Toasted Western sandwiches for brekkie.

HEY TINA!!!! YAY! So nice to see you. SP GF! What brand is your Spiralizer? The one I have that is a dud also has suction cup feet which is nice and it sure holds it in place. The crank handle just doesn't work. :( Nice on the vacay for Liv and Scotty. Sending prayers to Allison. Cancer so sucks. Sorry also to hear about Charlie and hope he feels all better asap. LOL @ Lola showering. :)

Brieftons Five Blade spiralizer. It worked on sweet potatoes, curly and shred for the cabbage. I haven't tried carrots or beets.

Fritz ate the hearing aide?? Oh no. Charlie had a penchant for remote controls.

    Michelle, happy belated anniversary.

Joce, I'd be needing an adult libation too.

Janet, thanks for the Good thoughts for Allison. I'm trying to convince her to drink Ensure. Her clothes are falling off her. We might go out for a burger at the Bon Aire with Olivia this afternoon.

All the talk of closet purging should inspire me. I have many work outfits but very few casual things. I bet someone could benefit from the work stuff. Fred used to take my clothes to the Boley Manor for the social workers to give to their clients. He would joke that he "saw" me at work, nope not me, just my clothes.

The Briefton's Spiralizer looks EXACTLY like my Paderno one. It's possible there's just a defect in my crank handle. I'll try exchange it for another one and then if I have problems with it, I'll just return it and go look for something else. I'm sure your work clothes would be much appreciated by someone Tina. I still chuckle when I remember that woman you used to work with that always wanted your clothing. LOL. :)

Janet, I was thinking of her too. LaKendra wanted the clothes off my back and my shoes off my feet. Lol, I'm friends with her on FB and I should ask if she is interested in my dressy tops. She didn't wear dresses and I have too many now that I don't work and rarely leave the house. I am keeping my "cruise" wear just in case I get the opportunity to cruise again.

Good luck on getting the handle to crank on your spiralizer. Olivia is addicted to the zucchini noodles Alfredo. Your worst nightmare. Lol :-)

Allison has dropped from a size 16 to a size 6. She is painfully thin and it reminds me of Freddie. FB memories from two years ago are so hard to revisit. He was recovering from the heart attack and his memories were scrambled and he was cranky and so demanding. Yep, Freddie was a tough patient, really impatient patient. Had to love him anyway. :-) Lord, I do miss Mr. Cranky.

Allison just cancelled our outing, she is too tired. Shoot, there goes my excuse to avoid laundry. Wonder if I can walk the long walk by myself to Olivia's Tiki Bar? Hmmm, walking longer distances is a goal. The promise of a sunset on the beach is appealing. And an adult beverage is enticing. :-)

Morning! Linda, I would LOVE to grow my own sprouted seeds. I really need to look into that. A while back I watched a couple of Youtube videos on it, but too long ago for me to remember what I watched lol. I haven’t had tuna in forever, love the sound of your non-mayo based recipe :)

Ugh on the man kicking Charlie. Poor puppy :( Lol at Lola showering with you :P

I have a Paderno as well Janet, no problem with my crank handle though. I think the only thing I could complain about is the suction cups don’t stick to my counter well, but that could be because my counter tops are granite? But it does spiralize pretty much anything, I’ve done carrots (they have to be big), beets, sweet potatoes etc. with no problem. Toasted Mushroom Bread looks so good, I’ve had it bookmarked for a while :)

Well Allstars tournaments are pretty tough! It rained in the morning so all the games got pushed WAY back. Our last game was at 9:45! We played so good, all the games were close, but we only won 1 out of 4 games. We are a brand new team though, and have barely had any play time together, so hopefully we get better after some practice together. Taking the kids to Cici’s today then going to do a little shopping. Have no clue what’s for dinner..need to dig through the freezer. Have a great day everyone!

I know when my Dad was going through Chemo food just didn't taste good to him and he was nauseous a lot so I can see why cancer patients lose weight. :( Liv's Tiki Bar is within walking distance of your place? Handy for her! It'd be dangerous for me. I'd be there ALL the time. :)

Oh my goodness at the 9:45 game Michelle. Unreal! I'm guessing Cici's is a restaurant? Have fun shopping.

It's pouring outside and Jim is trying to finish up some raking in the front yard. Determination is his middle name. :)

Oh! Does anyone watch "Outlander"? I was chatting to Jim's cousin yesterday. She's a huge fan and gets together with a couple of her girlfriends to watch it. They even host themed dinners and cocktail evenings around it. Her friend is the chef that cooks all the recipes on this Outlander Kitchen site. Kind of fun. :)

Hello all! Taking a quick break from kitchen reno, or kitchen disaster!! Ugh, long story I'll get into another time!

Hi Linda, I love cashew milk--I have it every morning in my granola or cereal. Good luck cleaning out your clothes :)

Janet, I have this hand held one--https://www.amazon.ca/Very-Healthy-Spiral-Slicer-Spiralizer/dp/B00P2MF646/ref=pd_cp_79_1/188-2933903-2190947?ie=UTF8&refRID=DN3VS3P4DCVM4AC50KAV--------It's good quality, compact, and does carrots well and is easy to clean.
I love Outlander! I always look forward to watching it! A themed dinner party sounds like so much fun! :)

Hi Tina!! Oh no, poor Charlie! I'd love to go over and kick that guy back--ugh--So sorry Allison is having a rough time, sending her healing thoughts and prayers. Too bad she's not feeling up to going out , is there anyone else you go out for a drink with? Haha, I'm with you on avoiding laundry! ;)

Hi Michelle, wow sounds like you've had a busy weekend! Happy Belated anniversary!! Did you and Michael find time to go out or do anything?

Goodness on the driveway and vehicle damage Joce!! What a headache, I don't blame you for being angry and upset over that, I'd be livid. Hopefully everything will work out :)

I'm jealous of everyone's meal plans! I have no kitchen---I can get to the stove, fridge and microwave. But no sink, dishwasher or countertops! The kitchen has hit some snags, so my plan of having water today might not happen :( I do have a leftover rotisserie chicken and some frozen burgers, plenty of salad. Will see what today brings! Wish me luck for getting a sink in today! ;)

    Have a great May Day!

Oh Tina!! I would clobber anyone who kicks my dog. No reason to kick/hit a dog whose friendly and a neighbor should know this. Geesh!

I have three rounds grooved trays that I bought as a kit for sprouting Janet. Make it easy, at least I think so. Got the kit from mountainroseherbs.com

Michelle, any team that makes it to AllStars and has the chance to play should still be proud of themselves for getting there in the first place. Good Job Girls!!

Shona, I would say treat yourself to some take out or go out ... the best part is the clean up which there is none.

Olivia's Tiki Bar is on St Petersburg Beach, less than five mile drive...the tiki bar is a looong walk from parking and over wobbly sandy terrain. I'd need adult assistance walking in sand, imagine the walk after an adult beverage. Although I doubt I could lean on Allison anyway, she is a feather. I'm afraid I've been such an introvert there isn't a GF to call spur of the moment.

Shona, I second Linda's suggestion on supper. No clean up or stress during remodeling.

Linda, thanks for the link on the sprout kit. I'm giving up on annuals in the courtyard. I'm looking to plant cactus instead or silk...I'm tired of killing innocent flowers and herbs. A few years ago I had a green thumb....not so much now.

I was very angry over the kicking episode and happy Olivia was in Orlando. I'd probably get into a fight with the guy if I didn't have three more dogs to round up out of the street.

Decided to make some hard cooked eggs for a chef salad. Nice and cool supper.

Oh no on the kitchen troubles Shona. Sending good vibes. :) Thanks for the link to your spiralizer. I have all fingers and toes crossed you get your sink in. :)

Peeked at the Mountainroseherbs website Linda but didn't see your seed trays. No matter. I was just curious. I'm still deciding which ones I should buy if any.

Yum on your Chef Salad Tina. You know the meme you put on your FB page yesterday about Scotch on the rocks? That's the main character in Outlander.

    Hi all.
I was not feeling well so stayed home today. Hate UTI's! Life goes on. Hoping it clears up since I don't think doctors can do much for them. Fritz is on my lap after finding a hearing aid batter to chew and making me snag it from him. Wayne has appt. Tuesday to order a new hearing aid after his goony dog demolished one.

Janet, it is warm out and sunny. I thing rain is due tomorrow.....maybe. Good luck on the spiralizer search.

Wow on the late games, Michelle. You have certainly been busy!

Linda, the coffee drink sounds refreshing. Burgers and a salad are always a good choice. Since Wayne is staying over, I am fixing either cod or beef liver, probably liver. Maybe a baked potato to go with. I usually bake liver with bacon over it. It can cook while I feed horses and get the eggs.

Oh, kitchen Reno can be a real pain, Shona. We had the living room full of furniture fron kitchen and dining room, the range stood in the center of the floor, and cooking was done on a hot plate. So fun washing dishes in a large mixing bow on the bathroom sink. (NOT the most sanitary method.)

Glad to hear from you, Tina. I am so sorry that Allison is not doing well. Hate cancer!
Shame on the guy kicking Charlie. Poor dog. And shame on the yard crew leaving the gate open. Yes,walking in sand is not the most steady trek.

I guess I better go do chores after walking Fritz, or maybe tie him when I go into the hen house. He is a lively little pooch.

Karen please call or go to the doctor. UTIs can go up into the kidneys if not treated. There are several scripts that can be prescribed to knock them out. In the past I've tried home remedies with no success ... preventing one is one thing, curing one is another and a lot harder without something pharmaceutical.

Being I'm sprouting for just me I find one tray yields plenty, sometimes I use two but only stack to get them started creating a greenhouse effect. Once the seeds burst open I leave the sprouts exposed to air and don't stack. They are pretty easy to use and I've gotten plenty of use out of them. I like the grooved bottoms and find it helpful.

I'm with Linda, Karen, please check with doctor on UTI. I got one from the antibiotics for the cellulitis, and then had to cure it. Fritz sounds like a handful. Wish I could be there to share your dinner. Yum. My salad was on the skimpy side.
