Sunday's Thanksgiving Turkey.....

  • chuckieb 6 years ago
Good Morning Everyone. The sun is out at the moment although we had a pretty hard rain a little earlier. Supposed to be a mix of sun and clouds today with a high of 23C/73F.

Today is Thanksgiving Sunday in Canada. I'm doing my Turkey dinner today with all the trimmings. We generally don't eat 'til 7:30 or 8 p.m. but the last few years we've been doing our Thanksgiving dinner earlier, around 5'ish and just eating something small or an appy for lunch. That way all the mess is out of the way and cleaned up and if we get hungry later on there is plenty to munch on in the fridge. I'm making Roast Turkey, Mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, roast beets or I may make
    Beet Salad With Tarragon Dressing
some cooked carrots for Jim and I think that's it. I'm also going to get a batch of Frankieanne's
Slow Cooker Bean And Bacon Soup
going. It'll be ready later on this evening. Love the smell when it's cooking and combine that with the turkey and what not and I'm just going to be drawing deep breaths all day long.

Got to Skype with my Mom again last night at the hospital and she's doing fantastically. Very proud of her.

To those in Canada "Happy Thanksgiving", and to everyone else....may your Sunday be a most lovely one.

    Happy Thanksgiving Canada!

I am so glad your Mom is doing so well Janet..be sure to tell her we are all thinking of her.
The bean soup sounds so good!

I see the escort thing is back..I am so tired of seeing that crud..I wish someone would monitor this site..

Everyone have a lovely day! We're having leftover spaghetti etc for dinner..I wish I would have had the ingredients for Joce's Joces Spaghetti Sauce yesterday when I made dinner!!!! I LOVE the ingredients in her recipe:)

Happy Thanksgiving, Janet! We are having our turkey today as well. Turkey, mashed potatoes, mashed (rutabaga) turnip, stuffing and gravy and maybe some peas for Dennis. Very pleased to hear your Mom is doing so well. Also glad she has visitors too.

Wishing everyone from Canada a very Happy Thanksgiving and to everyone else a very pleasant Sunday.

Yum on Spaghetti for dinner Marie. I haven't made that in a while and should short list it. Hope you and Rick are having a nice quiet relaxing weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving Joce. Does Den like the mashed turnip? I am SO lucky to have such a great family who jump right in when Mom has troubles. I do feel blessed. Really enjoyed your pork schnitzel last night. Once I get my kitchen straightened out I'll come and do a review on IMIll.

I can hardly wait for our Thanksgiving Joce, love your dinner plans..nothing like roast turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy...I have never had turnips! I'll have to try them..maybe for our Thanksgiving:)

Janet, Rick had a job yesterday, in Chico, broken springs he wanted to get repaired so they could use their garage door...today, he's going to do a quick "missing 1 roller" job up here close to us so he doesn't have to worry about fitting them in tomorrow when he's doing a door & opener install..so, relaxing weekend..eh...sortof!

Hi, Marie! Too bad Rick is working! Thanks for posting. They just don't get it. Obviously, they aren't that good or they would be too busy to post their crap here.

Hi Joce:) They are barking up the wrong tree here with their crap Escort Service..I'm pretty sure there ARE sites out there for their kind of advertising..and yes, I agree, they aren't that good...I mean posting on a recipe site for bloody hell sakes...sigh
Rick should be just a few minutes, unless it's worse than they said...the door could be all crooked in the opening about ready to fall down for all we know:) LOL He has to load a 16' x 8' PVC insulated door with a glass section for tomorrows job..I help with reg doors without insulation and glass cause they are lighter, but can't do the heavier doors..he has a friend down the street who helps with these doors..we of course tip him, he doesn't always accept, but we appreciate his help:)

Den loves mashed turnip, Janet. His family always served it with turkey. My family did as well.

Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian Friends!! Eat well and be happy!

Your turkey dinner sounds perfect Janet! and yum too on bean and bacon soup. Still a little too warm here for such a hearty/wholesome soup but maybe soon. That's great you got to Skype with your mom and that she is doing well.

Your turkey dinner sounds perfect too Joce! As long as there is turkey, stuffing, and gravy you have my attention. Anything for dessert?

I think the escort thing will always be there Marie. I just ignore it. It's so stupid, do they really think advertising here does anything? It's probably a scam anyhow.

Made pizza again for lunch today and the taste is fabulous. I tried pre-baking the dough for a bit so it would be crunchier but once the cheese and sauce went on it got doughy. I think the problem is my cheese. It's too moist, I have a hard time even grating it. I'll switch to the part skim version which might have a lower moisture content. To be continued ...
We ate out last night and it was gooooood! Went to Bonefish Grill and had their house salad (which is fabulous) with grilled salmon. DH had Chilean Sea Bass and we shared a pumpkin crème brulle for dessert.

Will make something easy and light for dinner tonight since we are full of pizza. Not sure what ... maybe I'll heat up a package of pot roast with gravy I have in the freezer and make a veg to go with it.

I had gone to the bookstore the other day. I want the book "The Calcium Lie" but of course they didn't have it stocked but I did see Dan Brown put out book 5 of The Da Vinci Code series and Ken Follett put out book 3 of the Pillars of the Earth series. I'm so excited!! I wanted to buy both books right then and there but they are still in hardback and super expensive so I'll wait. Maybe someone else will read them and turn them into our community library or I'll look at the price on Kindle. Either way I'm waiting for the $$ to drop on both.

Hi Linda:) Homemade pizza sounds wonderful! Sounds like your using mozzarella cheese? The fresh is not grateable (not a word I'm sure) but the harder type is...sortof:)
Hope you can find your paperback books..they are sooo much less expensive for sure!

The thing that has me going on the escort thing is, no one moderates this site anymore, before we would flag inappropriate posts and it would be taken care of...not any more. Too bad....

I been using Polly-O whole milk mozzarella but it's very moist, too moist. I'll have to try another brand.
It's sad. I wonder if there is a way for one of us to take over the site. I don't know enough about web stuff or I would.

Linda, I agree then, part skim would probably be easier to grate
Yeah, it used to be such a great site, but you need someone to take care of everything...I doubt there is a way for one of us to take over the site..

I am giggling away over here over FSW's post on the Home Page. LOLOLOL. Way to go Marie. That's excellent! :) I should have known Rick was working. :) Good for him.

Thanks Linda! Oh my goodness on your dinner last night. It sounds divine!!! I myself have never had total success with making home made pizza. I have a hard time getting the dough right. We bought a really nice pizza baking oven over the BBQ but I just can't get it right. My SIL produces gorgeous perfect pizzas without blinking using the same thing. I'm going to have to get her to give me lessons one day. And my problem is just not the dough, the sauce too doesn't always seem to work with the ingredients. Bottom line...it doesn't taste GREAT! Pot Roast with gravy sounds wonderful. Jim has "Origin" by Dan Brown on his Christmas list. I'm wondering if Costco might have it for sale soon? Their book prices are usually way better than anywhere else. He is also a huge Ken Follet fan and has read the first two Pillars of the Earth books. Thanks for bringing that one to my attention. I'll watch for it as well.

    Making
Sauteed Scallops With Dijon Mustard Sauce
for our appy/lunch in just a bit with those gorgeous scallops I picked up at Costco yesterday.

Janet and Joce have me hungry for roasted turkey and all the fixings! The best part is the leftovers. Maybe I can find a small turkey for our Thanksgiving to roast so I can make soup after. Yum!

Linda, it always kills me too on the American Thanksgiving when I hear all the U.S. Group Recipe ladies talk about their meals. :)

Note to self: Do not cook Bean with Bacon soup in the crock pot the same day as a Roast Turkey dinner because the delicious aroma of the Bean with Bacon soup drowns out the delicious aroma of the Roasting turkey. :)
