Sunny Sunday

  • MissouriFarmWife 8 years ago
Today is the Sunday Wayne stays overnight, so I either become industrious after church and get some work done, or get lazy and curl up with a good book. So far the book and the guilt trip are even.

Michelle, I think we SP’d yesterday. When I re-read the post I saw I hadn’t replied to you. Sometimes even when I hit the refresh button right away, it doesn’t show other posts. Couldn’t be operator head space!

It is sunny and bright outside. The birds are chirping. Geezer is happily munching his cat food on the porch railing. And something is making chewing / crunching sounds in the vicinity of the curio. Wayne dutifully set a mouse trap to catch any marauding rodent. The cats ignored the entire episode, except Mell lazily debated whether or not the flashlight beam was worth chasing. He opted out and settled on my lap for a short morning nap.

    Have a good morning, everyone.

Good Morning Karen! It is sunny and bright here as well. I vote for the book and no guilt trip. :) Uh oh on the chewing/crunching sounds.
    I have
    Rotisserie Marsala Chicken
brining in the fridge for dinner this evening. I have a real bad craving for Potato salad so that may transpire as a side dish.
More gardening on the agenda today.
Watched "Interstellar" with Matthew McConachey (sp?) on Pay-per-vu last night. Pay-per-vu movies are up to $6.99 now! Ouch! Jim fell asleep! I found it hard to follow. The time travel thing always gets me bamboozled. :)
    Wishing everyone a great day.
The "Spring Peeper" frogs are singing in chorus up by the pond. A wonderful sound.

Hi Janet. Rotisserie Marsala Chicken does sound good. Pay for View movie prices are getting a bit ridiculous, for sure. Have a good time gardening! Two iris are blooming in the flower bed - it needs clearing so we can give the plants room to spread.

The book is really winning over the housework. I do have some house chores and horse chores before leaving for church this morning. Plus I really should go by the commissary and pick up bread and ????? and cash it for $20 over, so I can get the funds for Church's Chicken for lunch.

Wayne is on his way. The family he usually stays with sent a FB message that it was hot tub weather, so he packed his swim suit. I plan on sitting on the porch / in the gazebo / in the sun room with a book or cool drink or whatever, this afternoon. Today's must do task is cleaning the gazebo table - it got quite dirty from being in storage. Should not take a lot of time.

Homer went outside, so I guess I should round him up, get dressed and get going. Mel is back on my lap, his favorite napping spot. See you later.

I'm herding dogs again today. I don't what has gotten them so riled up. I hear a lot of bird chirping and they are chasing after the brave squirrels running on the top of the fence.

Have a pot of red beans soaking for red beans and rice. I've got a couple of fresh jalapenos to heat it up. Cornbread on the side.

I have a two lb. bag of carrots begging to be used. Carrot muffins? No cream cheese in the house for frosting. I suppose I'll have to be healthy.

Chasing dust bunnies today and a swab of the kitchen floor if I have enough energy.

    No guilt, Karen.
Janet, Matthew may be nice to look at, but his movies tend to be weird. I'll be watching the Lightning game.

    Now I need coffee!!

Enjoy your church service and errands afterwards Karen!
I have a couple of carrot soup recipes you might like Tina.
    Spiced Carrot Soup
    Thai Carrot Soup
Matthew M. is indeed nice to look at. :) We'll be watching the Montreal/Lightening Game as well.
Still playing on the computer. Must run for a shower and head outside. :)

Good morning, bright and sunny here too!
I came on here yesterday, started writing a couple paragraphs and then weird things started happening. The box where you write in went blank, then it wouldn't let me re-write, when I clicked on the box it would open different pages on here like recipes or profile pages, my computer seemed possessed. When I went to other sites like facebook or allrecipes it was fine? It was strange! I was so mad it deleted everything I wrote, as my fingers and hands were in a lot of pain! I hurt myself after cutting this huge hedge out front all day, my two fingers on my left hand are bruised and swollen. And the rest was just stiff and achy. Thankfully I am much better today! I also notice whenever I log onto here that I get 2 or 3 emails in my inbox, like spam. Do you know if the creator of this site sells our e-mail addresses? It would make sense since there is no advertising. I am not dissing the site, just wondering if that's why I get those emails only when I log onto here?
Carrot muffins are my favorite! I have one here Carrot Honey Muffins Wchia Seeds and another published on AR called Carrot Oatmeal Muffins by westcoastmom they're more like a carrot cake--that one I bake cream cheese in the middle. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/carrot-oatmeal-muffins/detail.aspx But since my daughter doesn't eat dairy I haven't done that in years and now, I love them plain! I don't always have whole wheat flour and use regular when I can. The chia is easily replaced by an egg. I hope you have more energy today Tina, take care! :)
I'm finally making potato salad today Janet! The eggs and potatoes are in the pot now. It's finally nice enough to grill outside. We hear the frogs here too, one jumped out of our bushes when I was trimming, just a wee little guy. I carried him over the tracks so he can get to the pond :) It's been years since I could fall asleep to the crickets and frogs, so relaxing. When I grew up in Victoria, we had wild peacocks roaming around. We had about 6 of them near our house and you could hear them caw-cawing. Sadly, people found them a nuisance, now the only peacocks you see are at the petting zoo. We use to chase them as kids so they would drop their feathers, they were on our school field around the corner from home near a creek. There were no predators so I guess they easily procreated!
I'd better get going on the veggies, and get the chicken ready. I'm getting tomorrows dinner ready too. Sophia has Brownies Monday nights so I try and make it an easy cook day. So tonight is beef burgers, tomorrow chicken-bacon sandwiches!
    Have a great day everyone!

Ouch on your hands Shona. I hope your work on the front hedge is done! That sounds nasty. I don't get spam emails much at all and not ones that seem related to GR. Yummers on the cream cheese in the middle of the carrot muffins. I would just die and go to heaven if I had wild peacocks stroll through our yard. I have heard them (sometimes they make the oddest sounds) once when we were in England. They lived on an Estate we were touring. So gorgeous. Both your dinner this evening and tomorrow sounds wonderful. I used to love Brownies. :)
Got the herb garden cleaned out. Still have to do a bit under the front stair that was frozen when I first did it and then Jim and I want to get the patio furniture up onto the back deck.

Ugh on the hurt hands, Shona. I haven't noticed any spam increase lately, but have occasional posts disappear. Usually when I am almost finished with a LONG one. Then I have to re-write it. Grrrr! The internet here goes wacko every so often and I could cheerfully pitch the computers when that happens.

We saw peacocks (usually on estates or public parks) in Germany. We were walking by a small castle (in a tourist area I think) and they were strutting around. A German lady told us they went for the eyes, so we made sure our daughter stayed closer to us and further from them. They are pretty, though.

The chewy crunchy sound is back. Mel went on alert. It seems to come from behind the curio but I can't figure what it could be chewing. Trap has not sprung. Good. It can wait until Wayne is home. A.C. is not paying attention - if he doesn't see it, it doesn't exist. If I see it, I'm out of here unless a cat springs to the rescue.

I stopped for Church's chicken - very good. I have one piece held back for supper or lunch tomorrow and I am still stuffed. O.K. I have to go check on the scritching sound since both cats are in the area and on alert. This is driving me nuts - the last time I heard something, it ended up to be a bug inside a paper sack on top of the freezer.

Then, I guess I better go outside and clean the gazebo table, or else. The book can wait a bit longer, but if I don't clean it NOW it may not bet done. Hope your dogs settle down, Tina.

Settled in front of the Hockey game with a Spicy Caesar. chicken is on the Rotisserie. Potato salad is made and chilling in the fridge. Got a lot accomplished outside and we got the patio furniture out too....... so begins the summer season!
Buds are coming out on all the trees. Love it the first day we can hear leaves rustle. :)
Uh oh on the noises behind the curio Karen. Hope it turns out to be nothing. :) Undoubtedly a mouse would show itself whenever Jim was away on business, leaving me to deal with it. Hated that. :)

Potato salad and rotisserie chicken would be good together, Janet.

I spent part of the afternoon reading in the gazebo, after cleaning the table, that is. If it hadn't been so windy, it would have been absolutely perfect. But it was still nice. A large hen turkey strolled into the hay field, then meandered toward the far end. I thought they usually grouped together, but she was by herself the entire time. I could see the horses across the road, and hear them walking through the leaves in their new pasture.

Had the last piece of chicken, a honey biscuit (probably made with "fake" honey), and some raspberries, for supper. There is NOTHING on TV worth watching, so I am in the sun room, at least until it gets dark.

The sun is going down. The two large, brown rabbits who inhabit our side yard should be out soon to munch clover. They are so funny! As I watched one, it watched me, perfectly aware it was in no danger as long as I stayed inside.

See you tomorrow! Have a good evening.

I too have had a single female turkey hang around Karen. I almost wonder if she's barren? All of our females have disappeared. I heard it was because they nest deeper in the woods. The adult males have also disappeared. The only ones I have now are three young males with small beards. They're like teenagers and just want food. :) Lovely getting to read in your gazebo. Jim and I have talked about building a gazebo before but haven't gone further than talking. Nice on the rabbits.
Tina..are you watching the game? Holy! Nice on Stamkos finally kicking into gear and getting a goal. Montreal will feel very chagrined with that big loss. the crowds are very quiet at the Bell Centre and that's not normal. :)
