Thursday's Travel

    Tina - ????

I may feel like the Dunkin Donut man in their commercials from the late 90's, when we met himself going to / coming from work. I have to buy a laptop for our daughter to use in the college classes she signed up for (first assignment due today), pick up the CSA box in another town, and replenish the cat food supply for the outdoor cats. At different stores in different towns, natch! All of this has to wait until after 12:00, because the boxes are not available before then. Wayne's back is still hurting and stiff, so I will have to go on my own.

Which necessitates putting gas in the car, which means I have put in the zip code of the billing address, which I can never remember when I go to swipe the credit card, etc. etc etc. All important items are sent to a P.O. box since rural mail is the pits, so I have to stop and recall the zip code that I never use. LOL

He is feeling better. He managed to lay on the couch last night instead of in his recliner, but it took him 15 minutes to work around the back problems to get out of the couch.

Sigh. At least I am not working.

I should have titled this Thursday Gripe Day but it did not start with T. Ha ha.

Your banana bread turned out great, Janet. A half loaf is gone already. We are getting more bananas in the CSA so I will probably make some more, one to eat and one to freeze. Wayne's buddy specifically asked for some when he talked to him. LOL.

OK. I have to scoot. A.C. is meowing about ??? Mel just crawled up on Wayne's lap to commiserate. Homer came in and I thwarted A.C.'s escape attempt. The animals are conspiring.

Banana Bread With Honey Nut Butter is on the left. It is a good recipe, Janet. I like that it does not stick to the pan and is easy to get out.

The young critter on the right showed up on our porch. He was scared and huddled in the corner. We could not dispatch him because he was surrounded by cement, and dived behind the dog crate, so he lived to fight another day. He was actually a brown color, the picture is too dark to do justice. I don't remember if we ever saw that one again, so he must have decided to head for greener pastures - or at least less populated ones.

Coffee is on. I desperately need my caffeine fix. It is going to be a long day, on too little sleep.

Hi! Glad to hear Wayne is doing a little better today Karen. Lol at not remembering your zip code, I still sometimes put my zip code from 7 years ago down on things. Once again, love how good your banana bread looks!
The sky is constantly rumbling and so far just drizzling. I have a feeling we are going to get a boat load of rain soon. The thunder has Caiden stuck to me like glue lol! I guess we are stuck at home today. I meant to ask yesterday and forgot, at my FM I bought some Venison Backstrap meat. Has anyone tried that cut? I did a little research and it seems like it's cooked like a pork loin maybe and sliced but rarer? I even saw a recipe to cut it thin, bread it and fry it up like chicken fried steak. It seems to be a good tender cut of meat, so I'm excited! Not making it today though, sometime next week probably. I am making pork ribs tonight with BBQ sauce and roasted spaghetti squash and vegetables tossed in http://www.tablefortwoblog.com/roasted-red-pepper-pesto/ Wishing everyone a great day!!

Good Day everyone! I'll start this post and see how far I get before my girlfriend shows up at my door for lunch! Ran Jim into the Park n' Ride, bought a Graduation card for my niece (the one who graduated from the Niagara Culinary Institute this past June...we're getting to see her this weekend), bought groceries, stopped at the Post Office, got my hair cut, went to the Library, the Liquor store for wine and then the bank and I've just just stepped in the door. Busy morning.
That looks like a young possum in the pic is it Karen? What kind of laptop are you thinking of buying for your daughter? I'm going to need a new one in the next few months and am trying to decide on whether I want a tablet or a laptop. Main requirement is something light I can throw in my packsack when we travel. Now....here in Canada when you say a CSA box it is always locally grown produce and I'm really doubting that Missouri grows bananas so how does yours work? When we used to belong to the CSA they actually would hand deliver the boxes to our door step every Saturday morning. They were great. Jim used to go to California on business on a regular basis and rent a car once he got there. In Canada you don't need to punch your zip code in to the pumps and of course there he didn't know the zip code of the Hotel (not even sure if that would work would it?) so he'd always have to go in and tell the cashier how much gas he wanted, go back out, pump it, then go back in. It was a PIA.Sorry Wayne's back is still hurting. Backs take time to heal for sure. Super glad you're pleased with the banana bread recipe. I could use a pc. right now to be honest.
Hi Michelle! I'm thinking you'd like some rain am I right? Our sky has also clouded up although rain is not in the forecast. Never heard of Venison Backstrap meat. Interesting and the cut sounds wonderful. Do let us know what you end up doing with it. YUMMERS on pork ribs. That pepper pesto looks gorgeous. I pinned that recipe. Let me know what you think of it. I've never tried anything like that I don't think.

Michelle - this is my slow cooker recipe for venison - we use backstrap a lot, or roasts, only using the coarse ground venison more. The web site is http://allrecipes.com/personalrecipe/63861822/slow-cooker-venison/detail.aspx. No pictures are available. I vary the veggies in it, according to the contents of my refrigerator / counter top. The bay leaf really adds to the flavor. The GR group "Venison in the Kitchen" has some recipes that look good, also. Breading and frying should also work well. We really love venison. Let me know how it turns out!

Janet - we bought her an overpriced Toshiba.. She needed PC and Office Student, so w figured if we got Intel 7, this should do her for ages. Confused? You are getting this third hand from a non-computer expert. I can ask her to give the actual specs if you want an intelligent post. Ha ha. WalMart didn't have any that fit the criteria. Their's are usually bottom of the line, which is OK for home use but she had to have more capability. Some were nice and compact, which you were mentioned. I have not heard anything good about Acer and we avoid it. But a reputable brand like Dell or HP or Toshiba should have some nice ones at reasonable prices..

Tablets are nice but limited in scope. The apps are usually not as detailed as on a computer. But they are lighter to carry and when traveling you could probably chat on ODD etc. quite nicely, I think.

Enough - I did not mean to write a book on laptop / tablet selection.

Yes that is a possum. Young. Scared. Lived to fight another day.

It is not called a CSA box but it is sort of kind of kinda like that. They do import stuff that is supposed to be organic, like bananas, but the main stuff is from organic and from around here. So I adopted the term.

Wayne is inside with his buddy so I much go throw some lunch together for them. See you later.

Holy cow you got a lot done this morning Janet! I don't think I could do that! Sometimes it takes me all the way until lunch time to feel fully awake lol! I'm SO not a morning person! I just know your going to have a wonderful time with your friend today :) YES we desperately needed rain!
Cool, thanks for the recipe Karen! My backstrap is small though, I just weighed it and it's about 15 oz. Wow I hope it was just a small deer and not a baby! I guess I could just cut the cook time in half?

Michelle - it could be a young deer - which are more tender than the old dudes. There are just the two of us, so we usually have smaller cuts of meat. I'm have prepared venison, but am not an expert by any means. But, adjusting the cook time sounds reasonable. It also depends on your crock pot - newer ones cook at higher "low" temperatures because of the "food police" and their minimum temperature requirements, so they would cook it sooner. Older ones may take longer. Good luck! I hope you enjoy it, no matter which recipe you use.

Our daughter and one or two grandsons will be here any time now. I quick thawed chicken thighs, put in a 9 x 13 dish, covered with mixture of (ugh! I know - cringe cream of chicken soup), pepper, cheese, ranch dressing, garlic powder, and parsley) and put in oven at 350 for one hour. One potato is not done so the potatoes are waiting and will go in on a baking sheet with olive oil, maybe garlic and maybe not, pinch of Himalayan salt of one kind or another, and whatever else I can round up that looks good. When the chicken has 30 minutes or so I will put that in the oven also. Follow up with a salad and some peanut butter and bread for any picky eaters who don't "like" something.

One grandson only - the youngest - peanut butter will be eaten. He is a picky eater and I do not cater. His Mom makes him try one bite of everything.

I best go finish supper so we can actually eat sometime this evening. LOL.

Tina - check in when you are able.

I may just grill this piece of Back strap to stay safe, it was not a cheap cut, and I would hate to overcook it in the crock pot! Next time I go to the FM I'll ask if they have any larger cuts so I can follow your recipe. I definitely am going to be needing to use my Crockpot about 4 nights a week when Briauna starts dance/tumbling and Girlscouts starts back up. Oh gosh I actually think all this stuff starts next week, yikes!! Have a good time with the Grandkiddos :)

Michelle - If you check the "Venison in the Kitchen" group, or Google venison on the internet, you will find some good ideas. Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will be tasty!
