Treading Water Tuesday

  • mommyluvs2cook 6 years ago
Morning! Couldn't think of a good thread title, so I'm going off of the kids swim classes lol :)
I see that Marie was here yesterday!! I MISS YOU MARIE!!! I have to read back and see how things are going with you!!

This weekend was a blast minus the last game. Umps were SO unfair it was ridiculous. We ended up with third place over all out of 20 something teams. We got our time cut short by 25 minutes in the last game, and they wouldn't give it back to us. They didn't have trophies for us even though they were supposed to, something happened, and now they are supposed to "mail" them :( Not the same, the girls did not get their recognition on the fields and we left there down in the dumps. THANKS BRENHAM!!! You can take your trophies and shove them up your you know what! Let's just say the board director of our softball league was Pissed about the whole situation and let theirs know it, threatening our city will NEVER be back to play in Brenham and they will not be welcome in ours. It was a hot mess with parents being kicked off the fields.

Anyway, I'm done talking about that. Yesterday, all though I should have been doing laundry, Michael dragged us everywhere to look at more house stuff. I know we need to do it, but now I still have 4 or 5 loads of laundry to get done that should have been done yesterday on top of grocery shopping and everything else. We had pork chops for dinner last night with mashed potatoes and zucchini :)

The kids have their second day of swim class today. Caiden is just in lessons and Bri is in an "advanced" class where she is learning different strokes and things. They both are having a blast, Bri thought she would hate it lol.

Tonight will be chicken something. Finally getting the door hanger pics. posted! Have a great day everyone!!!

Hi Michelle. Saw your pix on FB. Cool! The door hangers are so pretty - I envy your craft-abilities....mine are nil!

Too bad about the ref's! Our GS's swim competition had similar problem - the regional refs were quite discriminatory against other teams. Sort of spoils everything for the rest. GS really enjoys swimming -- he is certain he will be the next Michael Phelps - LOL! Sometimes it is difficult to teach kids sportsmanlike behavior when the other adults around you are not behaving - ha ha!

The kitten is doing well at her new home - quite spoiled. I was messaged on FB and her / his progress was duly noted.

Going to go with Wayne and while he is at Rotary I will enjoy the wonderful world of WalMart and pick up groceries for our RV trip. Hope to be able to pack by tomorrow morning so we can just hook up and leave, or maybe hook up tomorrow afternoon and be ready to take off in the morning.

Don't envy you the laundry. I have a bunch to finish before we leave. Have to pick up flea treatments for Fritz and the cats also.

Hope your day goes well in spite of everything.

Good Morning Michelle! How disappointing that the refs were unfair. That ruins a game doesn't it! Third place out of 20 teams sounds like major success. Good for the girls! Awww on the girls not receiving their trophies at the tournament. What a shame. :( Sounds like something got botched big time alright. Oh dear @ parents getting kicked off the field. Your dinner last night sounded yummy. Good luck playing catch up with the laundry and groceries today. Glad to hear Bri is enjoying her swimming lessons. HOW CUTE on the door hangers. That's very special. You did a fantastic job!

Have a fun shop at Walmart Karen. Fun to have an RV trip to look forward to! Are you bringing Fritz?

We got a fair amount of rain overnight. It's clearing up now, but more rain and thunder storms are forecast for this afternoon. Jim is hoping to be able to do some work outside this morning. I need to weed and lay one last bag of mulch. I really need to wash the outside of the windows too. I seem so far behind this year!!!!

This afternoon I want to run into town and pick up some groceries and such. Am going to do a belated Father's Day dinner for Jim tonight. I was going to do it on Thursday but we ran out of propane for BBQ'ing. I'm grilling up some beef ribs, may do shrimp as well, and a beet salad.
    Beet Salad With Tarragon Dressing
I could do a twice baked potato as well but I think it'd be too much food.

I'm getting all excited for Canada Day! It's our 150th Birthday this year which is pretty cool. I actually remember the celebrations around the 100th Birthday back in 1967 to some extent. Jim and I haven't figured out what we want to do or where we want to go. We do both agree that we don't want to go down to Parliament Hill and face the masses. I'm going to do a Canada Day dinner next Monday. We have Jim's cousin and family from Montreal arriving so I thought it'd be fun to do it up red and white for the girls. :) Anyone else got any Canada Day plans in place yet?

Bren, are you guys heading back up to the cottage this weekend and when does your new couch arrive?

    Wishing everyone a great day!

    Good Morning Everyone.

The door hangers came out great Michelle. That stinks about the Umps, seems that problems exist everywhere which is too bad because it ruins it for the players. My sister and her husband coach soccer games and they've had their share of working with bad Umpires and the bulldung that goes on behind the scenes. Hope you get to your laundry today. Great the kids are enjoying swim classes.

That is so sweet Karen that the little kitten has a wonderful loving home and that they are so happy with her. It's the way it should be for all animals. Have fun at Walmart! Where are you going on your trip? Something local or far away?

You can keep the rain Janet. Fingers crossed for a break from rain today here.
Do you have your menu planned out for Canada day? Sounds like fun! and I don't blame you for wanting to stay away from the masses of people. The traffic alone would drive me nuts. Yum on your dinner.

    Good morning all:)

Hi Michelle! Missed u 2 sweetie:) Love the door hangers, you are so talented..I'm not crafty at all:) That's too bad the umpires were so unfair..especially when it involves children...I remember taking swim lessons when I was a youngster..I loved it! You have a super nice day:)

Karen, very cool on the kitten having such a wonderful home! Where are you and Wayne going on your RV trip? (I just read where Linda asked the same question..LOL) I would love to have an RV and just take off!

Janet, how cool on Canada Day! Do u have any idea what you will prepare for your Canada Day dinner? Nice that Jim's cousin and family will be there to celebrate with you:) I would LOVE some rain right about now:)

Hi Linda! I agree, it SHOULD be that way for all animals, that's why it does my heart good when I hear of an animal being placed in a kind and loving furever home...cute, huh...furever:) I haven't had a chance to check back so I hope all is going well with you and yours.....

Joce, what are u up to today? What is the weather like in your neck of the woods? Have a lovely day...:)

    Hi Tina..miss u:)

Just finished making Rick's lunch..I will head to Chico today to check on Mom and do a few things around her house...there are plenty of bird feeders and lots of birdbaths to refill:) We had 2 bucks come up yesterday late afternoon and one did drink out of the birdbath once again..they like that it's higher than the big bowls of water I have sitting out for them! I asked Rick how to load camera pics to my computer last night but he was relaxing in his chair after being in the heat all day so I told him we'd get to it later..I'll try to figure it out....maybe

It's going to be 101 here today and 108-111 in the valley..we will be back to double digits by Sunday or Monday I believe..even 10 degrees cooler would be nice:)

A big hello to everyone...need to get a shower and get this day on the road:)

Another scorcher of a day for you Marie but again wonderful that you keep bowls of water out for the wildlife. I just can't imagine that kind of heat! Is it a dry heat or is it humid?

Hi Linda:) We usually have a dry heat here, but seems a bit more humid this am...I always have water out for the wildlife, more during the Summer:) It's too bad the deer are so tame, they don't run away like they should when they see a human..you have a lovely day! I am out the door, talk later:)

Linda, you know the thing that I dislike most about crowds of people at events such as the Canada Day celebrations....the porta potties. I hate having to hunt down a washroom and then have it be this hot little hovel. Crowds are just too chaotic. We did do the Parliament Hill for Canada Day and even New Year's Eve a few times when we first moved to Ottawa, but now I'm just too old I guess. It is fun, don't get me wrong, but there's an awful lot of people. They block off the streets in downtown Ottawa so you pretty much have to bus it right in. I'm going to do Grilled steak and maybe shrimp for Monday's pre-Canada Day dinner with strawberries for dessert. I have to put up all my decorations later on in the week. I'll take some pics.

Awwww on the bucks drinking out of the bird bath again Marie. That's so precious. Not too many people get to see something like that their whole lives! Have a good jaunt to Chico and a nice visit with your Mom. We have THE most gorgeous cool breeze flowing in from the windows and through the house. I wish I could share it with you.

Hi Michelle, those door hangers are awesome! Great job! Bummer on the tournament fiasco! How frustrating! At least your team got third place, they should at least be proud of that even if there was some unfairness going on. Hopefully you'll get caught up on laundry today!

Hi Karen, LOL, enjoy the wonderful world of Walmart!! ;) An RV trip sounds like fun!

Hi Janet, good luck on the yard work and windows etc..No plans for Canada Day, our little town has a BBQ celebration planned and some fireworks. We can see the fire works from our house so we'll stay home and avoid the crowds! I'll make my Canadian Flag to celebrate! Vanilla Strawberry Flag Cake

Hi Linda, I hope the rain let's up for you today :)

Hi Marie! Have a great trip to Chico and visit with Mom! yiyyiyi on the heat, I hope you can beat the heat today!

I bought a sirloin tip roast to carve into steaks as I couldn't find any decent steaks anywhere, they must have been bought up for Father's day! I have plenty of potato salad leftover to go with. We had pork ribs on Fathers day, Pete loved them but the kids and I didn't care for it.
I'm not sure what I'll get up to today, weather is great for working in the yard. Perhaps I'll do that before getting in the shower. I need to clean the house too as I see tuffs of Husky hair all over the floor, she's shedding like crazy right now!

    Have a great day everyone!

That's excellent you'll be able to see the fireworks from your house Shona! LOVE Canada Day Flag Cakes. I've made those in the past. Buying the roast to turn into steaks is a great idea. YUM on potato salad. I'm craving some again myself. Too bad you and the kids didn't like the pork ribs. LOL @ Husky hair. Enjoy your day.

Done all my gardening. Didn't wash the windows as my hose is leaking BIG time where you screw the pistol thing in. Jim put a new washer in but that's not helping. I planted a day lily I'd recently purchased, finished weeding the front flower garden and putting down the last bag of mulch, hosed down the two front decks and trimmed the spirea. Looked down at one point and out of the corner of my eye saw a HUMONGOUS spider on my shirt. Freaked right out and brushed it off and then instantly worried that I may have hurt it. It was a good sturdy looking one at least 3" in diameter. Phew.

It's after 4 and I just got home, another long day!!

Those door hangers are super cute, Michelle. It's unfortunate that Umps were unfair and it happens far too often. There's nothing wrong with third place but the is definitely something wrong with them not getting their trophy. Both of mine really enjoyed swimming lessons.

Lol @ the next Michael Phelps, Karen. Enjoy your RV trip.

Yes, we'll be at the cottage this weekend as the phone isn't working and someone will be there between 8-12 on Sunday morning to repair the line. We haven't ordered the couch yet, not sure that I can live with burgundy. Parliament Hill is insane on Canada and I haven't been in years. We can see the fireworks from the patio door. That beet salad looks really good. Lol @ worrying that you hurt the spider. Try some plumbers take on the hose, Janet.

    Hi Linda.

Great to see you post Marie. Wow on the heat!! That's so cool that the bucks drink from the bird baths.

I hear ya on the dog fur, Shona. Annie is loosing her winter coat and every morning it like the wild west with the tumble weeds. We have to vac. every day. Strange that they wouldn't have any steak at the store.

Yesterday was my daughters convocation and it went on forever. The first 1 1/2 hour were speeches. She graduated with honours and we are so very proud of her. We then took them out for a late lunch and by the time that I got home I was pooped. I have decided that I will never get caught up with the laundry, lol. Dinner will be pork tenderloin something.

Joce and Janet..Super Store and Loblaws has whole beef tenderloin on sale for 9.99 per pound. Or maybe it's kilo either way a nice size loin was around $60.

Hi guys:) Back from hot humid Chico...ugh..It's a few degrees cooler here, but still hot.

Janet, yes, I am blessed to see wildlife where we live..sure makes my day seeing the deer every day:)

Hi Shona, I did drink lots of water while at Mom's doing outside chores:) That helps to keep hydrated for sure:)

Hi Bren! Yes, super wow on the heat..it should only be about 90...records are breaking every day...so your going to be staying at a cottage? Sounds cozy and really nice:)

We will be having taco salad for dinner..been having a variety of salads these past few days! I just cooked the taco meat so I wouldn't have to later when it's super hot....

I use to do things when I was much younger and could tolerate crowds ... now, I enjoy comfort too much Janet. LOL!! about the porta potties. I'd FREAK if I saw a spider on me. And last thing I'd want is for it to get in my hair or bite me. Accckkkk!

Your vanilla cake recipe looks so good Shona. I know what'll happen if I make it ... maybe I'll make half the recipe though ... half the recipe, half the calories.

What was your daughters convocation for Bren?

Last night I made a small batch (cut the recipe in half to try it) of peanut butter granola and it was awful. Glad I only made half the batch to try it. The recipe looked good enough but it just didn't do anything for me and didn't even taste good so I tossed it.
Been craving ice cold glasses of milk and too made a batch of chocolate syrup last night for an ice cold glass of chocolate milk. I like to make my own syrup because I can cut back the sugar and still be happy.
The rain held off all day which made it easier to be out. Had to take DH to the foot doctor this afternoon then we tried a new place for something to eat and we were very happy with it. We split a shrimp cocktail, each had a Caesar salad, I had a bacon cheese burger which was awesome, and DH had a filet with a rice blend side.

Peanut butter granola sounds wonderful, Linda, so sorry that it didn't work for you. I love Blue Diamond Almond Breeze chocolate milk. My mom used to make chocolate syrup that she put on vanilla cake, oh so good.

Our daughter graduated with honors from a computer programming/web design course. She went to school full time and worked part time and we are so very proud of her.

That's a wonderful accomplishment Bren! I'm sure you are so proud and what a great feeling she must have. I wish her tremendous success.
Peanut butter granola sounded so great, I just need to find a better recipe. I could drink chocolate milk by the bucket but know it's a treat. Making your own chocolate syrup taste so much better than store bought. It's deliciously dangerous 😈

Hi again!! Oh, I really wanted to pop in again at some point today, but it just didn't happen until now darnit. The kids and I left the house at 9 to head to the gym, Bri worked out with me, then we went straight to swim lessons at 11. I was going to head home after and start my laundry but Bri announced that her rats were out of food, so we headed to the pet store. Of course they didn't carry the kind of food she likes for them (the healthy stuff I guess) so we went on the the next pet store. Found it there, but then she wanted to hold the rats and it turned into a longer trip. She almost talked me into buying one but I had to remind her that we are leaving in 3 weeks to go to Costa Rica and then straight to New Mexico. Not a good time to get a new rat, especially when it takes 2 weeks just to get them in the same cage together, and then we need to keep an eye on them to make sure they are all adapting well, they can get depressed pretty easy. Anyway, didn't start on my laundry until 2:30 then had to make dinner!

Caiden started a Cub Scout Camp this week in the evenings. He seems to like it a lot!! It's 4 1/2 hours a night so I was worried he would come home hating it because that is a long time. But he doesn't, so yay :)

Hope everyone had a good day and I'll catch everyone tomorrow morning!!

Janet, I agree about the crowds and the porta potties (ugh!). It is definitely a younger-age activity.

Shona, steak sounds great. Yum! LOL @ husky hair all over. We have Fritz fur and cat hair that form fur balls. The sun room is an animal free zone.

Bren, LOL @ the Annie fur. I LOVE burgundy for a couch! Hope the phone is fixed soon.

Marie, taco salad is super. The best one around here is at Crow Creek and they always have it.

Linda, my GS would love you. He likes chocolate milk, and the homemade syrup has to be much better than the store bought stuff.

Agree that it is not the best time to get a new rat, Michelle. Bri sure does like her little furry friends.

Yes, Fritz is going with. We got some mild pills that should assist with staving off motion sickness. We hope. He has done pretty well so far, only barks at raccoons or squirrels.

We are going to Wayne's high school reunion. Our house sitters are ready and willing.

Tomorrow we pack the RV -- refrig is turned on now so it will be cold. I will freeze some ice so we can have cold drinks, pack some snacks and a few meals in the refrig., and cool a bottle of chocolate wine (yum!) for one evening of cheese and crackers or entertaining if his sister and nephew come up. Which I doubt, but it is best to be prepared rather than not have anything available.

    Have a nice day everyone.
