Tuesday's Travel Ban

Thoughts going out to Laurie this morning. I've read online that Wilmington already has 11 inches of snow and it continues to come down. Boston has tens of thousands of people without power already and forecasters are calling it a potentially historic storm that could bury communities with two feet of snow or more. Gov. Charlie Baker says "The most important message for everybody is to get ready and hunker down and to try and stay put to the fullest extent possible unless you are involved in some sort of an emergency activity on Tuesday," We've all got our fingers crossed for you Laurie. Take good care.
Have you guys heard of that book "1000 Places to see before you die"? I bought it a few years ago. It's pretty cool. So a new Guide is out now and it's called "1000 Foods to Eat before you Die" by Mimi Sheraton. The book took 10 years to put together. Some of the foods include English Afternoon tea and Tahitian Vanilla. Our local paper wrote an article about the book this weekend up in arms that only 8 out of the 1000 suggestions are foods from Canada. They include "Au Pied de Cochon", a restaurant in Montreal, "Canada's Best Cheeses", "Crispy Crunch Chocolate Bars", "Poutine", "Shritziach", "Smoked Meat", "The Cuisine of Susur Lee" and "Tourtiere". When interviewed and asked why Butter tarts didn't make the list Mimi said "I don't know what they are but I can imagine them". "Clamato Juice"? "Tomato Juice"? she says?, "Nanaimo Bars", "What?" she says. Ugh. While Mimi relied on experts in many countries to help her with recommendations, Mimi cheerfully admits she had no one in Canada except a friend in Toronto who brought her a sample of Shritziach (which I have NEVER heard of in my life). Supposedly it's a pastry filled with blueberries. Mimi is 88 years old and a former New York Times restaurant critic. She includes 128 American foods in her book. (I guess it's her book, but still.....) The article also lists some other food from around the world that is included in the book....and one of them is "English Stinking Bishop Cheese". Isn't that something we were talking about one day? (Looking in Joce's direction for her wonderful powers of memory)
Jim has a dental cleaning appointment this morning and we were both going to go in and then after he was done we were going to go to McDonald's for breakfast and then for another cross-country ski. But I've woken up all congested and feel I'm coming down with a big ole cold. Ugh. I've decided to stay home but I sure hope it passes quickly as I have a hair appointment Thursday, need to buy groceries and clean the house at the end of the week and our guests arrive Friday
    The
Bacon Baked Chicken With Creamy Mushroom Sauce
was good last night. I'll write it up in IMI shortly.
Not sure what to make for dinner this evening. Now you all have me wanting Chili!

Oh dear! Just got a call from the Dentist's office that Jim's hygenist didn't show up this morning so they have to cancel his appointment. :( He's having very bad luck at the Dentist lately. Ugh.

Ugh on the canceled dental appt. No fun having a yukky cold, either! We stop by McDonalds for breakfast sometimes on the way to Springfield. A yogurt parfait for me (I don't want much for breakfast) and a sausage biscuit for him are the usual, along with a senior coffee!

Laurie, are you snowed in yet? Wayne was reading about the storm earlier and I guess it went further off coast. Lucky that New York escaped the worse of the storm.

I watched the news pix of people lined up in grocery stores. In a huge city like that, especially, it would seem sensible to have a few shelf stable supplies "stockpiled" in case of such an event., because they are dependent on having foods trucked in daily.

I am sitting in the sun room procrastinating. We have a chiropractor appt. this afternoon, and errands to run.

i'm feeling a little better now that I'm up and about. Perhaps it'll skip right over?
I'm a big breakfast person Karen and a yogurt parfait just wouldn't do it for me. My choice at McD's for brekkie is a Sausage Egg McMuffin, a hash brown and an o.j. :) I chatted with Laurie quickly on FB and it's still snowing there and her snowblower just died. :( Good Luck with your chiropractor appointment and errands.

Yes I did start a thread about “Stinking Bishop Cheese”, Janet and I to have never heard of Shritziach, in fact I can't even find out about it on the internet yet as it comes back unheard of? LOL It doesn't even sound Canadian to me! Maybe her friend who lives in Toronto isn't even originally Canadian? She certainly did missed many really Canadian foods to mention to try didn't she??? Jim isn't having any luck with the dentist at all lately! The poor guy! I am glad you are feeling better:) We don't want you feeling under the weather especially since you are having guests this weekend. I like just a plain Egg McMuffin, hash brown and a coffee on occasion. I am not a big breakfast person and nether is Den. We like to eat later in the morning making it a brunch most of the time for us. Twenty turkeys this morning! Wow your place is getting to be a very popular place for gobblers:)

Laurie, I hope it isn't a big thing causing your snow blower to stop! Maybe it is a shear pin or cotter pin? They are little things which are easy to replace to get you back up and running again. I just checked the weather there again and they are still calling for over 2 feet of snow there and the snowfall rate is sometimes between 2 and 3 inches per hour!!! The videos I looked at were horrendous looking! Take care and keep us updated on how you are please.

Good luck with your chiropractor appointment and errands today, Karen.

We are having pork chops for dinner tonight with mashed potatoes and corn with applesauce on the side.

    Hey all,
This is not fun! Still coming down hard they say til 8 or 9'pm. Snow blower just decided to kick the bucket. The snow drifts are about three feet. And it's freezing out. Really. My toes and fingers kept getting numb even with the warmers in. Taking a break did the back deck front porch. Snow blower did the path before it died and we had to hand shovel the driveway. Not fun!
I made pancakes this morning but I'm sure we burned those off! Lol.
I may make chicken piccata for dinner.
Joy took one look at the snow on the front porch and ran back inside. So I had to shovel that out first so she could go do her thing.

Thanks for the update, Laurie. Did Frank make it to work today? Aww poor wee Joy:( Maybe wait until the snow subsides before shoveling again? I hate it when it is windy and cold like that! The drifts get so high! UGH!

The article said that Mimi's friend from Toronto was Jewish and that if you didn't live in Toronto and weren't Jewish, then you probably had never heard of Shritziach Joce. :( Your dinner this evening sounds lovely.
Poor you Laurie. And did Frank go to work or is he home? I'm guessing he went to work if you are arguing with the snowblower. :) Yum on pancakes. You'd need the energy alright. :) Chicken Piccata sounds great for dinner. I used to make that years ago.
Jim's home. He went for breakfast and a ski but said it was very cold. He's a tad grumpy about the Dentist. :(

That book seems interesting Janet, although I don't think I would eat that cheese! Omg on Jims dentist appt.! Good grief! I would be starting to look for a new dentist...how aggravating. Glad that chicken turned out yummy! I'm kind of a breakfast person I guess? Depends on how grouchy I am when I wake up :)

Good luck with your errands today Karen!

Pork chops, mashed potatoes and corn sound fantastic for dinner tonight Joce!

Go figure the snow blower goes out on a day like today Laurie! Lol at poor little Joy :)

Last night was pretty busy, but we made it! No after school activities this evening though, yay! I pulled out some ground beef and I think I'm going to make something kind of like this http://iowagirleats.com/2013/04/15/healthier-smothered-sweet-potato-fries-how-to-make-ground-beef-go-farther/ Not much else going on lol, just some chores around the house and other boring stuff :) Hope everyone is having a good day!!

    Chuckies Chili
on the menu for dinner this evening. :)
Glad you got through last night's activities okay Michelle and YAY that you can have a quieter evening tonight. That sweet potato fry recipe looks cool.
I got bored so pulled a huge box of old photos out that has never been sorted. Oh my goodness! Started to make piles but I have waaaayyyy too many categories. This is a bigger job than I was anticipating. :)
Heating up some more Chicken Noodle soup from yesterday for lunch.

Frank did not have to go in to work today. It's a state of emergency so essential personnel only. I thought they were going to make him come in but he is working from home. He still has a terrible cough. He tinkered with the snow blower changes spark plugs and got it running again so hopefully fingers crossed it will stay running for the nex tie we go out.
Beccas school already closed for tomorrow. They sent them home with a "storm package". So she has lots to do.

I'm very glad to hear that Frank didn't have to go in to work Laurie. Sorry to hear he's still under the weather. Glad he got the snowblower going again. I feel sorry for Becca too being sent home with a "Storm Pkg". That's no fun! :( Boo.

Janet - https://pragmaticattic.wordpress.com/.../toronto-blueberry-buns-shritzlac.. is the site for (loosely translated) blueberry muffins, a Jewish dish. Snitziach. Recipe is included. I had to hunt for it a bit but I think that is correct. Then I read your post again so realized I didn't have to look it up after all. Ah, so.

Laurie - glad the snow blower is working again, Is it still snowing? If it is any comfort our high was 52F today. Nothing expected precip wise until Saturday and the weathermen are hedging their bets, as they have no idea where this storm will go. Wayne is supposed to stay over but whatever we get I am sure I can deal with it.

    Hi Joce & Michelle.

Left my car in the dealers today after the chiropractor appt. It is still there. After an hour and a half they asked if we would like a loaner car and that it would take a day or so to figure out the second noise -- the first they think is a ball joint. So glad we have the lifetime warranty they offered with this model. it has paid for itself a few times!

    Tina, how are you?
