Wednesday's Wine Cooler

  • chuckieb 9 years ago
Good Morning everyone! A little cool here this morning. 18C/64F, but the sky is bright blue and sunny. Going to head down town again today and try finally visit that Wren Library. My legs are KILLING me from all my walking yesterday but I'll survive. Carpe Diem.
Saw this fabulous silver wine cooler at the Fitzwilliam Museum yesterday. I love old pieces like this. Wouldn't it be cool to have to serve your wine in for guests eh? :) It was made in 1808/09 in London and the Ministry of Arts acquired it in Lieu of taxes. Eeeesh.
I'd love to try that Fig, Walnut platter Tina. As I've said numerous times....I've never really tried figs before. Those trash bars sound amazing and decadent. Glad I'm not close enough to be tempted. :) Too bad on the mild sauerkraut. I've done that myself. :(
How awful Laurie that Rachel's back hurts all the time. For such a young person especially my heart goes out to her. Does a heating pad help? Or those warming sticky bandaid things you told us about that I need to pick more of up. :) Do you think it is Field Hockey where she got the stress fracture in the first place? That's really nice she asked to be part of the team despite not being able to play.
Sounds like you had a great shop at Bed,Bath & Beyond Karen. Let me know how you like your dehydrator. What brand did you get?
They have similar Food shows here in England like we do in the States and Canada but it's fun to watch them with the British accents. :) For eg. "Come dine with Me", and then there's another show called "Dinner Date" where a person goes for a dinner date with three different people who make a home made meal, appy, entrée and dessert and then the person has to choose which one they liked the best out of the three meals and then they treat that said person to a fancy restaurant dinner. Sort of combined food/dating show. :) And there's another one that's quite good too called "The Hairy Biker's" and I saw some of their cookbooks in the book store the other day. :)
    Wishing everyone a great day.

Good Morning!! Sounds like your getting a lot of good exercise Janet!! I'd kill for a treadmill right now, not allowed to do one ounce of exercise for at least 3 weeks, only walking, but I can't sweat either so there goes that out the door with this TX heat. Glad you finally get to visit the Wren Library :) Wow that wine cooler is too cool looking! Love it! Omg I love “Come Dine With Me”! I used to watch it all the time but I never see it on anymore...I should try and DVR it. Haven't seen “Dinner Date” but it sounds like something I'd like, I'll have to look for it :)

Karen, about you losing your posts. That used to happen to me all the time. Do you have a Word Document you can type up in first and then copy and paste? If not Joce told me about Open Office, so I quickly downloaded it (easy and quick) and now I always write it up there first instead of on the GR thread. I know how frustrating it gets :)

Tina, I would love that cheese spread! Oh I'm desperately craving some cheese now!

    Hi Joce, Marie, Shona?

Today we are doing one last Hurrah for for the kids and taking them to Pleasure Pier (I hate the name, sounds like a strip club on the water) http://www.pleasurepier.com/ It pretty cool, it's all on a huge pier that goes out over the ocean with an amusement park on it. Since I can't ride any of the rides with Briauna, Michael is going to have to suck it up and do it lol!! I told her to go easy on him, he can't handle fast and loopy stuff like her and I can. I will be taking Caiden to ride all the little kid rides. There is a Bubba Gumps on the Pier so we will go there for lunch. I know I have posted the menu before but here it is again http://www.bubbagump.com/ Meet the teacher is tonight at 5, then we will come home and I will whip up a quick dinner, something with shrimp :) Have a great day everyone!!

Good morning. I have a busy day ahead but am waiting for coffee. Wayne's buddy is sick so we have the day to ourselves. Some friends are coming for lunch tomorrow so I need to pick up the rolls, a few ingredients for the cold meat platter, etc. I have cherry tomatoes and the recipe calls for grape tomatoes, I may get a small pack or them because they are firmer etc. and with the marinade it may not work , or be frugal and try the cherry ones. Executive decisions galore! Ha ha.

The dehydrator is a Bass Pro carried brand "RedHead" - it is a sportsman's dehydrator, which probably means the price reflects the brand - LOL but it looked like the best on the shelf. I sure hope so. It will get a work out today.

Their food shows sound cool. I would be tempted to buy one of the Hairy Biker books just to have it on the shelf with Morimoto's book. Ha ha.

His buddy just showed up so I guess he is over the flue bug. So much for the day to ourselves. Ha ha.

OK so I need to get moving. Coffee! Coffee!

Good morning ladies..good afternoon Janet:) (8 hours ahead of me, right:)

Janet, wow, the wine cooler is beautiful...I love anything "old"...they don't make things like they used to, it was more of an art, they took pride in making something that would last for many years and pleasing to the eye as well..I have seen "Come Dine with Me" ! It was years ago, I don't think it;s still on here???

Hi Michelle, LOL on the Pleasure Pier sounding like a strip club!!!!!!!!! Too funny! Sounds like such a fun day!

Karen, your lunch sounds perfect..I'd just go with the cherry tomatoes! I'm sure they will work just fine!

    Tacos for dinner:)

Hi Tina, how are you today? I loved the sound of the angel food cake with pineapple! I did a copy & paste to save it:)

Hi Joce! The Fresh Peach Crisp you added to IMI looks absolutely delish!!!! What are you up to today?

Ouch on the leg ache Janet. Take it slow today. That wine cooler is gorgeous. It makes me think of the Wimbledon Cup. LOL on the "The Hairy Bikers" cookbook. What a riot. And Janet, yes, it seems like yesterday that I had the sleep study but it was actually it was late in the year 2012. I'm supposed to have a study yearly. I did see Dating show with dinner....really late night, obscure hours. It was a bit cheesy watching the 3 men trash talk the others so they would be the perfect date. I did like it. I am totally enamored with fresh figs. I had 3 for breakfast, quartered, stuffed with goat cheese, sprinkled with chopped walnuts. I think if I had drizzled a touch of honey on the nuts, it would be even more sublime.

Michelle, I agree with the name of the park. The marketing team missed the ball in naming it Pleasure Pier. Poor Michael, I hope Bri does go easy on him. What a busy day. We have a Bubba Gumps' at John's Pass. It always has a huge line out the door and Fred won't wait for his supper. Shrimp something sounds delicious. Wonder if I can talk Fred into going to IC Sharks to get some fresh shrimp? Have a great day.....and hang in there about the exercise, you will be back in the swing before you know it.

Karen, I love the description of the shop. Sounds very interesting with the taxidermy and ceiling treatment. Love your purchases, especially the ice cube tray and cookbook holder. Although I have thinned down my cookbook collection by 1/2, there are still some special ones that I use. Some are too far gone with splatters...adding character. I'll be interested in your use of the dehydrator. I made beef jerky a couple of times, tasted good but nearly impossible for us to gnaw. Dried tomatoes YUM!

So my fluffy chocolate frosting ended up as vanilla frosting because I could not find the cocoa powder in my pantry. I was tearing it apart in spurts, because I can't stand longer than 5 minutes at one time. Never found the cocoa. So that dessert ended up as White Trash Bars. Fred ate 3 this morning! Sugar rush. Had to laugh because Points made my Trailer Trash Pot Roast again yesterday. And then I tried to color my roots with one arm....so half my head is a lovely ash blonde the other half has a rather skunky appearance. Liv said, "Why didn't you wait until I came home to help you?" Because I don't see you for days at a time, babygirl. The lure of the beach life keeps you far far away.

I feel pretty beat up today. That sneak in the middle of the night with the tire iron makes the morning so tough. I took my meds and now I'm goofy and I still hurt.

Spinach fig salad with Parmesan frico crisps for dinner I'm going to make a straight balsamic vinaigrette. I don't want to pulverize the figs into a dressing. I can't recall the other salad ingredients, will have to look for the recipe AGAIN. My memory is shot.
Main dish to be determined.....meat loaf or chicken something? Lima beans for sure as a side. Funny how one dish becomes a craving. I love lima beans with salt, pepper and lemon zest.

Hello Joce and Marie......I'm sure there has been some SP going on. I think I should put up the card table in front of the pantry and attempt some reorganization. I think I saw 12 cans of Rotel chiles and tomatoes. Hmmm, put a can in a meatloaf?

Well something is in the cards that does not want me to see the Wren Library! I walked all that way and the guy in the Top Hat guarding the College Entrance says "Sorry, the Library is closed today". When I said it didn't say that on the website, he winced and said "Ya, it's been closed all week....you'd be safer to call them up ahead of time rather than trusting the Website". And now I know! Oh well....something to look forward to next trip right?
Did I miss something about Tina's cheese spread? How sweet you're doing a last hurrah with the kids Michelle. I love that. :) What good parents you guys are! LOL @ the image Pleasure Pier conjures up for you. But it looks like a perfect place for kids. I have to admit to being like Michael. Neither Jim nor I (and thankfully not Benjamin either) were/are big 'ride' people. :) The Texas Star Flyer, the Galaxy Wheel, ya.....not happening. :) I'm going to choose the "Shrimper's Heaven" for my meal at Bubba Gump's. :)
So cool on the dehydrator Karen. Ya, I've not heard of that brand alright.
You're right about how they made things in the past Marie. It was an art form wasn't it!
Wow on it being 2012 that you had that sleep study Tina. LOLOL. Me and my memory. It works sometimes, it just doesn't have the time periods down right. :) The "Dinner Date" show separates the dates and they never see each other so they don't trash talk anyone. Sorry you're hurting GF. Gentle hugs. Ouch big time on the tire iron. Oh my goodness on your Spinach fig salad. Sounds incredible! When you say canned tomatoes and hamburger I instantly think Chili.
So we're going to try the Zhonghua Dumpling Place again tonight. :) Says it's open 12-9 so here's hoping. I have a major craving for Won ton soup!

The cheese tray was a memory of a favorite romantic meal with Fred. Saga bleu, gouda, goat cheese, toasted walnuts, grapes, apples and figs. Lots of red wine and music....sweet moments. I miss those times.

Oh no Janet! Too bad the Wren is closed! You are so right, something to look forward to your next trip:)

Tina, I picked up some angel food cake mix and crushed pineapple..I want to make your cake some time soon:) Rotel would be delish in a meatloaf! Feel better my dear:(

Change of plans for dinner..Eggplant Parm..Rick picked up some beautiful Japanese Eggplant at the FA..They should work as well as reg eggplant I would think!

I have to run to Chico, Mom received a new tablet from my sister for her BD and they are having a class at the library on how to use it and just everything tablet dummies like us need to know..thought it would be interesting...I am so challenged when it comes to anything techie..

The rotisserie chicken I got at the commissary was good. I cut it up and put BBQ sauce on it and the guys had sandwiches. I just had the chicken - not a big bread eater.

Wayne and his buddy are going to pick up some stuff for fixing something - I think the roof on his tool shed. I will have peace for a minimum of one hour. Really do need to get up and get some work done. A.C. was primed to escape out the door again - he really wants to be an outside cat, but not possible while we have the two old kitties. Mel is sitting by my feet debating on whether to get on my lap (he did) or the couch. If it is nap time I should close my eyes and join in. 5 A.M. is too early to wake up.

Tablets are cool I have finally, after several years, figured mine out.

Tina - the secret, or so the sales guy at Bass Pro told me, to tender jerky was to coarse grind, then fine grind, then mix in ingredients for the final grind. Supposedly it leaves it more tender. I haven't tried that so I can't speak from experience.

Traded one of my neighbors a two foot long zucchini for some banana peppers. She was suitably impressed by its size. I told her I got 4 to 5 loaves from ones that size. The banana peppers are destined for jelly. If I ever can get it done. Green pepper jelly is god with pork, on cream cheese for a dip, with crackers or veggie sticks. Wayne won't eat it but there are always people who like home canned jellies or who will trade for one of their own.

It is 93 degrees and climbing outside. No rain expected until next week. Wayne mowed one field today and they will cut / bale Friday or Saturday.

I'm getting dozier by the minute. Will sign off and close eyes for a bit before tackling the rest of the chores.

The class at the library sounds great Marie and kudos to your Mom for entering the techie world. I really admire older people who overcome the intimidation of computers and give it a whirl. I too keep meaning to go take some classes for my Mac. Jim and Benj got it for me over two years ago and I have oodles of questions and things I don't know how to do on it.
Jim and I adore Rotisserie chicken Karen. Cool on the banana peppers. Sounds like you made a good trade. Ugh on 93. :(
    Joce? You doing okay today?

Awesome Wonton soup and dumplings at Zhonghua. Turns out they are open Wed. through Monday and only closed Tuesday's. :) I'm working on getting Yelp to change the hours they posted.
Only one day left here. Boo. But I'll be happy to be home too.

My MacBook is 7 years old and I still haven't mastered all of the "stuff" you can do. By the time I get a MacBook Pro there will be more to figure out. But I am a Macaholic so would never give it up. I did give my IMac to my daughter and she still has it after about 8 years. They are workhorses.

Guys are still not back. I sat down and typed on GR so that means they will walk in and see me not doing anything - ha ha. Never fails. I did get the kitchen half way together - the dehydrator is ready to wash / rinse so I can use it. I need to print the recipe for the tomatoes for tomorrow, but will wait to do the others until morning.

Yep - here they come. Told ya! Ha ha.

    Hey all
Unforgiving headache all day that will not go away no matter what I try. It started off small so I took Tylenol this morning by lunch it was still hurting and a little worse took ibuprofen It subsided just a bit and then came back full force at dinner so I took Vanquish which is an of brand of Excedrin. I haven't slept well the last two nights I'm thinking I might take either a Valium or a Benadryl and get a good night sleep haven't decided which lol
For dinner we had grilled chicken breast, broccoli and potato.
