Wet Wicked Wednesday

  • notyourmomma 9 years ago
Why Wicked? Because I'm making Wicked Chicken Riggies. Say what?
Rigatoni with chicken in a spicy tomato sauce, from a recipe seen on DDD. Fred won't like it but he can have pulled pork with Lexington sauce. I'll make him macaroni salad with celery and hard cooked eggs.

The President is in Tampa today. I can verify that traffic will be a nightmare with the road closings for his visit to MacDill AFB. It is dark, windy, wet and although it looks cold out there, it is 88 degrees. The rain squalls are quite strong. The pool is within inches to the top. The weatherman said that we were getting close to two inches of rain an hour overnight.

Janet, in answer to your question. A transient ischemic attack (TIA) is an event, sometimes called a mini-stroke, with stroke symptoms that last less than 24 hours before disappearing. While TIAs generally do not cause permanent brain damage, they are a serious warning sign of stroke and should not be ignored. A TIA is often caused by high blood pressure. I didn't feel well yesterday. I ached all over, just like I had been in a car wreck. Everything hurt, even my hair.

Laurie, your darling Rachel is beautiful. She is so pretty. LOL on the coffee love. I have to get my blood checked for Thyroid myself, but it is too yucky to leave the house today. Good trade on the cruise, I remember you got the trip to Mexico instead. Wise woman.

Karen, I feel for the doe that looked poorly. I know survival of the fittest, but my heart always aches for the ailing ones. Landlubber, eh? We used to have a boat that we would take out in the Gulf of Mexico. Actually, I learned to swim off the boat before I could walk. Daddy tossed me overboard and I paddled around. (Not really, he handed me to my sister and she let me swim). One time, my sister forgot to hook the stringer of fish on the side of the boat properly and the whole string was going to swim away. Daddy tossed me overboard and told me to catch the stringer. Geesh, you would think he was trying to get rid of me. So, no seasickness here.
Actually I enjoy boats, trains, but put me in the back of a car on a curvy road and forget it.

Michelle, good luck on the prime rib. Honey, I hope it works beautifully and is a perfect medium rare. That is an outrageous price, phew. It is one of the most heavenly meal. And homemade ranch is a great idea. Just like a steakhouse.

I'm running out of steam. I have to read back yesterday's thread. I can't remember what I just read.

Marie, I'll pass on the okra too. I like it fried, but I don't like to fry anymore. There is a farmer's market in Gulfport on Tuesday, I'll have to check it out and see if we can get some fresh veggies. Tamale pie needs to go on our menu soon. I'll check out your adaptations.

Joce, we never did find Fred's glasses. We have looked under the cushions, the cabinets, the car and no luck. He is beyond grumpy because we can't find them. So, Den's family never ate chicken. Wow, we would starve around here without chicken. Especially Olivia. Did you get your daffodil bulbs planted? They are so pretty.

Shona, I can't believe you had snow. Oh my goodness. I have to move. It is too bloody hot in Florida.

Janet, I love those corn fritters. They look delicious. Olivia liked my corn/black bean salsa and polished off the bowl. When corn is fresh and sweet, you can't go wrong. Glad you had a nice visit with your girlfriend. I'm sure your friends appreciate your cooking prowess.

Poor Caiden, sounds like car sickness to me. Give him a big hug.

Karen, Fred has a two mile radius of restaurants he will go to for dinner. A fifty mile trip to Texas Roadhouse would never happen in his world. LOL I love your red appliances. Mine are a mish mash of colors. I've never tried a rice cooker. I do like the Cuisanart brand over my less expensive items. They seem sturdier.

I badly want waffles. The IHOP commercial with the blueberry waffles is making me crazy.
Sending Fred off to the store for, wait for it, chicken and incidentals. Allison paid Angie to get my nails done. She knows how much I've missed them. Angie has to squeeze me in her schedule. More bloodwork ordered. More paperwork to fill out.

Better down the coffee and get busy.
    Have a great day, everyone.

Morning Tina :) Chicken pasta in a spicy tomato sauce sounds super yummy! Sounds like you have some icky weather. I would avoid the roads at all cost, for the weather and the President :) Sorry you had a cruddy day yesterday, do you feel better today at least?

Fried is definitely my favorite way to have okra, but I will eat it and enjoy it any way served to me!

Got my morning workout done, thank goodness that's over! Caiden's T-ball got canceled last night because of the rain, so he was very upset about that :( They are just adding an extra practice onto the end to make up for it. Now at least I have time to find cleats that fit him, I can't find his little size!

I want to make some sort of an egg bake so we can have something quick to grab in the mornings, maybe with Kale or spinach and some other veggies? We are really sick of the smoothies and plain ol' eggs and bacon. So I'm researching a little on the Prime Rib and it looks like I will want to take it out when the internal temperature is around 125 degrees since while resting it will cook about another 10 degrees making it about med rare. I think starting it at 3:30 this afternoon should have it ready around 6 ish. I am also going to attempt to make an a jus from the pan juices and I definitely need to make a creamy horseradish :) Lol my biggest worry now is what to serve with it! Hope everyone has a great day!

    Good morning Tina:)

Actually, I like Pat's slow cooker tamale pie better than the one I made the other day..I was out of enchilada sauce (didn't feel like making homemade either) so I searched for another recipe..here's Pat's recipe Slow Cooker Tamale Pie I also add corn and some sliced black olives to this recipe as well:)
We really don't fry food anymore, but at least once a year I HAVE to have fried okra!
Love the sound of your Wicked Chicken Riggies!

It's going to be a busy end of the month, we have delivery coming Friday..so Rick will be busy installing doors & openers..we have a job to do in Orland, which is about 40 miles from us, a small door & opener..I'll go to help..which consists of "staying out of his way" haha Then we'll check on a friend's house in Orland, they seem to be having opener problems...then starting Monday, doors & openers for most of the week...dead slow or crazy busy..sure keeps us on our toes!

    Dinner..what's for dinner....?

Joce, Daffodil's are so pretty..I do wish we could plant more here..too many trees:( Don't get me wrong, I love our trees, but we sure can't plant anything that requires a lot of sun..

    A big hello to everyone!

Tina - Great minds think alike. I was ready to post Waterlogged Wednesday when KABOOM! Thunder and lightning and three quarters of an inch of rain. I unplugged the laptop and set it aside. Then cancelled the cat's vet appt. until this afternoon. Could not see driving in torrential rains.

Mary is hiding so I hope we can find her before time to leave. She is an excellent hider. As soon as Mel heard rumbling thunder he booked. I don't see A.C. anywhere. He is not afraid of thunder so is probably relaxing somewhere plotting his next escapade.

TIA's are scarey. One Dr. said I might have had some, don't doubt it since strokes run in my family. Does he / she have you on an aspirin regimen? I take aspirin in the morning and at night.

The little doe did look iffy. With chronic wasting disease in Northern MO., we are cautious here in the Central section of the state. But she moved about fairly well, just not their usual leaping and bounding. It is a very young one, and they are sometimes thinner.

It is still thundering and raining. Laptop is no longer unplugged but the thunder doesn't seem all that close. Mel curled up on Wayne's lap - A.C. on the back of the couch where he can watch for the outdoor cats. Brat! Wayne left to go over his buddy's place to help him out with something - Homer lay down facing the door and practicing his woeful look. He is good at it. He gets a bath today if it kills me - rain or no rain. His white fur is now sand color from rolling in the dirt, and clouds of dust rise when he is petted.

Today Show just said American waistlines are getting bigger. Grrr! I could have told them that based on my clothing size. LOL.

The drier signal just went off. So it is time to do something productive. I have no idea what to fix for supper.

    HI to everyone.

Hi Marie!! I probably have fried okra about once a year too lol! I never make it at home, most places that do have it on their menu do a good job of frying it, so no need to grease up my kitchen :) Y'all sound busy busy! I'm opposite of you, we have no tall trees, so we have to stay away from anything requiring shade! I didn't first think of Sausage And Greens Egg Bake because I have no sausage, but I did go ahead and make it without the sausage and two added eggs, worked great!

Hope the thundering weather slow down for you so you can make it to the vet today Karen!! Lol at Homer's woeful look :P

Okay I am putting the rib roast in and hour earlier than what I said lol! I just realized it's supposed to rest for a whole hour!

    Hey everyone.
Taking Rachel to physical therepy. Hopefully now that she has had an MRI it will help this time around.
Ugh the Red Cross is out for my blood and I am not answering the phone lol frank says just answer and tell them I got a tattoo or something. I just don't have the time but I feel bad saying no so I just let it ring everytime which is annoying him for some reason.
Turkey chili cam out awesome but talk about a bad memory. I'm waiting for frank to come home to eat, waiting, waiting waiting then I finally remembered he had a work thing he told me about TWICE and wasn't coming home for dinner. Is there anything you can take to improve your memory. I just read online that people with my rare blood type have the worst memory problems but it didn't say you can fix it in any way!
Taking Rachel out for sushi after pt. They are on leftovers.

Laurie, I hear you on the bad memory. I start to say something and then forget what I wanted to say. I wrote the grocery list and forgot half of the stuff I needed. Oy.
I hope Rachel has a good PT appointment and that you both enjoy your sushi.

It's okay to ignore the blood bank and not answer the phone. Don't let them make you feel guilty. You have enough on your plate between the jobs, home and running the kids everywhere. You are allowed to say NO.

I've chopped the mushrooms and the peppers. I'm going to try the one pot method of cooking, where you cook the pasta in the sauce. I hope it works and keeps the kitchen mess to a minimum.
