Cleaning Tips

My wife reminds me to line our baking sheets ether with foil or parchment paper as a way to avoid a mess beforehand and the clean up is so much easier that way.
What are your tips for cleaning up afterwards?

this is not a very green way of doing this but clean up is a breeze...

instead of cutting meat or veggies on a cutting board I use those cheap paper plates... I don't have to worry about cross contamination or clean up.!!! I just use them and toss...

if you have a compost I do throw the dirty veggie plates in that...

I found this tip years ago in Taste of Home magazine I got once, and this really really works. When cutting onions you have the presistant odor on your hands and cutting board that doesn' t really go away. Tip is I do this at the same time.......Take your board lightly wet it with water, take table salt and table salt only sprinkle the board generously, using your hand rub the salt in all over the board then rinse with water as your scrubbing either a wooden or silicone cutting boards until salt is all gone, the dry board off, really no need to use soap and water, but I do tend to do that anyway. There will be no onion smell left behind. I can't tell you how doing this every time I use something foul on my boards that linger it has saved me from wanting to discard my cutting boards. Plus your hands will thank you for the massage and exfoliation you just gave them. ;-)

For cleaning a stained crockpot...Mine is white and after making a few darker things it just looks dingy: fill with hot water and a tablespoon of dishwasher (machine) detergent and let it soak. Looks like brand new. this also works if you have one of those white sinks.
my other clean up tip is: I save those grocery shopping bags and when I am making something like a soup or stew that has a lot of garbage I just keep one on the counter so I can throw away as i go and then tie that up and throw it away..or dump into the compost if you have it.

Those are great tips, when I use the mini oven, just to make a piece of bread with cheese, and I want it melted, I cover the base of the mini oven with aluminium foil, so after it´s done I throw it away, so I don´t clean anything.

another, this is funny, when I don´t have help in my house and we are in a hurry, I give them something you can offer in disposable plates, knives, forks and spoons, maybe waffles, so after they eat everything goes away, ha ha

Lauri I like that shopping bag idea I could line a small bowl with it dump my coffee grounds egg shells and all the vegetable peelings too.
I could grind up some of it for worm food and send some to the compost pile.
I use that method of scrubbing my board like Mis7up I also follow up with soap and water too...lol
Magali I have done what you said before hey this is about shortcuts and making things easy.

These are all great tip keep them coming.

    Cleanup Greasy Dishes
To cut grease and odor on dishes when doing kitchen cleaning, add a tablespoon of vinegar to your hot soapy water.

Clean the Microwave from splatter and cooked on food crud

Take a glass measuring cup of water and the add a some (I would say about a shot - sorry I come from a family who doesn't measure, we just cook) amount of white vinegar to the water. Put the measuring cup in the microwave and cook for about four minutes. When you open the door, simply wipe off the surfaces with a damp rag - all the yuckiness should wipe easily away.

I use a 2 cup measuring up with water in the microwave and heat it for 4 to 5 minutes, and let it cool off with out opening the door, and let it steam out and then wipe it out 10 minutes later. Sooo easy to clean, I won't put chemicals in my microwave. Nothing like that smell everytime you cook something. But never used vinegar, might try that too.

To quickly clean burned food on a pan, add some dish soap and 1/2" of water. Bring to a boil, and then let the liquid cool in the pan. The burned food will be easy to remove.
When food spills over and burns on the oven floor, sprinkle a handful of salt on the mess. The smoke will be reduced and the spill easier to clean after the oven cools. You can add some cinnamon to the salt to help reduce odors.
To clean a blender, squirt a few drops of liquid soap into it, fill halfway with warm water, cover and blend away the mess. Rinse and repeat if necessary. You can also use this method for food processors.
