How to make it

  • Heat oven to 400-degrees.
  • Mix thoroughly butter, shortening, 1-1/2 c. sugar, and the eggs.
  • Blend in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt and nutmeg.
  • Chill dough if too soft. Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls.
  • Mix the 2 T. sugar and 2 tsp. cinnamon together. Roll balls in cinnamon-sugar mixture. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. (Can be frozen for later baking at this time.)
  • Bake 10 to 12 minutes until lightly golden brown.
  • Immediately remove from baking sheet and cool on wire racks.
