Civil War Mashed Potatoes

CIVIL WAR MASHED POTATOES This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Ritchie Estate in Arlington, Texas in 1984.
Ingredients
- 1 quart potatoes shopping list
- 3 tablespoons butter shopping list
- 1/4 cup water shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper shopping list
- 3 tablespoons sweet cream shopping list
How to make it
- Peel and grate fine uncooked potatoes.
- Put water, butter, salt and pepper in frying pan until it becomes hot then stir in potatoes.
- Let them cook slowly so as not to burn and stir often but do not mash.
- Remove from fire and stir in sweet cream.
