Apple Cream Cheese Kuchen

- 1 1/4 tsp dry yeast shopping list
- 2 tbs warm water shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 1/4 cup warm milk shopping list
- 2 tbs butter softened shopping list
- 2 tbs sugar shopping list
- 1 tsp lemon zest shopping list
- 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups flour shopping list
- Topping: shopping list
- 4 oz cream cheese softened shopping list
- 1 tbs sugar shopping list
- 1 lg apple peeled and sliced shopping list
- 2 tbs butter melted shopping list
- powdered sugar shopping list
How to make it
- Disslove yeast in warm water
- Add egg, milk, butter, sugar, lemon peel, salt and 3/4 cup flour
- Beat till smooth
- Stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft ( sticky dough )
- Turn onto floured surface
- with floured hands knead smooth and elastic about 6 to 8 minutes
- Press into a greased 8 inch square pan, building up edges slightly
- For topping:
- combine cream cheese and sugar
- Gently spread over dough
- Arrange on apple slices, brush with butter
- Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled
- Bake in a 350F oven 30 to 40 minutes or top is golden and apples tender
- Note: may also use peaches, plums or apricots instead of apples
- Cool on rack
- Dust with powdered sugar
- Refrigerate leftovers
