Mel Tillis Daddys Spice Cake

Country music hall of famer Mel Tillis own daddy old recipes! Mel said the spice is the beer! Mel also has a cookbook out!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda shopping list
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon shopping list
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar shopping list
- 2 eggs shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg shopping list
- 2 cups sifted cake flour shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice shopping list
- 2 teaspoons baking powder shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves shopping list
- 1 cup beer shopping list
How to make it
- 1. Cream shortening, add sugars gradually, blending thoroughly.
- 2. Add eggs, beat thoroughly.
- 3. Mix and sift dry ingredients. Add to creamed mixture alternately with beer, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
- 4. Turn into greased 8x8x2" pan. Bake in moderate oven, 40-45 minutes. Cool, slice, enjoy!
