- Fried Cereal: Put cold cereal in milk cartons with tops cut off. Press down solid with spoon. When chilled, remove, slice, dredge with flour and fry in butter. shopping list
- Beer: Mix beer with gingerale and serve cold. shopping list
- Coffee: Float a piece of orange peel in each cup of black coffee for good flavor. shopping list
- Custard: Substitute strong coffee for half the milk in making custard. Add grated orange peel and a little maple syrup for additional flavor. Chill and serve with cream. shopping list
How to make it
- Ice cubes: Flavor the water of each ice-cube tray with orange, lime, or mint extract and freeze.
- Almond: Before chilling canned or frozen apricots, add almond flavoring. Serve with a few shredded almonds over the top.
- Pie Filling: is unusual when unsweetened pineapple juice is used in place of the water.
- Minted Nuts: Cook together 1 cup sugar, 1 tbs light corn syrup, 1/2 cup water. 1/8 tsp salt. When this form into a soft ball, remove and add 6 or 8 marshmallows. Stir well until completely melted. Add 1/2 tsp of essence of peppermint and 3 cups of nuts. (walnuts are best) Mix until each of the nuts are well covered. Drop on wax paper until they are cool. Place on serving dish when firm.
- Gherkin Pickles: Place whole, salted pecans inside a small pickled gherkin which has been slit half way down the side. Use as a garnish.
- Walnuts: Add ground walnuts to sausage. Then shape into patties.
- Olives: Whip cream cheese to a fluff with some cream then cover stuffed olives. Roll in grated nuts and serve on picks.
- Orange: Dip rim of glass in orange juice and then in powdered sugar. Fill glass with any beverage.
- Oranges: Cut into thick, unpeeled slices; dip in French Dressing containing garlic, and broil. Stand up against a rib or crown roast.
- Biscuit Dough: Use orange juice and grated peel instead of milk in biscuit dough recipes.
- Sandwich FIlling: Peanut butter, chopped celery, shredded carrot, and mayonnaise.
- Bacon: Toast bread on one side. Spread with peanut butter on the other. Top with bits of cooked bacon and run under the broiler.
- Apricots: Sweeten apricot halves with crushed peppermint drops. Let stand in refrigerator an hour.
- Dressing: Fruit French: In a jar combine 1/2 tsp salt, 2 tsp sugar, 1/4 tsp paprika, 3 tbs vinegar, 1/2 cup olive oil, 3 tbs pineapple juice, and 3 tbs orange juice. Shake thoroughly.
