The Slaughter Pickled Peaches and Pears

I was looking through "Encyclopedia for the Home", a book that has been passed down from my mom's great grandmother. (Copyright 1902). This was tucked in between the pages of the Condiments section, written on brown paper. Read more The date says 8/15/5? As I read it I realized that this is the recipe that Grandma gave me when I made my first canned peaches. Young, not quite ripe peaches work very well with this. See less
Ingredients
- 4 qts peaches or pears shopping list
- 4 cups white sugar shopping list
- 2 cups vinegar shopping list
- 1/2 oz. stick of cinnamon shopping list
- 1/4 oz whole cloves shopping list
How to make it
- Peal peaches.
- Boil sugar, etc. for about 20 minutes.
- Place fruit in syrup about 20 minutes or until tender.
- Put in jars cover with syrup and seal.
